Why do people refuse to read the source material of a series? Anonymous 10/01/2025 (Wed) 10:58:00 Id: c92a78 No. 73472
This insistence seems eternal (has been a problem since at least the early 00s) and only keeps getting worse as time passes. It doesn't matter if someone loved a specific series to death and literally cannot wait for a season 2 (that may never come), they will not read the source material. If the source is a LN, at most they will read the manga adaptation, catch up to the TLd manga chapters and completely forget the series ever existed afterwards. Somehow shit like MT are extremely rare exceptions that confirm the rule and even then the amount of people that actually read the novels are a drop in the bucket in the fandom of said series. >But anon, you are forgetting shounenfags! And that's where you're fucking wrong, shounenfags don't read manga, they follow twitter leaks and then get a summary of the chapter from their eceleb of choice.
>implying he has a good measure of the demographics You're looking in the wrong places, for the incorrect activity, using wrong methods and with the misled assumption that people reading would be interested in posting there. Even nyaa torrent is a better reference to see popularity. >inb4 but that ignores stream watchers Irrelevant. Generalist and dopamine ruled websites tends to segregate different than slower and more specialized websites, if you want a dopamine-ruled website about LN and maybe manga I'm not sure what to say, even manga only exists as reaction pic (and people rarely asks the source unless it's H).
>>73472 >Why do people refuse to read the source material of a series? Because they insistance that they either "Don't have the time" or "The anime is just like the game/manga/LN/VN so there is no need to waste time experiencing the 'same story' all over again". Actually encountered one of these people recently, and I think I unironically argued to the point of making the person cry. And how I got to that point was backing him into a corner by asking him to address his apparent implication that there is "zero difference" between playing Lego LotR and reading the actual Tolkien novels. Even brought up recent instances like the Bocchi The Rock anime being blatantly censored on the screenwriter's demand, and asked if people should be watching that version or experiencing the original manga.
>>73472 I don't see the issue, they like anime for both its contents and its format, and the source material despite having the same contents has a different, higher effort format If people didn't like animation they would hardly ever start to watch japanese cartoons, as they are heavily outnumbered and frequently outdone by very old books. I really cannot imagine why a the best japanese books written in the last 30 years of their tradition would compare to the best western books written in the past 300 years Most people don't even claim to like anime writing, outside of rare cases. if jjk or any other shounen was a book I would not have been able to read it, the lack of depth would depress me
>>73475 >Lego lord of the rings I.... Anon, do look out for the little guy
>>73475 >Don't have the time I never really understood that excuse when the people that use it would instantly turn around and start wasting their entire day on tiktok/reddit/4chan/twitter/etc.

>>73472 The average normalnigger doesn't care about actually getting immersed in anything, they only want distractions so their own thoughts don't eat them alive. >>73475 Picrel honestly. Which mind you is a completely different can of worms, because once you start you never end until you are fluent in japanese. If you are watching anime may as well use the sub instead of the abridged parody dub. If you are using subs may as well check on the manga to see what the anime skipped. Whoops, turns out the manga is not the source material, it's either a VN or a LN. May as well try translate that on your own as well given okamalators are not to be trusted. For those that endure it. it's a fun journey, but even outside normalfags, most people tend to settle for reading the LN in english and calling it a day.
>>73475 Came here to post this. At the end of the day people are monkeys that need keys jingled in front of them. Manga and novels don't have music and animation they can mindlessly consoom, even manga requires a bare minimum of effort to read that they refuse to do.
>>73499 >even manga requires a bare minimum of effort to read that they refuse to do. Yeah which is why people don't read manga anymore lmao, they just get the summaries from their favourite eceleb.
My friends would say that things are better voiced and animated...then again they were talking about Bleach.
>>73537 Funny because bleach is one of the few shounen that weren't improved by the anime and is still far better as a manga.
>>73557 Bleach was genuinely sabotaged by it's anime. The manga isn't anything great, and still has all the same flaws, but the anime added several that turned it from a good but flawed read into total dogshit. Somehow it even had worse filler than Naruto.
>>73644 >worse filler than Naruto One of the dumbest things I've ever read. Bleach filler (outside of the Bount arc) was great. Naruto filler was just insufferable.
>>73705 >ignoring X Anon...
>>73707 Bleach has one instance of bad filler. Naruto has no good filler.
>>73717 Bountu arc when it was airing was the worst experience. Week to week waits for vinyl gothic background music with soft dio breaths.
>>73723 >when it was airing What shounenshit is good when it's airing/publishing? At the end of the day binging after it's done is always the better experience.
>>73557 >>73644 That's the irony of it. Some manga from Jump was best enjoyed while it was being published (To Love Ru, Medaka Box, etc.), but Bleach is the kind that's very binge friendly.
>>73747 Medaka box is very much not one that is better enjoyed weekly.
>>73753 Once Kumagawa entered the story it became a "you had to be there" wild ride.
>>73731 >binging after it's done is always the better experience <binging anything EVER being a "good experience Every single time I've ever "binged" something, I end up feeling sick afterwards and remembering only half of what I read/watched.
>>73759 That legitimately sounds like a (you) problem.
>>73759 I kind of agree. What I usually end up doing is deliberately start skimming the latter halves so I don't get into that state. I guess it's kind of related to investing my time and energy into something that's completely intangible in nature. I feel the same bout MMOs and online games too.
>>73472 but if i spend time reading the source, then i won't have time to watch the next kuso!
>>73766 there is a feeling of annoyance that comes with a conflicted state of wanting to see the rest of the plot, and being tired of the worst, disagreeable elements of a show taking up your precious time.
>>73791 >of a show Kinda part of the problem there.
>>73472 This is the only Light Novel I ever read, I guess I couldn't wait for season 2 of the show so I read Year 1 a few years ago, and I can't even remember what really compelled me to do it, back then, because I never done it before, and I definitely can't imagine myself doing it again now, I can barely read the history/non-fiction books that I have on my shelf. I don't read comics/manga/light novels at all simply because I never grew up with them. Kinda hard to get into these things while living in a region where this wasn't the norm and they weren't accessible.
I will add that I am interested in manga when it comes to something like Berserk which I came across once and I think the art looks incredible, so that could be my gateway into the medium. Though it'll have to be by getting the actual books and not reading from the screen. I prefer having the real thing in my hands and I dislike reading too much through a screen. Unfortunately the books are expensive as hell so it's not a priority right now for me.
>>73837 >I can barely read the history/non-fiction books that I have on my shelf. But why? It takes less effort than reading manga or watching anime.
>>73843 >It takes less effort than reading manga or watching anime. I think I didn't make it clear, it's not just about the effort, I meant by barely being able to read the other books is how I don't regularly have time allocated to them, so whenever I do I just read those and don't even think about branching out like getting into LNs etc. As to why read those over mange etc in the first place, let's just say books that have educational value take priority over entertainment for me.
>>73472 Here's the thing, if you watch anime then watching with subs instead of dubs is not that big of an effort change if you aren't a low IQ fag. Yes it may have a dogshit translation, but you can probably just find it enjoyable anyway. However, reading the source material means to some degree you care about experiencing the original as the author intended, and you can't do that with a translation due to how dogshit they all are, so that means you gotta learn japanese. That's a barrier basically nobody in the west is willing to do when they just want to turn off their brain to some fight scenes and call it a day.
