Morning /fast/ >>17298 This reminds me: Have they ever confirmed that Boom was done?
>>17299 It's all but confirmed dead. As in, it's gone the way of the Sonic Mega Drive and Mega Man x Sonic comics. Silently discontinued. Aka, it's dead Jim.
>>17301 To be fair, the Sonic comics were at least announced to be canceled. MegaMan is just stuck on permanent "hiatus." Poor bastard
(720.21 KB 360x420 1406118743527.gif)

>>17299 They have no real reason to do that, leaving it unconfirmed gives them more options later down the line. What I find interesting is that some part of the Boom staff is still kind of hooked on it/on Sonic for some reason. They still actively shitpost on Twitter about the franchise.
>>17299 >>17304 They should just make a fan comic continuation like they did with the rest of them (if they're dedicated enough). This time, they can make it a darker shift in tone from the cartoon that actually portrays the characters as what they're supposed to be, maybe put in a parallel dimension gig where they end up in [insert favourite universe here] to [insert plot point here]. Honestly, you'd be surprised what a person can be capable of making with a Patreon Page and some support.
>>17305 I don't think a darker shift is needed. In fact, being more comedic is what I personally like about boom. After all, it is an alternate universe to the regular Sonic.

>>17305 >This time, they can make it a darker shift in tone from the cartoon that actually portrays the characters as what they're supposed to be, maybe put in a parallel dimension gig where they end up in [insert favourite universe here] to [insert plot point here]. Not that I don't get what's been said here as a person that doesn't nessarary care for the Boom timeline, but imo, I'd much rather it stay what it was. "Actually portray the characters" is meant for the main timeline, Modern timeline. I want the mainline Sonic characters to be less jokey, but Boom line could just be that for the group that likes McNoseHair Sonic. Boom fits that better for me for that purpose.

>>17308 I do think it would make the fanbase 1000x more hated if the design does end up actually improved, but until then, there's nothing we can do. If the design to everyone, not just fans, can say looks no better if not worst, then post like this really will look stupid. It's not wrong to not support what you don't want, it's wrong that the director/executive bigheads told the animation team to waste time animating a shit designed model for an iconic character.
>>17304 Not to mention, Boom still gets referenced from time to time by SEGA or someone on the social media accounts. Pretty weird, to me. >>17308 Honestly, as bad as the design was, I've always maintained that the trailer showed nothing really impressive or noteworthy when it comes to the actual writing of the movie. If the design is an actual improvement, that'd be great, but that wouldn't solve all the problems I had with the trailer. On top of that, I don't see how fixing a fuckup that should've never happened is something to celebrate
>>17310 The fact these posters only want validation (aka kissing up to feel righteous over others) means they are just social media trash that should be discarded for opinions.
>>17309 >it would make the fanbase 1000x more hated if the design does end up actually improved How so? >>17310 Yeah, you pretty much nailed what I think, spoiler included. The movie is probably going to be a mess for a long list of reasons, the most shocking and immediate one we have for now is the design of the supposed main character.
>>17312 >How so? How so? People hate the Sonic fanbase bro. Since the 2000s. It's either they are autistic furries or they never like the shit the dev teams shits out to them on a plate. Casuals just don't understand the ins and outs of the complaints of fanbases, so they just call it toxic and stick to a hivemind that "This is how their fanbase is" and that's it. Just look at the picture posted above, you're now a bad person because some soulless companion made a shit model and tries to "save face" to which if they fail again, it's going to be blamed the fans made it worse instead of coping with the shit they got. It's always blame on the weak, not the rich, it's always been like this.
>>17312 Yeah. Another thing I'm still hesitant to praise the movie on is that the film is less than a year away. With filming already complete & everything else, I really struggle to see how much they can really "improve" Sonic's design, since so much would have to be done/re-done with a very little timeframe for it to really mean anything.
>>17313 The trailer was in general hated by everyone and the games don't score too high either so I get the feeling the fanbase could get a pass on those issues these days. This guy I posted was just so evident it was funny, I wouldn't take that for a widespread opinion and if it does somehow become one, I'm gonna have fun mocking the people that have it. Anyway, my question was how is it going to make us more hated if the design actually is better? Do you mean if they change it for the better and we still don't support it? >>17314 On one hand I completely agree with you, but on the other hand, did you see that edit someone did that had Modern Sonic in the movie trailer? It somehow got done and it wasn't even a re render, so who knows what they could actually achieve in that time with the original files.
(95.69 KB 1044x736 1515135537872.jpg)

