Am I dumb for thinking the storytelling in this is pretty bad? I'm only a few chapters into it, but compared to other manga I've read (which is only a few, I'm not a big manga reader), the storytelling feels so stilted. I think it's mostly the paneling. It's not very fluid and things just seem to happen sometimes, like it's missing some kind of transition scene and there's barely any stage setting. Characters will vaguely reference what is happening and why. The real meat of the story and what I've enjoyed the most is Shiro's annotations in the margins, they give great insight into his inspirations and the creative decisions he's made in his worldbuilding and writing, and he even talks about things like decentralized networks, which is way ahead of its time for 1989. Still, is it one of those things that makes more sense upon a second read, or is it pretty agreed upon that the storytelling isn't the manga's strong suit?
