Why are Mecha protagonists female now? Anonymous 06/03/2025 (Tue) 16:42:18 Id: b9dfc5 No. 69265
An honest question from an admitted newfag. The last two gundam entries both had two lead female main characters with the male being more of an object or plot point as far as I know. Why is this? I doubt the oldheads who are behind GQuuuux were paid off by big think tanks and orgs to write girl MCs. And they're clearly not doing a good job of it anyway. So why do so? Is it just that these 50 year old writers are tired of writing nekketsu shonen main characters with epic war dramas and so on and they just want to write about cute girls or something?

>>69265 To reach a new demographic. They had witch from Mercury but the writers for the Gundam franchise are terminally disabled and can't write a satisfying plot to save their lives.
I take it that you guys don't remember anime like Iczer, Patlabor, Gunbuster, Bubblegum Crisis, or Plastic Little
>>69265 Mecha in general hasn't really changed; most of the protagonists are still male as in 86, Bravern, Synduality Noir, Evil Lord, etc. In Gundam's case, Bandai delineates AUs to cultivate separate age demographics, so it's probably an experiment in that vein, but in Gnetorare's case, the screenwriters actually have more experience with female protagonists anyways. As to why, consider SEED, which the most successful AU mainly thanks to fujos and character merch, not the robots. The goal here was probably the same but targeting yurifags and waifufags. >>69426 >anon can't into nuance or critical thinking but can show off that he knows of old anime
>>69569 Yeah the question might have been better focused on Gundam perhaps. Experiments with different demographics makes sense. But Gquack doesn't seem well-written even if the writers have more experience with female protagonists. >>69426 I believe anon can into nuance or critical thinking!!! Those are cool examples, thanks for sharing. Both of you anons are cool!
They finally managed to sell Gundam to kids with SD and Build meaning the main shows could try aiming at other demographics. Female leads appeals to both women and moebuta. Both of G-Witch's years individually outsold literally every prior year, meaning it worked.
>>69818 >Both of G-Witch's years individually outsold literally every prior year, meaning it worked. that's a shame because I heard the story sucked hard which means they'll care less and less about good writing...

I, for one, am glad that the "deux is a boy" posters were killed with prejudice.
>>69265 Seeing tomboys pilot big robots is cute and hot
Why they gotta be lesbians tho. "Cute girls in mechs" gets ruined by all the dykery.
>>70525 Just like Deux
Test
>>70244 Its apparently a Gundam tradition the second season is demonstrably worse.
