/XMR/ - Monero General Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 18:20:14 Id: 739f7f No. 55
Welcome to the /XMR/ Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's most widely adopted privacy coin. <Monero payments are anonymous, low-fee by design and fully fungible, meaning users can send XMR globally without issue and receive XMR without having to worry about tainted coins. Battle-tested privacy tech (Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses and RingCT) ensures that critical TX data cannot be gleaned from the Monero blockchain. Thus by default, the TX history of all Monero users is kept hidden from the prying eyes of adversaries, with TXs being optionally transparent via the aid of a view key. <Monero algorithmically ensures low TX fees by employing a dynamic (elastic) block size that can "stretch" to easily accommodate sudden TX spikes. <Monero's bespoke mining algorithm, RandomX, is optimized for devices using general-purpose CPUs e.g. desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, keeping the barrier to entry low and ASICs out of the equation. <Monero's tail emission - 0.6 XMR every block forever - financially incentives for-profit miners to keep mining, helping boost long-term network security. This constant linear inflation asymptotically trends to zero and is offset somewhat by a steady rate of coin loss. <Monero has thus far proven to be the only altcoin capable of overcoming BTC's network effect by driving it out of the darknet economy BTC dominated for over 10 years. Monero is now also starting to overtake BTC in clearnet commerce as well. See below. <If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly. P2Pool has no central server that can be shut down/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't. It's permissionless! Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. Once P2Pool reaches & maintains 51%+ of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks. Although many inexperienced miners think that bigger pools give better profits, this is absolutely NOT the case. Your profits in the long run depend ONLY on your hashrate, NOT on the pool's hashrate. >YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL FASTER & EASIER THAN EVER BEFORE WITH THE GUPAX GUI. USES TRUSTED REMOTE NODES BY DEFAULT!!!! 1. Download the *bundled* version of Gupax for your OS here: https://gupax.io/downloads/ 2. Extract somewhere (Desktop, Documents, etc) 3. Launch Gupax 4. Input your Monero address in the [P2Pool] tab. USE A SEPARATE MINING-ONLY WALLET! 5. Select a Community Monero Node that you trust, although you can and should run your own node if possible. 6. Start P2Pool 7. XMR amounts larger than a few hundred dollars worth should not be stored on a hot wallet for obvious reasons. So ideally, you'll want to direct all payments/donations to your cold wallet by default and then transfer smaller amounts over to your hot wallet as necessary. Relying on 3rd party hardware wallets comes with certain security caveats so they are not recommended. Instead, its surprisingly easy to engineer a very robust storage solution yourself using readily available hardware: a laptop and a smartphone. >Laptop This will be running Featherwallet and must be *permanently* disabled from ever connecting to the internet again! That means physically removing the M.2 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi card and gumming up the ethernet port with superglue. OS should be Linux rather than Windows, preferably a Debian-based lightweight distro. Encrypting the relevant user directory with LUKS is recommended but not essential. It must have a functional webcam. >Smartphone This can be your primary device. It will host both your hot wallet e.g. Cake, Monerujo, etc and the NERO view-only wallet that is paired with your laptop. To set everything up: https://4rkal.com/posts/feathernero/ NOTE: if you don't have a laptop you can use another smartphone and install the ANON wallet onto it, its essentially the same thing but with somewhat weaker security guarantees. Video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJqYzZyqyno >In a nutshell - you accept all (substantial) payments to your cold wallet. - you monitor incoming payments on NERO. - you initiate the transfer of funds from your cold wallet to hot wallet on NERO and sign the TX on your laptop via QR codes. - you spend the funds and help grow the XMR economy. FYI this is the most secure storage solution currently available.
>>55 There's no easy way for me to get some XMR in my country and I'm not really interessed in crypto, I just stumbled here by accident since I was surprised to see that even /biz/ exist here but I'll still bump you thread because Monero-chan is cute and XMR is the only crypto that stayed true to their root.

