Mangadex hit by a big DMCA Anonymous 05/15/2025 (Thu) 08:50:18 Id: 5664db No. 67467
YOU WILL READ NOTHING AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY https://forums.mangadex.org/threads/site-update-14th-of-may-2025.2274813/ Here's the incomplete list of titles that had their chapters taken down due to a copyright strike: https://pastebin.com/raw/P9K9Cnnj So where will I read my mango next?? I don't want to learn japanese and read raws...

>>67467 Manga aggregator sotes are a dime a dozen, but it'll be interesting to see if any new scanlations find their way there. I hope scanlations will keep showing up on 4/a/ and r/manga, but we'll see. Worst case scenario is scanlation crews hole up in their discords and only release stuff through them.
>>67467 Should've learnt Japanese years ago. None of my uploads got DMCA'd at least.
>>67467 Imagine still using this shit in 2025.
This is why it's important to have alternatives lined up. For a lot of the removed series I still have two towers remaining in the form of Mangahere and Mangakatana.
>>67478 Aren't both just aggregators?
(178.39 KB 600x380 erika.png)

>>67467 lol, yabai
I have found that raws are harder to find if the series isn't somewhat popular. You usually would have to buy it or pray that someone has uploaded it. It's even worse if the series isn't completed yet.
Aww shit here we go again.

>>67483 same and I'm poor. I'm fluent in reading japanese, but so little benefit... oh and 8chan is unusable now apparently with an even worse captcha than 4chan. sheesh.
>>67483 In many cases what exists is lq tankoubon scans from 2010 when decent quality e-books also exist.
>>67519 The only change is the Proof of Work wait time to get a new bypass, once a day at worst.
>>67467 I know quite a lot of those titles, fuck. Do we know yet who's to blame? >Chobits >Dusk Maiden of Amnesia >Frieren >Gantz >Kaiji >Monster >U12 (Under 12) Those are quite a variety of titles. Fresh, old, action, ecchi. How are they even related? Is it some licensor who thought he could up the income if he nuked some titles on mangadex?
>>67522 Shueishia, Kadokawa, etc. You can blame Nintendo too. inb4 w-why nintendo? YES
(106.37 KB 900x815 N word.webp)

>>67522 The top 6 are popular entry level anime. Excluding Frieren those have been on rec lists for years. Maybe it's as you say.
>>67522 Nah, seems to be a pretty big hit across the board. Even some of the super niche no-name ecchi series I've been following got hit. Fucking Renjoh Desperado got hit, and that's a niche random action ecchi that ended like half a decade ago.

>>67467 I was thinking about buying some RAW manga and books to support the original authors, but right now these companies made it clear they don't want my money, especially since most of these don't even have official ENG releases and those that do pale in comparison to the scanlations we had before. Any other site out there that hosts fan-translations like MD and doesn't use the official TL? My two other sites primarily use the official TL when available.
(112.73 KB 446x302 panda killers.png)

>>67522 I wonder if (((they))) had to do anything with it.
(304.17 KB 400x3000 daiz.png)

>>67540 Of course.
(16.04 KB 217x239 1539504898913.jpg)

>>67536 >I was thinking about buying some RAW manga and books to support the original authors, but >most of these don't even have official ENG releases
>>67540 yes of course
(28.00 KB 759x210 pirbg2.png)

>>67542 Neither of those statements contradict each other. I planned on buying Manga in its original Japanese form to circumvent localizers getting that money and a large amount of the manga that got DMCA'd by whatever company filed it don't even have official ENG releases available so you can't go to your local bookstore and buy a copy, showing that they just flat-out don't want you to read the niche stuff, despite how they wouldn't get money from English regions anyway. This move makes no sense outside of the popular series like Frieren, Bleach, and JJK, and all it does is tell me that the company who did this hates not just English readers, but all the foreigners that can't buy those series and I don't want to reward such behavior.
>>67483 >>67519 Have you guys tried searching "manga zip" or "manga dl" or "dl raw" or something on Yandex? Werks 4 me
>>67467 Worst comes to worst we just start passing usb sticks Paying is never the option
>>67467 They've been deleting stuff for years anyway, fuck them.
>>67467 Is there a backup or a fallback site for these titles?
>>67557 Yandes is kiked as hell as of late, you can't even search porn anymore even with the filter off.
>MD announces they'll be purging every group paywalling their releases >suddenly the entire site gets DMCA'd Reminder, you don't hate SEA subhumans enough.

