As if there is anything else to talk about.
>>45084 Spiderman being popular is so weird. Is it only because of those sony movies?
>>45105 Spider-man has been popular since his inception. It would be more weird for him not to be popular.
>>45110 But why? What's his appeal?
>>45100 Death to all Paul enjoyers. >>45111 >Nerd >Sharp wit, makes quips with his enemies that aren't Whedon-esque >Gets bitches >Great power, great responsibility, yadda yadda
Are we free of Gwenschizo Spider-Bros or will his autism find this place? Anyway I picked up the Epic Collection that has Wolfman's run and it's okay. His hatred of Mary Jane and his waifuing of Betty are really weird and I think for the most part the issues on an individual level are kind of eh but I think he does a good job of building up plots and paying them off. The Jigsaw issue (#188) was a lot more fun than I expected because I liked seeing Spider-Man just scare the shit out of someone and his basically teling Jigsaw "shoot me, pussy" should be an all time great Spidey moment.
So that Moana Spider-Girl book fell off a fucking cliff, huh? Zero footprint post announcement. #1 is gonna sell because Spider-Girl #1, but I'm curious about how the actual numbers will look like.
>>45234 I'm vaguely interested because I think it could be decent so long as the writing is. The character isn't an inherently worthless concept or anything. But yeah, it'll get the standard 10 issues and die if it's lucky. It could very well be a Weapon X-Men situation and sell so badly that they have no choice but to can it after a few issues.

>>45111 >What's his appeal? Spider-Man's appeal is that he's basically the blueprint for the modern superhero with double life drama. So much so that Marvel built their brand off of it and others have been copying it ever since. The iconic costumes, web-shooters, superpowers, and supervillains help, but [good] soap-opera drama is the key hook.
>>45234 >>45246 Didn't they JUST introduce some other girl spider with twintails to crib of Spider-Boy's unexpected success? Now they're making ANOTHER one barely a few months later?
>>45444 >Didn't they JUST introduce some other girl spider with twintails to crib of Spider-Boy's unexpected success? That's the one we're talking about.
>>45246 I don't like loli but I have a weakness for high-leg leotards and this is making me feel things.
Agent Venom is best Venom
>>45084 Kill Miles. Behead Miles. Roundhouse kick Miles into the concrete. Slam dunk Miles' baby sister into the trashcan. Crucify filthy Miles. Defecate in Miles food. Launch Miles into the sun. Stir fry Miles in a wok. Toss Miles into an active volcano. Urinate into Miles' gas tank. Judo throw Miles into a wood chipper. Twist Miles' head off. Report Miles to the IRS. Karate chop Miles in half. Curb stomp pregnant Rio Morales. Trap ,Miles in quicksand. Crush Miles in the trash compactor. Liquefy Miles in a vat of acid. Eat Miles. Dissect Miles. Exterminate Miles in the gas chamber. Stomp Miles' skull with steel toed boots. Cremate Miles in the oven. Lobotomize Miles. Mandatory abortions for Rio Morales. Grind Morales fetuses in the garbage disposal. Drown Miles in fried chicken grease. Vaporize Miles with a ray gun. Kick Miles' grandma down the stairs. Feed Miles to alligators. Slice Miles with a katana.
>>45084 Hercs back? Last I remember all the Olymipans died and were ressurected as space alien gods or something That's neat I guess, but I'm not reading that The only thing making me read Venom was the mystery of the host and now that that's gone s am I. Ultimate has been enjoyable but I'm still sore about how Benom had no qualms about his "son" revealing his identity to a "villain" that's in association with way worse villains who could harm the family, but I guess that plot point doesn't matter too much anymore since they've all fled the city anyway. I held off on reading Spider-Boy on principle but I caught that final tourument issue due to Spider-Girl and have been keeping up with it since, it's a fun book! Did not care for Amazing Spider-Man "#1"
>>45550 It's so weird that they turned Flash Thompson into a superhero and it stuck.
>>45601 Weren't they always space gods? I remember them all having some ship they all met in for rare meetings. They complained about Jesus never showing up. >>45614 Weirder that he and Pete have been going this long without knowing who the other is.
