well well well, a post with arguments beyond "gook shit GTFO". Thanks
>Compelling storytelling is not about "hype moments" and "aura"
>Solo Leveling writing is very shallow and cartoonish.
>The MC is a nobody, then through a stroke of luck he abruptly transforms, behavior, voice, even appearance into "le badass"
The chosen one is a common trope for shonen and other culture's hero stories. But yeah the radical change of appearance is uncomfortable, but shielded by suspension of disbelief most opf the time. But even the MC and other early acquaintances acknowledges that he changed so much, but then it gets never mentioned again.
>Then everybody regardless of age, sex and personal circumstances rushes to suck his dick.
When MC starts doing IMPOSSIBRU things, yeah some people come to him, this is also a common trope
>That might be the most debilitating flaw, the MC strikes me as more silly than "cool"
The MC development mainly relies in his combat abilities, but in many aspects he remains the same, he is still a good kid, devoted to his family and a complete dork with women. He remains humble with his friends but the cruel events of the first double dungeon makes him relentless toward his enemies.
>Character arcs? Nope
yep, thats a flaw, but considering the deluge of shit quality fillers of other series, I cant decide if this is a flaw or a win.
>Maybe create some suspense by at least trying to pretend that he can't low diff nearly every fight? like, idk, make him lose limbs with some tension about whether or not he can heal it?
I dont get it, but are you suggesting that he got a "easy time"? He almost get ded several times on breakneck speed fights, its not that he can ask for a pause to pop a health posion
>Maybe establish some sidekick characters to later kill off for some kind of stakes? No.
This is SOLO leveling,
>It does not get better.
>[redacted]
Hmm I think that part got somewhat resolved, but yeah SL lack many many narrative tools
>In this light fantastic visuals and ost make it only more grating. how the hell did someone decide that this story deserves it?
I concede that maybe, because of the deluge of shit stories my anime bar has lowered, and Yeah SL has many narrative problems, characters and themes presented, with some real potential, that got forgotten easily.
Other problem, so to speak is that Jin Woo is more humane than your average shonen gary stu but not fleshed out enough for readers / watchers that want more besides frantic fights. I member how hordes of children called MC a pussy for crying when he cures his mom, but that really a moment that defines crystal clear who MC is as a person, someone with good family, firm principles that got resposabilities imposed on him way early, before he had time to properly develop and mature as a person, that explains how, while be proficient at dealing with some conflicts, he is a complete dork and / or oblivious to other personal relationship issues.
Thats why I say that the story is not shakespear, but is good by anime standards, yeah it has tons of issues that show that the author and /or the adaptation are makings of a writer that was long ways to go to improve his writing capabilities.
