What is wrong with westoids and why do they keep pushing anti-intellectualism and their refusal to read? Have any of you ever noticed how westoids tend to write off Japanese lit as nothing but trashy fan fiction? It's almost like they think just reading a summary or watching a YouTube video is good enough to understand the whole story, without even bothering to crack open an actual book. I mean, can you imagine someone doing the same thing with Western classics? Yeah, they do that too. It's getting worse over time too. Around the early 2000s people were desperate to scramble to learn japanese because the fan translations for stuff like shana or DaL were too slow. Around the 2010s while the normalfag flood had begun, you still got people willing to learn japanese to read the raws. Now after covid you're hard pressed anyone that reads the source material, hell you are hard pressed to find people that actually watch anime at x1 playback speed and not through tiktok videos and manga leak threads. What the fuck went so wrong with the anime community normalfags?
>>72943 >Have any of you ever noticed how westoids tend to write off Japanese lit as nothing but trashy fan fiction? Outside of light novels? No. In fact, haven't seen anyone mention Japanese novels for that matter. >I mean, can you imagine someone doing the same thing with Western classics? As someone who actually has read "Western classics", let me tell you that majority of it is straight-up trash. >What the fuck went so wrong with the anime community normalfags? They're normalfags acting like normalfags. What were you expecting?
Being selective about criticism and posts is important, maybe. >that reddit post I tend to ignore loud people that can't give substantial points, that is, that speaks "in general" "feels" "plausible", because it's a waste of time, they should give names as starting point, otherwise the argument itself is too fuzzy to criticize and they'll change their criticism. Both good and bad examples of series for both eastern and western in this case, because if they don't give a piece their position then it'll be an unilateral and wasteful criticism for a too broad medium/industry.
>>72944 LNs are novels anon, around the turn of the millennium there was a distinction but at this point browsing the bunko label of any publisher is just 100% stuff you would call a LN.
>>72951 >LNs are novels anon The structure and format of their storytelling is different. (Standard) Novels are self-contained stories, even when it's a series. Light novels are serialized ongoing stories. And while they all are "novels", you'd be receiving a massive lecture from someone for comparing (In the Western context) the The Executioner (A monthly series) to Red Harvest or even Jack Reacher.
>>72954 Would you consider LOTH and guin saga "standard" novels?
>>72954 One shot LNs are fairly common, the fuck are you on about?
>>72945 I noticed this too. Nowadays if someone doesn't instantly ground the discussion with specific pieces of media they can directly name then the entire topic is a waste of time. This isn't even an anime and manga thing specifically, it's a thing with all mediums.
>>72960 Let's be honest, those are just jewtube-watcher pseuds wanking themselves off at their own enlightened opinions.
>>72965 The pseudo-intellectual plague has gotten worse in recent years honestly.