>Anyway, my question was how is it going to make us more hated if the design actually is better? Do you mean if they change it for the better and we still don't support it? I wasn't cctually accounting for that kek. But now that you meantion it, I honestly think it's not going to be a big stink but there's some people that are really up their ass about the design only being acceptable if it looks one to one to the video games (basically Sonic Unleashed intro). Which is just redicous, not just by logic of time and what it would take to at this point, but because of the clear direction the movie is taking. People that want Monder Sonic aren't going to watch this movie anyways. And they were the ones complaining about the designs, obviously. So I guess that's where that pic's post is directing if you think about it, but those people aren't even the biggest part of this fanbase. Most fans pre Adventure era don't care that much, post Adventure don't care that much, so I can only imagine it's the inbetween that has their only expectation to carter to the modern design the way it started. Ultimately, I think it's rational that, if they do make the design genuinely better, most would accept that and be pleased. It's the people that are loud and obnoxious about having Sonic look like the games is were they are going to call us out on, which isn't even the most of the fanbase, but people today don't understand rational thinking and generalize everything to a binary opinion.
(27.31 KB 384x384 D_Z7Jl4XUAA78P6.jpg)

>>17316 I'm really not sure where you're coming from. Everyone was calling the movie design terrible, not just a vocal minority of modern Sonic fans. It was a laughing stock across the entire internet. If the redesign ends up worse, people are just going to laugh at Paramount even harder, not get angry at Sonic fans. If it somehow turns out improved to an acceptable point, yeah, there are still people who are going to complain, but the only people who are going to care about them are virtue signalers and movie shills.
>>17318 >having to use an external website to operate the game Damn, seems like they went to great lengths to make the game playable again. >tfw want to play but concerned about the kind of info it's going to siphon out of my phone >>17316 >People that want Monder Sonic aren't going to watch this movie anyways I don't think Sonic fans in their entirety are the demographic for this movie. But given the trailer I'd think Modern Sonic fans are who they were aiming the most for. >Most fans pre Adventure era don't care that much, post Adventure don't care that much, You sure seem to have precise statistics about who likes and doesn't like stuff.

>>17319 > people are just going to laugh at Paramount even harder, not get angry at Sonic fans. If that was 100% true >>17308 wouldn't exist. We have many clueless people calling out fans for years when Lost World - Forces came out instead of blaming Sonic Team for making bad games, and the proof of the pudding is what's happening to Pokemon right now. I didn't claim no one but fans bashed the movie, that's retarded. I'm saying don't expect no one to not just blame the fans for making things "worse" if the design gets worse. The original trailer for the movie reveal in just 4 hours was split down the middle of like to dislike perception. The literal case of "mixed reception" of Sonic media. Afterwards it leans more on hate now that everyone gave their thoughts and opinions, but there's a voice out there that though Sonic wasn't "that bad". Those same people are likely >>17308 if they have to blame fans first over Paramount's imcompedence. This isn't a joke, do not undermind the perception of Sonic outside the damn fanbase. It hasn't been rainbows since the dawn of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)'s arrival. >>17320 I don't think Sonic fans in their entirety are the demographic for this movie. Well, of course not. If it was it would have just be a CGI movie with Night of the Werehog art design. No one is saying it isn't, it's pretty obviously the case. >>. But given the trailer I'd think Modern Sonic fans are who they were aiming the most for. Given the blue arms I think the issue here is that considering Boom's existance and what it was clearly meant for, since this movie has been in the works between 2 studios since 2014, it's clear it's learning on the remains of Sonic Boom than modern Sonic. Even the lankier perpotions would reflect Boom more than Modern too. But there' really nothing to go on for that outside of the blue arms that only existed as a design choice was when Boom happened. >You sure seem to have precise statistics about who likes and doesn't like stuff. I don.t Even if I generalized, it's the matter that every case of "Sonic design" should look like *Posts SA2 promo art of Sonic* makes it appear only they care the loudest. Not that classic fans don't (I do, SomeCallMeJohnny do, etc) or boost era fans don't either, it's because I or Johnny, and others I've seen on other boards aren't as caring because it's understanding this movie isn't going to give fans in game SOnic the Hedgehog. I'd rather not tranish the 90s depiction of Sonic after Mania happened, I'm just sadden Modern's depiction is yet again getting shatted on. And it seems that era of fans are the loudest group that's complaining as a result, which is why I made my "precise statistics" It's not spiting, it's stating what seems to be the case.
>>17322 You taking the opinions of a minority and mistaking it for the majority. People said Mass Effect fans were entitled for expecting the kind of endings the first game promised for the series, but that wasn't the general public view, just a minority of stupid people. People saying Sonic fans should be thankful and buy movie tickets because of the design change aren't the majority population. It feels like you have some kind of persecution complex over being a Sonic fan.
>>17320 >tfw want to play but concerned about the kind of info it's going to siphon out of my phone I never thought about that… Should I worry about this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw7jrQQK3Mc There's this other movie animated by Marza that's coming out this December. It looks god damn gorgeous, as is the standard with Marza. Given the closeness of the release dates of this movie and Sonic's, it's made some people think Marza might have abandoned the Sonic movie project. Literally nothing of Sega seems to remain in it. I have no idea what this other movie is about but god damn this trailer is so good I want to see more right now. >>17346 Hey fuck off I'm posting about movie stuff now, take your turn.

