What is wrong with westoids and why do they keep pushing anti-intellectualism and their refusal to read? Have any of you ever noticed how westoids tend to write off Japanese lit as nothing but trashy fan fiction? It's almost like they think just reading a summary or watching a YouTube video is good enough to understand the whole story, without even bothering to crack open an actual book. I mean, can you imagine someone doing the same thing with Western classics? Yeah, they do that too. It's getting worse over time too. Around the early 2000s people were desperate to scramble to learn japanese because the fan translations for stuff like shana or DaL were too slow. Around the 2010s while the normalfag flood had begun, you still got people willing to learn japanese to read the raws. Now after covid you're hard pressed anyone that reads the source material, hell you are hard pressed to find people that actually watch anime at x1 playback speed and not through tiktok videos and manga leak threads. What the fuck went so wrong with the anime community normalfags?
>>73353 Just got unlucky. Gotta read some fun stuff that isn't considered trash by most. If it doesn't click with you then try something else instead.
>>73353 Alot of the western canon are elitists, and elitists tend to focus on things that are difficult to do instead of things that are useful As of such, the prose and linguistic tricks are actually the main attraction of their writing, instead of the plot or characters There exist many good books but they aren't championed by nerds
(Some) LNs are like scripts for a serie, but they can be longer and the writer can take advantage of a lot of "artistic infrastructure" (drawings, music, CD drama, anime), meanwhile in the west those script ended like a play (worst adaptation) and later a film (and usually never released as book). Worldbuilding in Japanese books tends to have references to other series, games, or reinterpretations, usually without political or moral context (not absent tho). Meanwhile way too often western lit relies too much on real life (essentially refusing to build a world), it's plagued by moral or political connotations that will age badly if you don't like the message (any work of Alexandre Dumas). One contributes to a ecosystem, the other is parasitic, freeloading and tends to be underdeveloped. Both can have mediocre plots written as filler of a self-fulfillment fantasy. One tries to be serious but ends meaningless, the other avoids reality but can end like a bad parody.
>>73543 >(Some) LNs are like scripts for a serie Is this one of those memes westoids parroted so much that it's now taken as truth or something? Because it's very rare to see a LN that isn't 80% narration/MC's internal monologue. Or do people say it due to dialogue being formatted in lines and in japanese letting the reader know who says what off role language alone (which of course is never translated properly) instead of the westoid format of having 80% of the book be spammings of "he said/she replied/mentioned x-tly/expressed while x-ing/trailed off while x-ing"? >Worldbuilding in Japanese books tends to have references to other series, games, or reinterpretations, usually without political or moral context (not absent tho). Is this just trying to pass off "literally all JP fiction is dragon quest clones" as an intellectual talking point? >self-fulfillment fantasy We are years past the point this became a meaningless buzzword to virtue signal "I'm an intellectual with high media literacy, please upvote me and tell me I'm such a good and smart goyim".
Stop shilling on 4/a/ you fucking retard.
>>73574 LMAO, even. There's a fucking mountain of shows being put out where they call their abilities "cheat powers" in the shows themselves. They're mostly boring as mud. I don't want to see someone else just cheating their way through an extremely generic world. That's only fun it's you the consumer doing it in a videogame, and after you've experienced the game without cheats, and the world isn't generic, or else if you're some kinda self-insert faggot. I did make an exception for the the book loli anime because I have weakness for the particular power fantasy of bringing technology to a world without it, but it ultimately left me feeling hollow inside. Also the MC has fucking super high magic because "muh power fantasy", as if stealing dozens of inventions of the modern world and bringing them to medieval fantasy land doesn't make a character broken enough. >>73596 Nice reply to no one in particular, you fucking 4netorare. Fuck off back to your Indian shithole and get back to licking Pajeet's anus.
>>73595 >>73598 I legit have no idea what re you even trying to argue here with these examples. It sounds like you're just having a spergout and vomiting whatever you heard ecelebs say. >Nice reply to no one in particular, you fucking 4netorare. Fuck off back to your Indian shithole and get back to licking Pajeet's anus. Based tho.
>>73596 Why? Most people that end up knowing about this place are happier here, myself included.
>>73602 >I legit have no idea what re you even trying to argue here I've stated it pretty damn clearly, but I'll say it again. Wish fulfillment power fantasies are inherently boring, and it's entirely justified for people to mock the flood of this garbage in the industry. Calling it a meaningless buzzword just sounds like you taking personal offense because you enjoy this low quality trash. I actually watched the vending machine one, because I thought it might be novel. But is was the same as the rest of them.
>>73632 >Bakarina that low
>>73596 Who's doing it and how is he doing it?
>>73632 >Triples down on buzzwords pretending it's an argument. >Shills trash for foids and parody kuso. I still don't get it.
>>73702 >shills You're illiterate.

>>73595 >>73598 >>73543 >(Some) LNs are like scripts for a series Web novels. It's the web novels. They are web novels because the authors did understand what they wrote was not enough to be sold as a novel. But then another party shows up and offers to turn their drafts into novels and TV anime. The draft remains a draft, gets polished into a nice polished draft, gets thoroughly censored, and then what is left is a shiny draft with missing details because those details will not get aired or published by this third party. Left alone the web novel's writer would have to come up with a version he had confidence in putting money into publishing and selling. Someone approaching you for your draft throws out the requirement for confidence. It grants a fake assurance that the draft is already complete.
>>73574 >Or do people say it due to dialogue being formatted in lines and in japanese letting the reader know who says what off role language alone (which of course is never translated properly) instead of the westoid format of having 80% of the book be spammings of "he said/she replied/mentioned x-tly/expressed while x-ing/trailed off while x-ing"? Pretty much. It's actually absurd how much you can trim even fat westoid books just by removing all this literal filler.

