How are Chinese words different from wago? Are they still phonetically distinct?

Very dumb question about the り+する conjugation, I understand its a way to connect actions, but I far more often than not see it used for just one single action. Does it add some nuance over just saying [action] in a basic, non connective form? Thanks.

i'm currently playing games in japanese. it sort of works because i can pause the emulator at any time to look up words (there's a lot of words i have to look up). i'm on my 5th game i think i've been thinking about watching anime with japanese subs. like videogames, i'd start with stuff i played previously, like 10+ years ago in english. so for example, i'm thinking of watching gundam 00 with japanese subtitles. my question is, does anyone here watch anime with jp subtitles? when you started, did you just watch it and not understand a lot of it? i'm thinking of opening the subtitles file on a text editor and looking up words on the dictionary before watching the episodes. it's gonna take a lot more than just watching and kinda ruin any surprises. am i stupid? what's other people's advice on this

>>63207 its not silent at all times I believe what you are referring to is the devoicing that occurs when japanese speakers are saying it in front of a devoiced consonant. I'd suggest just looking up japanese vowel devoicing guide but basically say the vowel and don't vibrate your vocal cords (put your hand on your throat. Not much is really happening outside of you moving your mouth but it may be necessary to play along with the charade for things like timing and pitch idk.

>>63027 >does anyone here watch anime with jp subtitles? yes, it's how you learn jap > when you started, did you just watch it and not understand a lot of it? yes and the unfortunate truth is you'll be pausing and looking up words every other sentence for a while. you can easily create anki cards with accompanying clips from your anime with some software (in the usual guides) > i'm thinking of opening the subtitles file on a text editor and looking up words on the dictionary before watching the episodes. there is a site that makes anki decks full of words from your chosen anime, manga, vn, etc. that you can study before watching ( https://jpdb.io , although it doesn't look like they've added Gundam 00 yet). alternatively you can put off watching things for a while and just read very intensively for a few months to boost your vocab. that's a faster way of absorbing the language and might be the sensible thing to do honestly

So I had a grammar deck that I used only for reading the grammar sentences and always clicking Easy (4) (unless there was an actually hard grammar rule which I would then move to my main mining deck). I also had FSRS enabled. And it turns out that FSRS parameters are shared across ALL decks. Which means that because I was only clicking Easy on all cards in that deck, FSRS scheduler thought that I had a superhuman memory which was fucking up review intervals in other decks. Today I reset the FSRS parameters and also added the grammar deck into FSRS ignore list so let's see how it goes now.
