Is it a hot take that I think all the characters in this show are assholes?
that's the """""joke"""""
Its not a controversial viewpoint at all. Its an intentionally lowbrow satire of lol so randumb humor with DC characters. The problem is people can't separate the originals from this trash. Its like complaining that Homelander and Omniman exist and they ruin Superman. The show fucking sucks and it sucks even more that the general appearances of the Teen Titans 2003 cast is puppeted around by CN, but they aren't the old show. The fact that the old show even exists as a cornerstone of animated media makes the staff for TTG foam with rage.
I think Raven is cute
>>52078 The original show was a loose retelling of the Wolfman-Perez run, with a lot of liberties taken and a healthy dose of anime because even by 2003 it was starting to take off in the west, even if it would be two more years before Naruto came to Toonami and officially made anime boom. I can see why it’s not an official part of the DCAU (and explains why they never directly mention Batman), but it speaks to the quality of the show people include it in there without thinking.
>>55925 According to Dwayne McDuffie they had originally planned a crossover episode with Teen Titans in Static Shock which is why the episode of Static Shock Hard as Nails has Batman comment that Robin is with the Titans when asked where he is. The reason this didn't happen was out of concern that the crossover episode airing before the premiere of Teen Titans as its own series so they instead went with a Justice League crossover when someone from the studio suggested it. There's about six months between that episode's initial air date and Teen Titans premiering. https://jl.popgeeks.com/episodeA/episodeA.htm I know Static Shock was retconned into the DCAU after the first season since early episodes from the first season reference Superman as if he's fictional and characters talking like super powers aren't already a fairly common thing everyone knows about. I don't think there's really much reason the original Teen Titans cartoon couldn't be part of the DCAU. The only real contradiction I can think of is the various implications and references that the Teen Titans version is Dick Grayson who was already Nightwing by the time the series would take place in DCAU's timeline. They never directly say he's Dick Grayson that I recall and the only reference I can immediately think of is Robin's interdimensional counterpart's, Larry, real name being Dick Grayson backwards. A crossover would work with very little retconning needed because of that. The only real issue with the Teen Titans Robin being Tim Drake is it means eventually he gets tortured by the Joker sometime after that series and retires from super heroics because of the trauma and that's more that it would just be much darker and serious fate for him than anything in the Teen Titans cartoon.
>>55930 And yeah the episode How Long is Forever? shows Robin as being Nightwing in the future, but it would be easy to explain that as temporal butterflies from Starfire's disappearance causing an alternate timeline where Tim Drake didn't get traumatized from getting tortured then personally killing the Joker and eventually took on the mantle from Dick Grayson. Actually that could make a decent fanfic of Starfire, and possibly the other Titans, finding out that the Robin she knows only becomes Nightwing in the alternate future she visited where she was gone for twenty years. It could be interesting, if tragic, for her to see the Batman Beyond version of Robin that's a communications engineer with PTSD who gets possessed by a microchip the original Joker planted in him to become the new Joker.
>>55925 >>55930 >>55931 Honestly, it's better to leave it as it's own thing rather than trying to force them all to co-exist. I take it that people don't remember how, while TT and JLU were airing, you also had The Batman, Krypto, and LoS also broadcasting at the same time, sometimes even on the same channel.