How compromised are my Mihon manga?
>>67627 I have done cursory research on this matter, seems to me that the majority of the manga getting deleted is already rehosted on other platforms. The only issue is that if you care about a specific scanlator chances are you'll have to trial and error your way into different extensions. I was able to get the fan translation of Dress Up Darling on an off site and the official manga release on another one. Shitty times ahead. Better get used to disnetorares.
>>67584 Yeah I thought the timing was really suspicious, surprised nobody else said anything about it no matter where I looked. Wouldn't be surprised if one of those groups snitched
Qvikrvnd0wn on "Kakao", pls.
>>67519 >picrel What's that?
>>67578 Okay but you can reach websites like the ones I mentioned in pretty sure
>>67636 Pretty much gook blackrock. They have been massively pushing for anti-japan campaigns since at least the mid 10s, the most recent ones you probably heard of is sony aniplex buying kadokawa to save them from gooks buying shareholder shares to take control of the company after the gooks pooled money through blackrock loans. Recently they also funded both the solo leveling and khazan marketing campaigns.
>>67636 >>67650 fucking gooks
>>67467 > I don't want to learn japanese and read raws... You don't need to learn "japanese" to read raws. You need to learn manganese. Ganbatte ne nanashi san. >>2981 >>67519 >captcha is obviously 241a88 >types c32693 Filtered.
Centralization is bad and this has been proven over and over again. We need to return to the era of "a web with a billion islands" .
can't say that I care. more of an anime guy myself and rarely read manga. the only manga I read these days is Drama Queen. and whatever smut I find from nhentai.net
>>67779 Got Batoto'd, basically.
>>67779 Never. Billions of islands are impossible to keep financially afloat. You need to bake financial incentive into your decentralized protocol if you don't want it to lose. So far no one managed to do that for bandwidth+storage.
>>67584 >>67629 Very sussy

I really don't care about okamadex, but two manga that I was reading and enjoying got taken down and probably DMCA'd. So I've been pondering... "This DMCA was just too fucking hude and those fags just handed out their life work like that, for free, this is just too fucking ridiculous" But thinking a little more... Those guys have been talking for years about going mainstream and following CR/FAKKU footsteps. Maybe they are not lying, but perhaps they are not telling the whole truth about it. I bet those fags made a deal and sold the data they had on scanslators and popular/semi popular series to the DMCA to happen and handed the ownership to MD for "free", in a way, not for money. But got something in return. Maybe employment, or something else. I mean, this was so ridiculous that even small series and manga with low popularity got taken down. For you guys to understand a fucking self published work by an author got taken down, pic related. This was being translated by an anon from 4chan /a/ and got taken down by the DMCA. So in my opinion, for the DMCA people to get this kind of information, the only possible reason is to MD to have sold out the information to them. tl;dr: mangadex sold site data for the DMCA
>>68025 Reminds me of Irodori's copyright strikes nuking even pixiv and twitter galleries if it's made by an author they publish.
>>68025 Are you saying you think some corporation bought the rights (or at least the silence) of Mangadex and they covered up the evidence by a DMCA sweep? This would be fucking huge. I wouldn't put it past them, though. Some mind-boggingly random titles in my feed had their chapters wiped. At least something like what you propose would make sense. What would the legality of such a situation be? Does Mangadex have some fine print along the lines of "by posting here, you give away all your rights to your intellectual property"?
>>68136 Namicomi, the company that got the ownership of MangaDex, is also owned by the MangaDex founder, Hologfx, or Henry L. Not sure about that, but if it's true, thats all the evidence we need and everything will make sense. This just means that the game was rigged from the start.
I spent some time reading the reddit thread, it sounded like they had yanked about 1400 mangas so far, and have 7,000-10,000 mangas processing for removal.
If my Berserk scans are safe, its ok, dont want to rely on pajeet scans not anymore
I dunno if its always been a thing too but deleting your account data at mangadex is blocked currently. It lists "unavailable" on the button.
>>68264 >and have 7,000-10,000 mangas processing for removal. Might as well shut down the site if true
>>68265 >>68264 All those thousands of scanlation work. Wasted.
>Remember Madokami exist >Last time I used it was 3 years ago >Forgot password >Had to dig up old tablet that had password saved on it Boy did I start sweating.
>>68280 yeah it fucking sucks hopefully the scanalators didn't put all their works into mangadex and nothing else
>>68281 Well, it has been years. I hope someone was making backups from the scanlations on Madokami. Because lots of work are being lost in this purge.
>>68278 That's kinda the deal. Mangadex will be a bridge that funnels traffic to Namicomi. Also, all the data, information, discord links, email and everything else the users put on it belongs to Namicomi now so they can use it as they please.
>>68312 >Namicomi >check it >it's pretty much webtoon with some shitty looking titles at the front
Anyway. Are there any websites that let you buy manga as easily as you buy games on Steam? So far I was seeing you generally have to use PayPal(shitty) or credit card(muh data) while you can't use prepaid cards for some reason despite Steam and even some smaller payment processors supporting it.
(615.54 KB 1656x1036 Kindle_itS17ag5Eb.jpg)

