If you took a great english author and taught him everything about a foreign masterpiece, he could probably cobble together a better english language novel than the direct translation. Hacks with no literary talent and no concern for anything besides their ideology echoing an argument doesn't necessarily make it wrong. The problem isn't that it's impossible to improve a work, especially one written in a different language and translated literally. Modern translators just have neither the ability or desire to do so.
