Gurren Lagann (and general Gainax/Trigger) thread Anonymous No. 1411 [Reply] [Last]
I just want a thread where I can wax on about my favorite anime is all. Here's downloads to the best fansubs for ep 1-19 (group died at 19), and my edited fansubs for 20-27 for the few people who somehow haven't watched the anime yet. https://www.mediafire.com/file/q02b6vjcvi9ovkz/Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann_ORDER.rar/file https://www.mediafire.com/file/fpgmj9mxtsupnm4/TTGL_hardsubs_20-27.rar/file I'm less interested in other Trigger/Gainax stuff (though I still like some of them a lot like Eva and KLK. and intend to watch Gunbuster soon and maybe Cutie Honey), but if people wanna talk about the other works here, that's fine too.

Diebuster's finale was so good. I didn't like Gurren Lagann's though
Just watched BNA: Brand New Animal Spoilers ahead, I'm not gonna bother spoiling the text because I'm fucking lazy. It was overall disappointing. >Plot/characters/concept Honestly a rushed mess that magically resolves itself, wasted potential. The amount of factions they introduced halfway through intrigued me but they took care of it in such a lame and dumb way tbh, and Nazuna never had a redemption, she just magically decided that her manipulating an entire city on behalf of evil organizations to essentially kill/neutralize them all was bad, on top of what she did to Michiru, and suddenly being nice to one child makes her a star again. This was just a load of bullshit, the happy ending didn't feel properly earned and the characters development was passive or just randomly and arbitrarily happened, it's infuriating. Michiru and Oogami were the only ones who went through any character development, and Michiru kept having a lot of bad decisions. Also, consider that Alan suffered minimal consequences, all he did was fucking resign as head of the company, nothing was mentioned about prison or any kind of punishment outside of that, it's repugnant. The mayor was a naive clod, and the police chief was a literal dog (as in an unthinking tool of his masters) until he randomly decides to grow a fucking spine. This anime honestly needed like 6-12 more episodes to cook, Oogami's betrayal could really have been interesting, and Nazuna could have been properly redeemed, and these other characters could've had important realizations. Its just fucking bullshit, I'm irritated because this genuinely had potential, but they clearly just threw everything into a blender at the end and served a sludge that marks off whatever nutritional checkmark they could find. Also, they didn't have Michiru play one fucking game of basketball, instead they had her play a fucking baseball game, I feel cheated. >Audio/Visuals In terms of animation and art, I didnt care for it at all. The character designs were ugly and disappointing and nobody really appealed to me. I also hated Trigger's laziness with regards to shading and coloring. Flat colors and a limited palette is not a style 99% of the time, it just looked like shit, on top of bad lineart. This feels like a frequent Trigger problem, I miss the Gainax days when they were forced to put effort into aesthetics. Music was forgettable. Voice acting was fine. The comedy was somewhat tedious, and things felt a bit too predictable overall, which is a waste.

Best onee-shota in anime? Anonymous Id: 13ca8d No. 71105 [Reply]
Besides sunohara what other anime is good?
(2.09 MB 1280x720)Lucoa sleep.webm
>>71105 I've seen people endorsing Megami-Ryou but I didn't like it as much as Sunohara. Kanokon is a classic. Maid Dragon's decent for onee-shota although we're still a ways away from any reciprocation between Shouta and Lucoa. Although I guess Lucoa's more of an older woman than an onee-chan. Honestly most of the onee-shota stuff I know is in manga, can't think of too many anime where the onee-shota is front and center or given focus rather than a one-off thing.

Have you read Shigurui?

>>66670 Asking as someone who didn't read the novel, were there plot points in Toad's fight that would have seemed strange if the Mangaka simply placed it prior to Seigen and Gennosuke's fight? I reread Shigurui after finding this thread, and it seems to me like the story has problems with introducing plot points just to have them go nowhere. The mangaka could have easily have left out the bits with the Toad AND the hermaphrodite sister of the sword twins out from his adaptation, and it wouldn't have affected the ending of the manga. Another example is the giant monk being intoduced towards the end, showing us irrelevant stuff about Seigen's background, like how he was trained in acupuncture and did nothing with his knowledge other than break Geno's fingers 60 chapters earlier. Plus, because we as readers weren't already convinced of Gennosuke's committment to his goal, giant monk gets to job to Geno, for us to then see Geno to fall apart like a little bitch in his next fight because he was ordered to do something no less brutal than the time he collected some faces. Mie's motivations because her actions and behaviors in the story from the moment Seigen was ambushed to the final chapter make no sense to me, but I chalk that up to my inability to think like a woman. If Miura called this the rival to Berserk he must have meant the art quality because story-wise it's all over the place.
>>67716 >hermaphrodite sister I think she just has a really big clit. She should've fucked the brave sparring partner's ass from with it instead of ripping his face off of his head.
(120.15 KB 897x650)Shigurui-1.jpg
>>67716 Admittedly one issue with the manga is definitely how it introduces things like characters from the novels, and their plot points, only to leave them. I've heard it's cause Yamaguchi became incredibly depressed with Seigen and Fujiki's story and ended it with them, now he mostly makes upbeat manga ever since. Mie was Kogan's daughter, but Kogan was a slave to the feudal society. He'd have her raped to make kids in a heartbeat. She didn't like that, so her comittment to Seigen is pretty much born out of Seigen's initial defial of the Feudal system. He rose really high basically with just tricks & merit, and maybe she thought he was her ticket out of things. It's a sad ending because even if Seigen won, he'd probably be forced to decapitate Fujiki anyway. In the manga, this fits the anti-feudal theme to a T, but the novel is a bit more... Generic? I've heard that she loved Seigen in that one. I think the manga's take is superior. The ending with Fujiki puking isn't so much him being disgusted by cutting off the head. Fujiki is cowering before the lord, as much a slave as he was before he began seeking revenge of Seigen. I can't recall the entire sequence of events but if I recall, the manga pitches them both as more understanding of each other thanks to the roles they've taken post-revenge match. In essence, Seigen sought himself status and became just another Tadanaga goon, while Fujiki became someone pursuing justice in whatever avenue he could, and he wanted to make Mie happy most of all, like Seigen after his expulsion almost. That's why he pukes, he'd gone a long way from just heeding his master's beck and call, but at the end of the day he couldn't disobey Tadanaga. The decap is more of a symbolic tarnishing of all that Fujiki built himself up to. Mie kills herself for this reason, having no way out of this hell. Refer to pic related. All in all, I could definitely see why a few authors like Togashi and Miura held/hold it in high regards despite its faults, Togashi seemingly taking inspiration from it for his Chrollo fight but also possibly for the Chimera Ant arc. It hits reslly hard when it needs to and the manga is seemingly always serious which many works can't claim to be, even if it becomes almost comedic at times precisely due to that.

