>>36841 That looks pretty nice
>>36844 I like when people happily share pics of their favorite characters
>>36848 sure thing also this is literally the only video I can find of him in the tamagotchi saturn game (jp website) https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm16282745
(511.13 KB 512x255 OH SHIT OH FUCK.png)

>>36853 OH DAMN, OH GOD, OH HELL
>>36857 Also, if I remember right, Knuckles fucks up this event by Eggman telling him, "No it was the other guy" which confuses Knuckles and Eggman runs away. Knuckles has to go back to the girl and explain how fucking stupid he is.
Shuffle is such a weird game
>>36859 That's how you know it's a real Sonic game
>>36861 Fair
Does crouching on rails even do anything in Unleashed? I'm surprised it's even an option, but I'm not sure it's anything more than an animation
>>36863 I don't have a whole lot of hours in the boost games, but I don't remember it doing a god damn thing, I am comparing it to Sa2 tho, so maybe that's unfair? Different styles and all.

Also this game had the good Super Sonic, the one where he actually looked different than regular Sonic which made him special. Always was weird he was the last unlock. Sonic is two different characters. It would be less weird if there wasn't only 8 characters, that's like Mario Party 1, but instead of Donkey Kong, the 8th character is "Giant Mario"
>>36864 Why is it even in the game?
>>36863 Miniscule difference in speed (sometimes) when you're not boosting. It's very negligible
>>36867 Huh. Do speedrunners make use of it?
>>36866 They needed to flood the levels with grind rails because it's a tunnel simulator, grind rails are used to pad some levels out, it's not usually bad, but sometimes noticeable. My guess it's to give you the illusion of more depth and complexity to boost gameplay.
>>36869 I didn't even realize it existed until recently
>>36868 Nah, there's hardly any grinding in speedruns anyway bc in a lot of levels, massive sections get skipped with m-speed/d-speed
>>36871 Oh, that's right, I remember now how Rooftop Run is just... leapt over. That's pretty consistent to all of the games tho, in some capacity. The Sonic Genesis games are unwatchable clown vomit where they just skip entire stages with screenwrapping, it's boring and ugly to watch.
>>36871 >>36872 Yeah I'm not fond of speedrun skips and strats a lot of the time. I think it's kinda weird that most people don't seem to make a distinction between playing as intended, breaking the game completely, and only using some light tricks.
>>36873 Gone are the days of Naeglarias fucking around at sgdq taking the piss out of these runs for that very reason
>>36825 > I'd be so insanely annoyed at current day Shadow Same, Shadow should have stayed dead. And I say this as a massive Shadowfag. He was the best part of SA2 and has been fucked up and over ever since.
>>36875 I think the best part of SA2 was the last part of the two main stories. All the characters observing or involved in those events are heavily invested and relevant.
>>36873 >I think it's kinda weird that most people don't seem to make a distinction between playing as intended, breaking the game completely, and only using some light tricks. Like many things, I think it comes back to Sonic games generally not being liked as much. Popular speedrun games like Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time have like a million different categories with different glitches allowed or banned.
>>36878 I kinda wish more people liked Sonic. As successful as Frontiers was, when it released I was sad that most people were more interested in Pokemon despite how bad and boring it looked, while Frontiers may as well not even have existed. Of course I know it's Pokemon and you really can't compete with that, but you know.
>>36879 A lot of people do like Sonic. Just... not his games as much

Playing SA2 again and I think Treasure hunting stages are greatly overhated. The goal is to get emerald pieces as fast as possible, but they spawn in random sets, so you have to use hint monitors, but they take away score, score loss that you can make up for by destroying enemies, or just getting the piece fast enough the score tax won't matter. These stages genuinely reward quick play, and my enjoyment for them has only increased from each playthough. Every time I see anyone else play SA2 TH stages they just climb up high and glide in big circles for thirteen minutes in pumpkin hill, they actively avoid hint monitors because of the score decrease they give even when they're already guaranteed an E rank they'd rather pointlessly spend more time in the stage, a vast majority of the time the people who complain about TH they're actively not engaging with the game. I'd say SA2 radar is better than SA1, but story mode should have given you the SA1 Radar and SA2 Radar for the hard mode version, just to better ease players in. I played SA2 with both Radars and I find SA1 makes to easy, it feels like having training wheels on, the hints are straight up not needed with SA1 Radar. Plus collecting a piece out of order feel very rewarding.

>>36881 I've only really seen people say that they out right hate them recently. Back when I was a kid we loved them, we might nitpick about them gimping the radar in SA2. But that was about it.
>>36882 For me it depends on the stage. Some of the stages are so big and convoluted I can't enjoy them. But I suspect I just need to get better at them and memorize the layouts
>>36883 Honestly Mad Space is the only treasure hunting stage I dislike, Meteor Herd was better stage since you were always in control, Mad Space's gimmicks feel like they take to much control away with the constant rockets and gravity binding you to planets, shame since I love the stage visually, but I just can't get into it.

>>36889 Cool!!!
>>36881 I think you're right, but I never properly played them myself. As a casual treasure hunting enjoyer, I prefer SA1. I should do it one day. >These stages genuinely reward quick play This is the core of Sonic game design. Not speed, not momentum, not anything else, just the game and stages themselves being designed to reward playing quickly once you've mastered them. This is as true in SA2 as it is in Unleashed and Sonic 1. The games slow you down, but they're designed for you to find ways to go fast.