>>73735 Still better writing than anything westoid.
>>73741 Perhaps, but you don't see the books you're referencing getting massive multi-media franchises for their poor efforts.
>>73744 I would consider bear sex getting the highest possible literature award in an entire western country to be enough of a badge of shame for westoids.
>>73744 >Even "2 years worth of semen" is leagues above anything western that it can get a full multimedia franchise. Grim. Why are westoids so shit at making media?
(5.18 MB 640x360 sao abridged forging.webm)

>>73745 >Caring about meaningless insular awards and not actual success and popularity Call me back when bear sex book is part of a franchise enjoyed by millions of normalfags like power fantasy #423 is. Maybe if you brought up Baldur's Gate 3 first, you'd have had a point. >>73746 Da joos. :^) But yes, things are grim all around, but at least Jap toons are colorful and generally appealing most of the time, which is a lot more than can be said of most of any large western works in last couple decades.
>>73749 >Call me back when bear sex book is part of a franchise enjoyed by millions of normalfags like power fantasy #423 is Does a sparkly vampire and a literal werewolf with a knot dick count? >Maybe if you brought up Baldur's Gate 3 first, you'd have had a point. If anything the original mass effect trilogy is a better example, the game is a glorified dating sim (with half of the love interests being furries of the lizard kind) with a mediocre TPS glued to it.
>>73750 >Does a sparkly vampire and a literal werewolf with a knot dick count? It's a decent counterpart, if you accept the caveat that it's only for girls.
>>73734 I will say skipping from web novel straight to anime is the best possible outcome because the most heavy handed trimming happens during conversion to LN. There was actually a director who tried to adapt part of web novel for Kage no Jitsuryokusha but as soon as committee noticed they had it scrapped, replaced with a showcase episode of the Kage girls, and turned the leftover space into a tie in for a movie. This piece the director was going to use from the web novel had been removed from the light novel. In another example Kumo desu ga Nani ka? the web novel is suffering and gloom while the light novel is happy go lucky. The anime follows the LN so kumoko is a happy kawaii spider. The destute outer personality is gone, and with it all the fun of her encounters with humans. The web novels themselves are not bad usually.
>>73749 >Call me back when bear sex book is part of a franchise enjoyed by millions of normalfags like power fantasy #423 is <First pic has an underage gangbang <Second pic is about a car wanting to fuck it's owner <Third pic spends an unordinate amount of time dedicated to characters taking a shit <Vid explains itself <Fourth pic is an absolute riot with all the degeneracy on display from beginning to end
>>73756 >because the most heavy handed trimming happens during conversion to LN. I don't even think you yourself believe this. Forget the "name 3" meme, I don't even think there's any examples aside from rebuild world and technically overlord, both of which were due to their respective authors wanting wider appeal.
>>73756 >There was actually a director who tried to adapt part of web novel for Kage no Jitsuryokusha but as soon as committee noticed they had it scrapped, replaced with a showcase episode of the Kage girls, and turned the leftover space into a tie in for a movie. This piece the director was going to use from the web novel had been removed from the light novel. FYI that was from the OG WN before even the taepodong version, most of that content is on the gacha by now tho. >In another example Kumo desu ga Nani ka? the web novel is suffering and gloom while the light novel is happy go lucky. FYI the WN and LN are basically 1:1 with relatively minor grammar fixes and some slight reordering of minor scenes, it doesn't deviate until about the last 25% of it. >The anime follows the manga so kumoko is a happy kawaii spider. Fixed. Unless the LN official LN is also an abridged parody like kage's. >The destute outer personality is gone, and with it all the fun of her encounters with humans. Blame it on both manga and anime adaptations removing that sort of thing. You should already be aware of this given you mentioned kage and how much it cut from cid's inner lunacy.
>>73760 ><Third pic spends an unordinate amount of time dedicated to characters taking a shit Is it at least wanking over plumbing or just a scat fetish?
>>73761 >>73762 What I mean by trimming is in the way of hedge trimming. All the isekai hedges tidied down to their proper shape just lose the appeal they struck by their improper shapes. Keeping what happens 1:1 is bad when how it happens is not 1:1; whenever how it happens changes it is almost without fail a form of censoring or chasing the illusion of a wider audience. Shearing away at the unique shape to better fit the proper is not going to make anyone like it more and if they like it less they are going to mention it less, think of it less, and so forth. You could say it's a change of mood but it affects far more than just mood. Details are the insignificant things that set apart Isekai #1 and Isekai #4890 even down to having Maou/Yuusha a harem a slave a cheato skill a reinarnation an apologizing god and status screen. The important thing is the anime or manga adaptation will adapt the light novel as the base and not the web novel. The light novel is already missing something important. Mentioning the director trying to pick up an arc absent from the light novel was to illustrate someone willing to use it still not being allowed to use the web novel.
>>73777 >Pointless arguing of hallucinated series without naming specific examples. It really feels like I'm on 4chan!

>>72943 >Have any of you ever noticed how westoids tend to write off Japanese lit as nothing but trashy fan fiction? And that is a good thing. Let them wallow in their ignorance, they're basically gatekeeping themselves and we should incourage them to do so, let's not throw pearls to the swines.