>>45615 Maybe you mean the Infinite Embassy? I know the skyfathers specifically meet up every now and then for big things too When I say space gods I mean they were literally in space after dying and being reborn in a Guardians run
>>45444 Same one. She's a coconut migger who can temporarily copy powers but for some reason has a permanently copied version of Spider-Boy's powers. She was trained by Bullseye.
>>45432 Spider-Man was pretty much born for success We'll give Amazing Fantasy 15 its due credit, it's a very solid foundation But compare Spidey's on-going to his peers' in the early days of 63-64 Most other capes were still headlining the anthology magazines and so were limited in their scope and cast. Thor basically only has one supporting character in Jane and one recurring antagonist in Loki Iron-Man is lucky to have both Pepper and Happy has supporting cast Ant-Man and Wasp only have each other Then the other full size books, Fantastic Four and X-men, are team books who have to compete with each other for viewer affection. And even as a full size book FF only has Alicia as recurring support and Doom and Namor as recurring antogonists Contrast this all with Spider-Man who not only has Aunt May, but a full cast at school and a separate supporting cast at the Bugle, plus a more colourful villain roster
>>45771 >Ant-Man and Wasp only have each other I'm honestly surprised Stan never tried to get a proper Ant-Man ongoing off the ground because he fucking loved that character for whatever reason. There's a story from Howe's book about how when they'd be pitching characters to adapt to movies, Stan would always insist on pitching Ant-Man.
>>45789 Of the anthology stories I mentioned Ant-Man is probably the most well thought out, in both narrative consistency and world building I'll mention Dr Strange too. I've only read the first couple of appearances, so not quite enough to form the same level of opinion but I'm always engaged when reading
(178.97 KB 1743x497 How we've fallen.JPG)

>>45162 That is weird. I liked Betty at first, same with Liz Allan, but they both quickly started getting on my nerves. Betty more so because she just can't give Pete the benefit of the doubt. I was surprised to see MJ teased so early. Based on the way they've been dangling her in front of us and building up to the reveal I can only assume she was planned to be endgame all the way back when Steve and Stan were hashing out ASM # 15. I mean, she technically appears before the Goblin Glider or Scorpion are even introduced into the story. >>45100 How we've fallen. Truly, this is not the Marvel Age of Comics any longer.
>>45234 Well, of course. How can I count the ways this is set up for failure? > 1. No one asked for or wants this. > 2. They aren't able to fully explore the concept because Pete has been sidelined and dragged through the mud to such a degree that she can't be his Jubilee-esque sidekick or even hangout with him so she's just some literally who Donut Steel essentially trying to carry her own series by being a ripoff with nothing of note for herself. > 3. They're purposely making her design as visually unappealing as possible because they're all a bunch of middle-aged to senior cucks and are terrified of looking like creeps. > 4. Due to the current climate in the West it is impossible to write a pleasant female character so she's an obnoxious Mary Sue with no redeeming qualities > 5. She's basically stealing the gimmick of not one, but two fan favorite characters that the dolts in charge refuse to write or portray positively and using her as an excuse for why they don't need to use those characters anymore (Pete and the real Spider-Girl, his daughter.) > 6. She basically exists solely to give Bailey someone to have in his supporting characters and he's also an annoying Donut Steel guilty of all of the above, as well. >>45237 > it could be decent so long as the writing is. Anon, lets not delude ourselves now. The writing will be atrocious.
>>45111 Bro, that's like asking what's the appeal of tits. You either look at it and go: "Fuck yeah!" or it's just not for you. You can intellectualize it all you want, but for myself and many others it goes all the way back to being a toddler and among the cavalcade of cartoon rabblerousers you saw Spidey swinging in and went: "Woah. Look at that one." and have been hooked ever since.
>>45614 It's even weirder they turned Liz Allan into a Symbiote.
