Zootopia 2 Anonymous 05/21/2025 (Wed) 13:09:25 No. 51773
First trailer out now. What animal do you think the hooded figure is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo4rkcC7kFc
>>51773 Wait... there are reptiles now?
>>51774 Yes.
a little too late for that
>>51774 >>51786 Seems like a retcon unless the snake is an alien or engineered uplift experiment. That might be why the police are after it. Reptiles weren't mentioned that I recall, but the first film showed that only mammals are sapient with carnivore species living off non-sapient animals like seafood and bugs. There's a restaurant called "Blubber Chef" in the background next to the Tundra Town Fish Market implying aquatic mammals or birds aren't sapient. The only living non-mammals that have blubber are penguins unless this setting inexplicably has long extinct marine reptiles they saw no reason to mention. Could be just the Tundra Town equivalent of KFC except it's penguins. A tie in book mentions tuna tartar, fish nuggets, and bug burgers explicitly and there's a food container for a restaurant called BugBurga briefly seen in the film Related to food I kinda kind of wonder where the dairy comes from since we see the fat cheetah police officer eating cereal with milk, pizza is a thing, and earlier drafts had a cheese themed restaurant that Nick and Finnick worked at. Unless it's plant based this would be like all human consumed dairy products coming only from human breast milk.
>>51804 Nothing you mentioned means reptiles can't exist in the world.
>>51805 The first film had all indication in what's shown and what's said that only mammals evolved sapience and there's examples within the film it's acceptable to eat non-mammals as indication of non-sapience. Reptiles aren't explicitly mentioned, but neither are other non-mammals like birds and molluscs. We never see sapient non-mammals and the dialogue and story presented give no indication anything other than mammals are sapient. The characters in the first film consistently use mammal the same way we would use person even. It's bad writing to have everything pointing to only sapient mammals species existing then later saying reptiles or birds or whatever are also sapient, but there isn't a single one living anywhere mammals live or even anywhere close and for some reason no one had reason to mention or acknowledge it. It would be like if a fantasy novel was written with Humans as the only intelligent species and giving no reason to think otherwise then later introducing in a sequel Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Centaurs, Minotaurs, etc also always existing with absolutely no hints they existed prior and not giving explanation why the humans weren't aware of all the other fantasy races they share the world with.
>>51806 he is from the reptile country. Boom.
>>51806 We see a single city & town. Reptiles are not a hard retcon living in other parts of the country.
>>51809 >>51810 I get it and yeah that was my first thought too that the snake is just a foreigner and suggested he's an alien or uplift experiment in my first post to explain why the police would be after him. The police could just be doing that because he's an illegal alien from another country, not a space alien, or they think he's a hostile foreign national. If that is the explanation really hoping Disney doesn't try to be current issue with it. Zootooia Mammals and other classes of sapient non-mammals just being isolationist and racist towards each other would make sense though. I still think it's odd, especially since it's very obvious that Zootopia was not really written with other non-mammal species in mind. I don't fault writers for adding stuff as they go if they integrate it well enough with the prior story, but Disney's track record over the past decade makes me assume it will be clumsily/poorly done and current politics referencing if reptiles are just foreigners. TLDR, Yeah I see your point, but Zootopia was very obviously written with only sapient mammals in mind and I don't expect Disney writers to actually integrate non-mammals to the story well and not have current politics overly referenced if the reason we never saw non-mammals in the first film is because the various animal classes are just segregated/isolationist keeping to their own countries normally. It doesn't give confidence this will be good either if that is the case since the original story of Zootopia of the carnivore minority being discriminated against by herbivores and forced to wear collars that shock them if they get too emotional to prevent aggression was scrapped for being too dark and not doing well with test audiences.
>>51812 Beastars didn't bring in reptiles like Legoshi's grandfather until later. Then even later after that we're told about fish & marine mammals. World building can be slowly dripped with every entry. Not every mammal lives in Zootopia. That does not mean they would not exist. As for what the story would be, if the teaser is anything to go by & they didn't just change the story again like the first time, it's obvious the snake will be framed for a crime Nick & Judy know he didn't commit.
>>51806 Reptiles are going to be the new persecuted minority. >it’s bad writing Yes.
