This was way different that what i expected it to be going in. A quick glance before reading made it seem like it was going to be some gacha game plot. It was pretty good, i greatly enjoyed it, although i will say the overall point of the manga escaped me. Maybe it's because it tackled more than one things at once on top of what i assume to be heavy Buddhist themes. I think the only thing i can safely land on is finding purpose in life/community with correlations to happiness and belonging.

>>45486 It ended a bit sooner then it should have, still one of my all time favorites. Hopefully the rest of it gets adapted.
>>45714 You wanted more of the manga you mean? I felt the length was pretty optimal. The anime desperately needs a S2 because it ends just when things get interesting.
>>45749 i want season 2 to end with a pan shot of moon city
Phos did nothing wrong btw
How was the anime CGI received when it aired? They did a good job in my opinion. I expect tracking so many different shapes in classic animation would be too much. Albeit not needing the characters to feel very human smoothed a lot of the challenge.

>>45486 >the overall point of the manga escaped me i relate, the problem with abstract narrative like that is it leaves you unsure how much concrete meaning it had to begin with, but I rather like it actually. In the first place, this is a primarily visual medium, so in a way it's like searching for explicit meaning in a painting. That said, my vague impressions went something like this: Melancholy soaked meditation on just the bigger picture of being alive. Lack of change is death, but total change is also death. When Theseus' ship changes every part, what is left? Theseus himself.

Cinnabar worst gem
>>45809 A lot of people liked it. I saw many post saying it was the first good 3DCG anime. But many people also disliked it especially those that had already seen the promotional video released a few years before and felt the CG didn't do the manga justice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYWOG9q2HpI

>>45486 This is one of my favourite character designs ever. Truly awesome. I can't find any art, even in the manga, which I feel does it justice.
>>46010 Cinnabar was the only good Gem.
>>45972 Toying with Death and Change as themes was definitely very apparent, good catch. Makes me think of it in the context of "how much change is justified for happiness" or something close to that. I guess what i meant when mentioning that the point escaped me had more to do with how i didn't feel like an argument and counterargument was ultimately made. I'm used to storytelling where we are presented with some questions and the work subtly makes you think about arguments for or against those questions. While i enjoyed the events of the manga and the suspense at which they happened i guess i didn't find myself asking many questions outside of the plot mysteries. But hey that may have been me. I can certainly see people relating a lot more with themes like isolation, trying to fit in and thus getting more out of it. >>46063 Interesting. I usually hate CGI so i felt like they did something right for me to like it. It seemed like the choice had some purpose behind it beyond making it easier on themselves. >>46098 I'm a sucker for faceless humanoid designs too (and skull face adjacent designs but that's another thing). This felt very familiar in a way but i like how it manages to be both imposing or kinda cute when it needs to.
>>45972 >>46164 The arguments and counter-arguments are pretty implicit to conventional religious debates about martyrdom and scapegoating, that this story basically falls in line with. Phos was a constructed martyr, both Kongo and Achmea worked together, indirectly, to give him enough rope to hang himself and walk himself down the Via Dolorosa towards becoming a Buddha. Kongo knew what Phos was doing, he knew that Achmea had a scheme specifically focused around Phos, and he let it happen. He even facilitated it with his deliberate vagaries that would drive Phos to keep pushing. Achmea obviously had a millennia long grooming plan in the works, to turn Phos into a Buddha to finally 'die'. Both 'men' (in so far as you can consider a robot and a ghost men) are obviously despicable in a lot of ways. But they're also making the world's most important omelette, and breaking eggs to make the divine savior is probably expected. They're trying to save themselves from eternal torment of not being able to die. The question of the Moonies potentially achieving Nirvana under their own meditative power remains in the air, unanswered. Could they have done so if they actually tried rather than being aimless hedonists? Without that being answered, their moral position is uncertain. Are they bad and morally grey, with sympathetic selfishness, or are they evil and stupid and got everything they could have wanted for cheap?
>>45486 I strongly disliked the manga so I did not watch it. I feel that it didn't really have any clear message but people just assumed it was deep. The artwork was extremely bad and the gems kind of had that braindead yuri vibe going where everyone was very uninteresting and one dimensional. Sometimes the combination of the poor artwork and badly written gems made it difficult to tell characters apart.

I love this manga Not often does a story make me hate almost every character
phosu
>>46330 I can see that. What i also remember being argued a lot by the end was the position that humans were horrible. But the work also argues against it in the final prayer. Vengeance was said to be the most human emotion but Phos forgave everything.
>>45486 hiatuses killed my ethusiasm
>>47775 It took me many years to accept that i would only ever consume long running media after their end. It does get lonely but I've experienced so many series deflating it just isn't worth it for me now.
>>45714 And then beastars ended an ignoble death because nepobaby furry author with crazy SJW feminist dad who got her published decided she wanted to write a totally different furfag manga- sugoi! Crazy how people always tell you not to be jealous or hate nepobabies, but they're always incompetent bumblefucks who ruin good things for other people with their worthlessness and falling upwards from daddy's money.
>>47775 This also pissed me off, but the hiatuses did one good thing which is that the chapter where all the moon gems are seen in the distance of the setting sun coming back was literally in December 2019, which was kino as fuck since everything went to shit in 2020. But after a while it was clear she was just milking tankoban sales and being lazy by keeping the manga on life support with arcs no one asked for, like her self-insert on the moon.
>>47750 Phos should have condemned them all to real hell instead of just pseudo moon hell. I mean if buddhism is real then buddhist hungry ghost hell is real. That's another thing that annoyed me- she set it up so Phos was going to get revenge and then bitched out because she didn't want to shit on her self-insert for being a whore.
>>46342 Didn't understand the story award.
>>45486 We failed to protect this smile...
>>48452 Anon, it's right here >>45972 We never lost it
>>48463 >You good phos? >No
>>48463 >>48463 Something about seeing her fade pains me. Part of me knows it's better for her but another says not like this.
She made a lot of weird writing decisions and dropped plot points to reach that 108 number at the end.