>>45771 Didn't Daredevil have Foggy and Karen and Johnny have Dorrie? Idk actually I'm just reading through ASM for the first time and they've both guest starred so far with those characters so I just assumed. I will say unless the others pull something unexpected when I finally get around to them it's clear that Spidey just has a more robust world. He somehow feels like a real person with a regular life and also a superhero at the same time. And they just have a lot of lively things going on. It's easy to underappreciate or write-off characters like J. Jonah Jameson, Flash Thompson, Liz Allan, Betty Brant, Aunt May, and Uncle Ben but they all add a lot to the world that makes a Spider-Man comic far more entertaining than your average cape comic. Just those personalities or JJJ and Flash and the gang always bumping up on him add a nice flair to the story. I was just reading the one where Peter has to dash away from the Spider-Man fan club to look after Aunt May in the hospital and just seeing how much of an over the top fucker Jameson was about it was too much (in a good way.) The way he rubbed it in, buying ads on TV just to shit talk Spidey as a coward, taking out billboard ads, paying guys to walk around town wearing signs saying to buy his TELL ALL BOOK "The Spider-Man Myth: an expose by J. Jonah Jameson", him giving speeches about it at local colleges, it was to die for. And on top of that not only do Flash and the gang add some down to Earth flair for Pete to be bumping heads with them, but the whole bit with Flash being his biggest fan also adds a lot of zest. I mean how many other heroes would wind up in a situation where they find themselves having to make an appearance at their own fanclub meeting and not have it seem like a contrived situation? And the whole reason he had to leave - Aunt May having a heart attack. It seems like a cliche trope now, but Pete always having to worry about her illness and having to keep his identity a secret from her because she's just too old and fragile to deal with it and her always scolding him for being out late it just adds so much heart and relatability to the story. And when Peter finds Aunt May crying in the attic looking through Ben's old things and spends a whole issue feeling so guilty about it he loses his powers or even all the times he has to deal with Betty and them getting close but then her misunderstanding some situation he's in and pulling away from him and always giving him trouble; those things add so much to the world that really become apparent when you think of what would another hero be doing by contrast? Sitting in the Batcave running tests? Tracking down a villain? Going to space and dealing with a color cast of characters? All of those things are cool but Spidey can do those AND have a lot of heart and domestic drama. Other heroes just lack that human aspect and when you try to insert it into their lives it just doesn't work and usually winds up contrived.
>>45985 Also forgets how The Thing and Johnny would duo in Strange Tales and Two in One issues as they were more popular than the full team. Eventually leading to The Thing getting his own solo series.
>>45084 >All-New Venom Should've been Carol.
>>46062 Should've been Peter
Should've been Aunt May
>>46065 This would've actually been cool
>>45979 Right, what we got was more of a spec sheet of hers than a backstory and personality in Spider-Boy issues, and I sincerely believe most willing to give her a chance (I mean, who the fuck is reading comics today in the first place, it's just us) were familiar enough with Spider-Girl to be offput by this maneuver.
>>46427 Calling her Spider-Girl and having her keep Bailey's powers was dumb. I'm not against the idea of a completely new character or one with only a few appearaces getting their own series since that's how it use to be. But I guess Funhouse just isn't marketable enough and it's not an environment where a largely new character has any shot like a Moon Knight or Darkhawk or whatever could back in the day. The Spider-Girl fans are kind of a wash since there's so few of them and they'd bitch no matter what. They threw a fit about Anya 20 years ago when they thought she was replacing Mayday (and DeFalco took a shot at her too at the same time with that arc where she steals May's body which is oh so subtle). Also Spider-Girl after #60 becomes increasingly bad with stupid stories and meandering along with no real direction.
(355.81 KB 988x1500 clean.jpg)

>>46062 Should've been Alpha.
>>45084 Reread BND recently after the movie announcement, and I actually liked it more than I expected. Unscheduled Stop and The Gauntlet were pretty solid. Surprisingly, out of all the potential love interests introduced during that era, I ended up liking Michele the most. She was fun, kinda wish she’d stuck around a bit longer.
>>46074 Poison already exists and is the official name for Peter when the symbiote fully takes him over. Peter becoming Venom would be too similar to Poison
>>45162 You should be wary that someone worse could manifest here
Read through Stern's run and it really is peak Spider-Man. The stories aren't mindblowing or game changing but they just really capture what makes Spider-Man so good. Of course while everyone will always talk about the Hobgoblin and Juggernaut stories, IMO the Brand Corporation storyline from ASM #231-236 (and PPSM #57) is just about the perfect Spider-Man story. You get fun use out of some atypical villains, enjoyable and clever fights, great use from the supporting cast, a constant high stakes that aren't world ending threats or Goblin shit, Peter's morality taking center stage and an element of tragedy to make the victory bittersweet. It's a shame it doesn't get talked about the way Stern's other stories do.