>>68499 I buy raw mangas on Amazon Japan directly in Kindle format >currently the cheaper option between the low value of the yen and not having to pay for shipping fees and (if you're in the EU) custom taxes unlike physical books >regularly a lot of sales - with manga volumes going as low as 10円 per book or even handed out for free during certain events >Generated Amazon points can lower the price of the next order(s), with certain volumes being worth more points at occasions (20% ~ 50% of the book value converted into points) <while Amazon has the largest digital manga library available in the Japanese market, it's somehow missing specific candidates (with obvious ones like Yotsubato or Vagabond) <not exactly recommended to buy each book separately if your bank card imposes a small fee for every order paid in a foreign currency - there is no shopping cart for kindle books, only the ability to pay bundles Obviously a lot more practical to carry around books on the phone, as well as less physical storage at home, even if it will never replace the feel of paper to me.
>>68499 Some Steam key websites like Fanatical or Indiegala also have comics and manga for sale.
>>68507 >even if it will never replace the feel of paper to me. Paper rots and yellows over time. My fingers also never liked the raspy feeling of cheap paper. I gotten so use a smartphone's smooth glass screen that I can't go back. Plus the backlit screen is nice for midnight reading.
>>68025 Antijapan kikes are desperate to the point they would unironically do this for free, you are trying to find logic in a cult currently sinking trillion dollar companies to own da chuds.
>>68278 But how will they shill gooky goykuso if they take down the site?
>>67467 It was because of manhwa that they got hit lmao. Mangadex is the slowest piece of shit ever, they learned nothing from Batoto back in 2018 when it also went down. Allowing people to post manga in 10 different languages and then also adding webcomics, 'western' manga, korean shit, chinese shit etc. just totally fucked two websites in the last 10 years and the retards never learn.
>>68611 >Kakao and the rest of the gooky companies are going apeshit trying to kill all "piracy" of the shit they refuse to translate and release globally, what do? >Oh I know, we will shill MD as the biggest and best place to read gookkuso and literally redesign our reader to work better with longstrip kuso! This type of genius move could truly only come from a westoid.
>>68516 >He doesn't like OWNING things. Ngmi.
>>68661 Allowing gookshit on your website at all is a very serious mistake.
>>68611 They should have just stayed true to their name and made another site called Asiacatalog or something.
>>68802 Like batoto, they got greedy for adbux. Those KR webtoons and even chinese comics are getting popular and there are quite the overlap between those and manga readers, so they thought they can reap them all. Hubris and Greed, a tale as old as time.
>>67467 Reading is overrated anyways. Besides, I download everything I want to read in moonrunes anyway
so what are people using now? I thought comick might be good but it seems like it's died too because none of my shit's been updated for 2 weeks
>>68988 Try mangafreak
>>68988 Mangapark with Mihon atm.
>have to read all manga that i donwloaded instead if reading online
>>68824 >and there are quite the overlap between those and manga readers Yes, but by technicality. In japan people read manga because it's cheap (manga originals like shounenkuso) and because it's an easy way to "demo" a series instead of taking the monetary (LN) or time investment (WN) of reading it and seeing if you like it. However, overseas is another matter as it has to be translated, and your choices are either trannies intentionally axe wounding the original (which was already butchered due to the adaptation process) or coping with jeets MTLing. Most actual fans of JP stuff at this point either learned japanese or are in the process of learning it. The only people left reading manga are EOPs that just want to mindlessly consoom, the problem with that is said people have devolved to the point of being lazy enough to not even read manga, but either watch some eceleb talk about it in a 2 hour video essay, or straight up watch "recap" fanfic videos. TLDR: There's no real money to be had from EOP manga readers.
>>68661 i hate longstrip so fucking much
Where are you fags reading manga now? With Dex and Manganato ruined, I got nothing now.
>>70955 >Where are you fags reading manga now? I'm not, anymore.
>>70955 I've been using rawkuma.
>>70955 If the manga is on the Internet Archive I use it. https://archive.org https://archivep75mbjunhxc6x4j5mwjmomyxb573v42baldlqu56ruil2oiad.onion/ Otherwise I use Mangahasu. https://mangahasu.me/
>>70955 Manga is kind of a dead medium nowadays due to being 99% adaptations. The few manga originals that aren't also shounenshit I just read the raws of on the raws site that happens to be up whenever I look it up. For everything else I either read the source LN/VN or stick to the anime.
>>71022 How many manga do you need for the medium to be "Alive"?