Love the new ED. Direction and lighting were on point, and the various stages were all beautiful. They even went out of their way to have the petals at the end ripple away from the girls feet as they danced in the puddles. Incredible. It'd be extremely difficult to top Trio Dreams and as expected this doesn't do it, but it's great

Holy shit, this site works again. I swear it's been weeks trying to load anything. Anyway we've missed Saru's birthday, and I guess he said "don't celebrate" because instead they announced another fucking stage production. This one has Nakagami cast in it but no Torahime, so presumably they're moving onto adapting scenes from the fugitive half of S2. I really hope they make room for the laboratory scene and Fumiya's betrayal. I need to hear stage Fumiya try his best to cackle evilly, I don't think he has it in him, his voice is kind of pathetic. They're going to be doing so many costume changes if his break is adapted, but thankfully keeping Torahime for a future stage means they don't have to do both. I'm a little excited to see how RBB Fumiya will behave around the others, since his saint mode was so distant and prim (and it had shoes). Gang AU is fairly popular so artists will get stirred up no matter how he is. They threw us another song with only a week's notice, reusing assets, and slapping AI backgrounds on several parts. I guess this is padding out the compilation album with literally anything. Its saving grace are the deliberate lingering camera shots on the tiny towel skirts flipping about, and that a well known EDM animator did Ohse's section. Also La Bamba is, without fail, catchy. There's some conspiracy theories going around that Pizza Party's lyrics actually explained that we have to wait until winter for S3. People trying to match the phrases in the nonsense verse to the songs we've had since and saying we're getting a song for spring, summer, and autumn. I did feel like the new song saying normalfags can stop worrying is telling us to stop commenting where's S3. I'm happier now there's more stage to look forward to because it always adds to the characterisations and it's great to see the break costumes from new angles, but I'm still mad at the continued onslaught of pointless trivia songs and plushies. There's just plain ugly merch flooding the market, and the few decent ones are prizes and collab popups only. The Sabira cafe opened, and it's nice that they got to use new ebimo art for everything, but it's still only the two sets of images reprinted on tons of things - and from the photos it seems some characters got shafted at the photo point because TERRA had to be so goddamn wide and take up most of his side of the display. You already got the best vocals, stop stealing all of the spotlight! >>67062 Oh no, I wasn't trying to accuse you of anything, I was just disappointed because I've had people bring up idol series a few times, and as far as I'm aware Charisma isn't an idol series nor does it look much like one. When I think of an idol series it usually involves teenagers in the music industry, performing on stage and managing their stardom. Charisma is a gag comedy with bullshit science fiction elements, about a group of social outcasts who end up on the run from government agents because, by living in close proximity, they uncover a power that "could solve the global energy crisis." Disliking musicals is pretty normal, which is why I was trying to emphasise that the music is less frequent than in regular non-musical anime. That was stupid of me, it's not like I was going anywhere with that and obviously parts of the plot are conveyed in the lyrics. I'm sorry if you felt the information I was giving was about you, that wasn't my intention. I was frustrated with the threads from 2021, but I didn't think that would sound like I was including you (evidently, you weren't there or didn't post at the time). Just that it served as an explanation for why discussion has been limited in the years since the series began, since people wrote it off early. Homothreads don't pay a great deal of attention to what's active in Japanese fandom, and Charisma is a very hard sell despite its accessibility. Japanese comedy is divisive, and I understand the west is put off by the characters being adults. It's just doomed to fail beyond Asia. >>67202 It's gonna take a long ass time for me to get used to it, that's for sure. I half want his charisma to be "mob" because it's part of his appeal, but at the least they could keep his eyes hidden save for a few rare sprites.