>>46456 Would you say catching up on modern spider man is worth it? I plan to stop around the 90s or after clone saga, somewhere around there maybe give Bendis Ultimate Spider Man a try when I get there, but I hear a lot of bad things about OMD and of course Slott/Wells or whatever, but I also hear good things about JMS’s run besides just OMD so I dunno. I’m already on the Lee Romita run and have been having a lot of fun with it.
>>48329 Yeah I'm a big fan of mid 70s to mid 80s Spidey And like you said it isn't even about the big well known stories, but that era is just well crafted and had an enjoyable vibe
>>48687 Ultimate is definitely worth the read, I really enjoyed it all the way through, even if it starts to lose some steam after Ultimatum. The way they handled Peter’s death and the fallout around it was also really well done. JMS’s run was pretty solid too. Some parts, like the magic spider god and spider totem stuff, weren’t everyone’s favorite, but overall I think it’s a run worth checking out. OMD is bad, there’s not much else to be said about that story at this point. But I’d honestly give BND a shot; I thought it was an overall good read. If you like that, you could probably try out Big Time, but that ends with Superior Spider-Man, and it’s basically just been constant downhill once Peter gets his body back.
(1005.85 KB 640x642 spider-dad.png)

I'm actually reading the new Ultimate Spider-man series and it's been pretty neat. I dislike how his family got dragged into it early and now his identity is blown because I was hoping for more Spider-dad without having to watch his kid get torn apart by super villians but, hey, maybe they won't do that. Plus dat beard.
>>48780 Ultimate is awful because it feels like it's more about everyone else. Also Hickman is probably the most overrated writer in at least recent comics history. He's Bendis tier in every way except his autism tricks people into thinking he's smart.
>>48797 You're a fucking retard.
>>48808 Hickman has never written a good comic. Sounds like you're one of the dipshits that buys into his hype. You probably also think that Al Ewing is a great writer with a "deep knowledge of obscure lore" instead of a Morrison skinwalker trawling the Marvel Fandom wiki.
>>48797 You could say the same things about a movie from Gareth Edwards, too focused on the humans, not enough tension or action
>>48797 Hickman is not anywhere near Bendis tier. He's just kinda got ideas that are only bigger in scope rather than focused on a character's story & world.
>>48879 >Hickman is not anywhere near Bendis tier. He ignores anything anyone else does with characters or continuity and just makes his own shit up. He doesn't really "play nice" with everyone, just does whatever he wants and everyone is forced to react to what he does. His dialogue is also completely asinine but in an autistic, robotic way and not the bad attempt at being clever way. The only difference really is that he doesn't forget his own continuity from issue to issue but that was mostly a problem at the end of Bendis' time at Marvel because he was obviously checked out in his last few years so I guess give it time for Hickman.
>>48881 Fair but Hickman doesn't change characters for his own fetish purposes like Bendis.
Are we doing storytimes?
>>48797 You're a fucking retard. >>48797 >>48881 >He ignores anything anyone else does with characters or continuity and just makes his own shit up. He doesn't really "play nice" with everyone, just does whatever he wants and everyone is forced to react to what he does. This is a problem the majority of capeshit has to deal with.
>>45100 >aura debuff since the Tobey Maguire 3 movie >lost his home >lost the fake kids >lost Jackpot to Venom >will lose his "kiss the cook" apron >will never be featured in Marvel Swimsuit Special >will never be added into rosters of Marvel Rivals >will never have Dylan Brock's respect >will lose MJ to Peter after Venom's presence again like the Tobey Maguire 3 movie >will be forgotten after Venom's presence again like the Tobey Maguire 3 movie Everything okay here Paul?
>>49030 Well shit, why the hell does it save previous posts.
>>49020 ASM got storytimed on plus4chan.
>>49034 >parasite 3 posts in I'm good. I'm asking if you guys want storytimes.