>>288 Monero chan a cute
>>288 There are DEXes you can use, but if you want privacy I lean towards using Tornado Cash over Monero for other reason than the fact it (and the ETH world in general) is absurdly more liquid.
going to try to solo mine, wish me luck
>>460 That's going to be a fun challenge, good luck!
>>451 tornado cash privacy is better than nothing but it is not built in privacy like monero locking value on the ethereum chain should only be done with rewards eth supply changes
>>529 >tornado cash privacy is better than nothing but it is not built in privacy like monero Monero is way better for privacy and doesn't have the sanction issue tornado cash does, but if Kraken bans you it's a lot harder to actually convert it to fiat. It's a tradeoff like everything else. >eth supply changes The change in supply is pretty predictable, currently with the current fees and rewards I think it's about +0.8%/yr.
>>592 please go back to your haircomb containment thread
>>288 Try Cake Wallet via Litecoin (then swap to Monero) or Retoswap
>>609 The anon didn't say what country but you can buy Monero directly with EUR in Cake.
Full chain membership proofs wen
>>610 >>609 Cake wallet is really good, impressive even
Where did most of /xmr/ migrate to? Seems like nobody went to BitChan this time.
>>962 >BitChan Thats what I want to know as well anon.
>>962 >>989 >nobody went there I can tell you why >only on tor
>>1017 >only on Tor/I2P That shouldn't deter the average MoneroChad posting on /xmr/, right?
Monero is supposed to be private. How private is it really? Let's say I'm mining monero, can someone looking at my internet traffic know that I am in fact mining monero? What If I am sending monero?
>>1244 Really depends on your setup. If you're mining to a centralized mining pool without SSL, yes, they would know. If you use SSL, they only know you're connected to a pool but not what you're doing. If you use a (non-logging) VPN or Tor, they don't know you're connected to a pool. When you send Monero, it's similar. If you use a remote node, the remote node knows your IP (unless you use Tor/VPN). If you run your own node, it uses protocol called Dandelion++ that obfuscates where a transaction originates from by not broadcasting it directly but routing it through a couple other nodes before it's broadcast (similar to how a Tor connection works), downside is that it requires port forwarding. But you can set up a tx-proxy over Tor/I2P to mitigate that or use a VPN. So yeah, network traffic can expose that you're using Monero unless you're careful.
>>1190 I want to use a private fungible currency I don't want to use tor
I love you Monerochan
>>2137 Monerochan is so cute
just kill me... even for a cpu coin you need some super expensive epycs to get anything
>>2440 do you have to solo mine?
>>2490 nope but even the pool is almost a day. if only it could use the gpu.. it would probably be far faster since its very recent while the cpu is not
>>2440 Maybe it would be a good idea to reduce block times so people can mine more easily. It would help P2Pool mini to find blocks more often too.
>>2525 good news! i left it running for the night and woke up a few pennies richer (<0.10). not sure if its at all worth the running costs but its something
>read the monero thread on /t/ >they don't want to buy monero because it's not on exchanges
>>2572 they probably have some gay excuses but one legit concern is that since its not on the mainstream platforms the upside could be pretty limited. for the value to go up it needs to be easy to obtain even for the retarded masses. bitcoin is even being pumped by the stock market now as there are various bitcoin etfs and the like that you can invest in
>>2528 at least in winter time the miner heat is useful >>2587 but you can easily get xmr on cake wallet, no?
>>2615 >but you can easily get xmr on cake wallet, no? How?
>XMRBTC That's one big candle
>>2630 1 install the free cake wallet app on your phone 2 look for the exchange button

2024 https://www.getmonero.org/2024/04/27/fcmps.html >This means every input goes from an immediate anonymity set of 16 to 100,000,000. Holy based >Transaction chaining allows signing a transaction spending another transaction, before the spent transaction is published and mined on-chain. This enables certain layer-two designs for Monero (such as some payment channel protocols).
So what are some options for safe on and off ramps to fiat?
>>2653 ocean is pretty fast but using the gpu like this makes it super slow for everything else. even changing tabs here lags :D
>>2657 There's info in the OP. Kraken supports it. https://www.kraken.com/prices/monero

>Why Bitcoiners Will Benefit From Stablecoin Legislation https://archive.ph/t8U48 <The recent passage of the Senate’s GENIUS Act and House’s upcoming “Crypto Week” mark a seismic shift in the financial world. The bill, which passed by a 68–30 vote, establishes a federal regulatory framework for stablecoins, including reserve requirements, issuer disclosures, and consumer protections. This legislation lays the groundwork for the US financial system to break free from the monopoly that banks have long had on money, creating room for innovation and competition in financial services. <Central to this transition is the adoption of stablecoins, cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a stable value by pegging them to a reserve asset. Stablecoins offer a stable medium of exchange and a store of value while enabling smoother digital transactions and wider blockchain adoption.

What do you guys think of No KYC cards such as Goblin Card, Solcard, etc.? There are crypto cards that ask for KYC, but that's a mess because every time you buy something with "crypto", in reality you're selling the crypto for fiat and buying with fiat, and every sale is a taxable event with capital gains tax. However, crypto cards without KYC could be used to evade taxes. But are they actually private/useful or is it a honeypot?
>>7774 Are you talking about the ones where you borrow money using your crypto as collateral? I think it's legal, and one of the ways the rich avoid taxes. It's certainly an interesting idea. Might be worth it where you absolutely have to use fiat.