>>51812 >If that is the explanation really hoping Disney doesn't try to be current issue with it. They are. >Zootooia Mammals and other classes of sapient non-mammals just being isolationist and racist towards each other would make sense though. That doesn't matter. I used to have the same complaints until I realized the enitire ideological framekwork of the world for these peope. >>51816 >Beastars didn't bring in reptiles like Legoshi's grandfather until later. What about the serpent security guard that tasks Legosi with solving the murder and then never shows up ever again? >Then even later after that we're told about fish & marine mammals. World building can be slowly dripped with every entry. Beastars is an absolutely TERRIBLE example of world building. As the second half of the series introduces plot points to move the story along, and ONLY to move the story along, just to discard them 10 seconds later. For example, remember that Stands are a thing in the Beastars universe? Or that the current Beastar somehow gets away with outright murder of innocent carnivors, as he uses their corpse's as fertilizer for his garden (And he's only doing it because Legosi's grandpa "selfishly" wanted to start a family)? >it's obvious the snake will be framed for a crime Nick & Judy know he didn't commit. I'm with the other Anon, I'm placing my bets on the story being about immigration with the snake's "only" crime being that he's there in the first place.
>>51806 You can tell Zootopia went through multiple revisions, the world building is unbelievably fucked. Had it not been for furries and women being easily pleased, it would have been forgotten as quickly as Elemental or Wish. There's such a simple fix, too. Instead of prey and predator, the racism metaphor should have been done through a herbivore and carnivore split. Have the main plot be about the two sides making peace and how eating meat from a sapient species is seen as a ginormous taboo. On top of that, each species has its distinct quirks which may or not play into each side's respective stereotypes (carnivores are dumb, strong savages, herbivores are weak but clever pacifists). Judy and Nick are living subventions who embody what Zootopia is all about. Also, Judy only becomes a cop because of DEI shit pushed by the lion mayor (she becoming a cop could be a movie on its own, really). She's not taken seriously by the big, tough cops (herbivores and carnivores alike) because tiny bun. Something something women in the workforce metaphor, something something unbroken persistence. They go after the lion mayor, thinking he's a carnivore who wants to return to the good old days. The big reveal is that the lion genuinely believes in a peaceful coexistence. It's the sheep that wants a race war. The sheep is making a drug that'll make carnivores go feral because she also got bullied for being a herbivore but unlike Judy she never got over it. Throw in a Monsters's University lesson about Judy dealing with the fact that she'll always be a tiny bun and can't be as fast as a cheetah or as strong as an ox but that doesn't mean she doesn't have something to offer. Something something tiny bun fits through vents and is clever just like fox. She saves the town and the big, tough cops now respect her.
>>51829 Beastars isn't a story about the world or changing it. Ultimately it's a love story in a world where they can't be together for things they can't control. The world just serves to show why. Of course Zootopia 2 is going to be another "racism bad" story. But I just know it's going to be a misunderstanding story where the hooded figure in the teaser is the real culprit but puts the blame on the snake for some crime.
>>51774 >reptile arc KINO
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjkIOU5PhyQ I'm calling it now: - Snake is "le poor wholesome immigrant" - Horse is "literally Trump who wants to build a WALL"
>>55264 >>55266 This definitely looks like the snake is going to be a ham fisted immigrant metaphor. It makes me think they're doubling down on certain political stuff now because the execs made them get rid of the more obvious gay stuff in Elio and Inside Out 2 after repeated unprofitable bombs.
>>55562 How would you write the snake character?
>>55665 super star that gets filmed swallowing a chicken's egg.
>>51773 This entire series is such a ginormous waste of potential, only carried by its art direction. It perfectly demonstrates how even a garbage script can be salvaged by marketable cartoon characters and a superficial take on serious themes to appease the "I wanna watch this cartoon but I don't wanna be made fun of" crowd.
>>55778 >This entire series What do you mean "series"? It's just the two movies. Right?
>>55792 If it has tie ins it can be considered a series. Besides, it's obvious that Disney's gonna milk this concept to death.
>>55794 I dunno. Last movie Disney ever made an animated series out of was Tangled and that was ages ago by now.

>>55665 >How would you write the snake character? Mysterious security guard.
>>55792 If you want to accept the abortion comic as canon.

>>55964 Don't forget the JFK one.
>>55973 Back, and to the left...
The only thing this film's announcement makes me look forward to is more porn.
>>51773 How the hell are they going to one-up getting away with a fucking nudist colony scene in a "PG" movie?
>>56055 Too bad the snake isn't a girl.
>>56445 That has never stopped furries (or scalies or what have you).
>>56452 I don't care about fag snakes.
>>56445 YES. You get it.
>>56488 Good snek toon porn is rare. Most of it is fucking vore. I need more.