I want storytimes.
Very well then, try out the gallery mode on the top right of the page. Amazing Spider-Man #2, featuring Peter's early onset Alzheimer's, office mandate new backstory and the return of a fan favorite(?).
By the way, attachments load really slow for anyone else? Seeing people post 40MB something webms on /v/ so I'm assuming it's on my end.
And that's it, buy something else. Up next, solicits teasing the hottest new villain, Ares, and the return of a fan favorite(?) artist.

Check it out kids, it's John Romita Jr. and Peter getting pommeled! >New York, NY— April 22, 2025 — The new era of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is off to a thrilling start! Launching earlier this month, the new run from Joe Kelly, John Romita Jr., and Pepe Larraz promises to deliver all the classic Spidey action readers crave, all while taking Peter Parker into bold new territory. Today, fans can peek at what’s ahead with a look at July’s issues, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7 and #8. The two-parter is sure to have fans talking as Spidey gets utterly demolished by HELLGATE, a brutal takedown that marks only the beginning of the mysterious new supervillain’s plans for Spidey—a plot that will continue to ramp up as the series approaches the milestone #975th issue later this year! >THE HELLGATE IS OPEN! >Spider-Man is fighting for his life – literally – as he tries to keep Hellgate from destroying Manhattan. But what does this strange new foe want? And can Peter figure it out before his day gets a whole lot worse?! >TIME TO DIE, SPIDER-MAN! >The fight continues in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #8 as the city watches as Spider-Man takes the worst beating of his life. What can Spider-Man do to rally? There MUST be something!
Predator vs. Spider-Man #1 (2025) >TARGET: SPIDER-MAN IN PREDATOR’S GRITTIEST SERIES YET! In Predator vs. Wolverine, we saw a single Predator stalk Earth’s greatest prey, the killing machine Wolverine. In Predator vs. Black Panther, Yautja invaded Wakanda and nearly dethroned its king. Now Ben Percy turns his twisted brain to Marvel’s most beloved property: Spider-Man! A heat wave sends NYC into a blackout and Spider-Man on patrol as tempers boil across the city. But beneath its grimy sewers and subways lurks a threat unlike anything Peter Parker has faced before. Introducing “Skinner,” a Predator of no honor and no clan — only a thirst for blood. Exquisitely rendered by superstar artist Marcelo Ferreira!
And that's it. Let me know if you want Eddie Brock Carnage and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man dumped. As for Spider-Man related happenings this week, Ock and Mysterio are teaming up with the Avengers and other villains against Doom in One World Under Doom #3.

Thanks for the storytimes. Unfortunately, I'm still unconvinced towards the implications of Carnage staying attached to the current host. Venom is the best for Eddie Brock. Carnage can be attached to Gwen Stacy instead since Cletus is gone. Gwen doing a run of She-Carnage would be interesting to see. >what about the current stories Consider this: >Anti She-Venom to Mary Jane-Watson Parker (Earth-616) >She-Venom to Anne Weying (Earth-1051) >Agent Anti-Venom to Flash Thompson (Earth-616) >Agent Venom manifested from Dylan Brock (Earth-1051) to Dylan Brock (Earth-616)
>>49042 Not a bad issue, though the Shay thing is still whatever. Enjoying the childhood flashbacks more than I thought I would.
>>49040 Files have been loading like shit for me too. The site has been running poorly in general for a few days now.

>>55897 Slott was the onlyone who cared about Bailey and he is going to DC. Bailey will be quietly memoryholed.
>>55897 >>55898 I want to memorize Bailey's holes.
>>55898 >Slott's leaving Who the fuck does Marvel have left? And why DC where you'll have to worry about Bendis destroying your shit?
Ultimate Peter has achieved Gigachad aesthetics.
>>45084 I've been out of the loop, who the hell is Spider-boy?
>>56346 Dan Slott character who got "written out of existence" but restored with the Spider-verse Web of Life being fixed & all the Spiders of the multiverse resurrected. He remembers a lost history where he was Spider-man's sidekick but that history itself wasn't restored.

>>55695 Not a fan of Rick Jones as Toxin.
>>56436 Don't worry about it.
