Studio Trigger's shit writing explained Anonymous 05/15/2025 (Thu) 09:34:45 Id: 8ac44c No. 67470
Trigger's only strength is their art & animation, but their shit storytelling is always extremely retarded. In their movie Promare, their hack writers are clearly only interested in "making stuff look cool" with no regards to logic or reason. >Promare duo crashes onto enemy ship >buff dude doesn't feel motivated enough to fight them >he whines that his mech "doesn't look cool enough!" >after he says that, the mech suddenly transforms into a cooler robot >unexplained asspull that made zero fucking sense It gives you insight into Trigger's thought process. It's clear that their writers are All Style, No Substance. As long as it "looks cool", they don't care if their batshit stupid stories stop making sense. Honestly, Trigger should give up writing original stories because they suck at it. They should use their talented animators to adapt stories that are already good. The only reason why their Dungeon Meshi anime turned out alright is because Trigger didn't write it. They simply took an already likable popular manga story and then animated it.
Their shows aren't for me but I still respect them for making original shows (even if they suck).
>>67470 Have you seen Inferno Cop, Luluco, or KLK? It's not just "style over substance", they outright celebrate being retarded.
I don't like how self-indulgent Trigger's original shows tend to be. And I feel it's pretty obvious that they want to keep recapturing the spectacle of Gurren Lagann while ignoring the heart of that show. But still- loud, in-your-face style-over-substance schlock is their whole bread and butter and they're not shy about letting people know that. You're free to not like Trigger's output, but outright getting mad about it is like getting mad at a dirtbike because there's no room to put your groceries. That's not why it was made.
>>67568 What are you interpreting anger from? Bear in mind it's typically distinguished from hatred (i.e. not liking) specifically because of their close relation. To rephrase >hating it is like hating poop because it's not edible. That's not why it was made. There's a more complicated conversation about aesthetics and sensibilities to be had here, but dismissing the expression of dislike is just avoiding (and potentially trying to shut down) that conversation.
>>67550 I didn't like Inferno Cop because it's a low effort Adult Swim cartoon. I use to like KLK as a fun rollercoaster ride when I first watched it. But nowadays, I don't really tolerate Turn Your Brain Off anime anymore. I rewatched it last year and man, the complete retardation of its Nudists vs Clothes story is cringe. I do have soft spot for Space Patrol Luluco tho, despite it being Trigger's usual craziness. It is short and sweet thanks to its 8 minute episodes. The bite sized insanity is more tolerable than enduring 25 full episodes of KLK's stupidity.
I really liked edgerunners, it's clear that with a solid world and external writers they can produce some good stuff. Same with Dungeon Meshi which is just wonderful in every regard, but that barely feels like a trigger anime anymore. Not that I'm complaining..
I'm surprised how long it has taken people to realise Trigger are shit at original content. Even as far back as KLK, that series had some incredibly annoying characters that had go away heat with me.
Inferno Cop was the ideal size and shape of a Trigger anime.
I am surprised nobody has mentioned the shitshow that was Darling in the Franxx <oh but it was only co-produced by Trigger If that show had been good, everybody would have been stroking Trigger's cock, instead of pretending that they didn't have anything to do with it, or that everything bad with it was just some other studio/writer.
>>67777 Trigger was the only studio that could've done a Ninja Slayer anime, and they succeeded.