>>17347 >Hey fuck off I'm posting about movie stuff now, take your turn. R-rude… But anyways, I didn't know the Lupin movie was made by Marza? No wonder it looks so good But what makes you think Marza isn't still doing the Sonic Movie? I think based on how much CGI was even used for the movie I don't think most of the studio really needed to be on the project I think, but then again who knows…
>>17346 That was actually kind of fun to watch. >robotnik enters the scene from an elevator with the deal with it glasses oh fuck my sides
>>17349 I actually don't know, I didn't keep tabs on that, but watching the trailer it doesn't seem to have their name anywhere. God I wish I hadn't watched it again. >>17350 That's also possible, though it sounds a bit too much for Marza to be working on two full length movies at the same time, but maybe they could manage. Having said that, there was also another studio involved on the CGI part of the movie, which while also isn't named on the trailer, I kind of just thought and it fits elegantly that maybe Sonic Pictures' version of the movie had much more heavy use of CGI thus needing both studios and then Paramount came and most of the CGI was cut and Marza was let loose, so I'm going to baselessly stick to this theory.
>>17351 Fuck my life I didn't even noticed that shit, fucking lel.
>>17352 Maybe so. I never really thought of the fact when Sonic went to Paramount they could have dropped Marza. Imo, If this is true I really feel thankful they didn't have to waste time on this tripe coming from the legacy of Night of the Werehog and other post ShTH CGI stuff for Sonic. But it really does makes me sad Sonic didn't get the Lupin tier movie… But at the same time Lupin truly deserves this too.

>>17331 >>17355 [To whoever made them] If you want some criticism, the characters feel a bit "disproportionate" to the rest of the scenery. It's like it doesn't really go together. Like there's some kind of difference in details (or lack thereof). But if I'm the only one who thinks this, I'll shut up.
>>17357 It's the fact they clearly aren't natural as a living creature and their "characteritic textures" like what should be fur and whatnot makes them uncanny in realistic locations. But I just think past it now, Sonic has been in basically everything I just can't care how "out of place" he gets anymore. I don't think any other character has transcended his level in this field.

>>17366 >Is it legal what they are doing? I know SEGA's pretty cool with fan projects compared to the big N, but are there any Copyrights at play here, or did they get approval by both sides (original developers and SEGA)?
>>17369 I guess it depends on whether Sega sees it as a threat to current or near future commercial products. Or at least that's what they claimed when they C&D'ied Streets of Rage Remake
(89.19 KB 1024x1024 1524710745916.jpg)

>>17368 Not that I'm aware of. The only thing close is that Modern Sonic mod for Mania wish looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Speaking of Mania, god does playing with a Genesis controller feels just right. It's like the Gamecube controller for Smash of Sonic experiences.
>>17370 Imo this is the fairest use of C&D'ing things. AM2R died because Nintendo was making their own M2R. It seems like if your game got ninja'd like this, it just means a offical one is coming. Kinda feels less bittersweet in the end. It's when they C&D things period just because it exists and wasn't made by officials, then it annoys me when you don't have anything to show for removing it from the public like that.
>>17369 >did they get approval by both sides That would never ever happen, lol. I'm kind of surprised Sega didn't C&D this. It's a full game that Sega launched being relaunched by an unrelated 3rd party. There's nothing original added to this as far as I can tell, it uses all the same code, models, music, art, assets, and everything else that was on the original game. I don't think it'd be much different than fans redistributing Unleashed after Sega took it down from everywhere during that weird period where they took down their games with "below average" review scores. Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted by initiatives like these but in a way it feels kind of too much and too generous from Sega.
>>17370 Yeah. Not to mention people aren't paying for this, so SEGA probably won't go after it.
>>17373 Hmm, I thought self sustained games was ok if the game was long since abandoned and whatnot, but maybe I was wrong about that. Is TF Classic still being ran by Value servers?
>>17375 >but maybe I was wrong about that Yes you were, Copyrights in Video Games have been long since Disney-fied. Most companies will do anything to extend their copyrights (especially NIntendo) just to keep earning money from them. Even if it means destroying the internet. SEGA's one the softies compared to everybody else. And TF Classic isn't dead, it's still very much active and on sale: https://store.steampowered.com/app/20/Team_Fortress_Classic/

>>17383 oh fuuuuuck ;_; I dig the spikes on Shadow's wrists
>>17383 Aaand they ruined the surprise. I mean, this is cool and all, but what about actually reading the comic to find out cool stuff like this?
>>17375 >>17376 TFC doesn't have valve servers, all servers that host TFC games are public servers, hosted by people that have money. I find it really weird they are still selling it instead of making it free, it's a remake of a quakeworld mod that is now free software after all. >>17383 Badass
>>17383 Why didn't he fight it like Sonic does?
(342.93 KB 500x374 1525545154227.gif)

>>17383 Kinda disappointing. Not that the spoiled it because everyone saw it coming, it's the fact that… Wasn't the point of Shadow's… you know, creation in SA2, to be immune to infections? Either Ian's ignoring the thing that breaks his story (much like Sonic Forces did) or he's going to have to explain himself with this one. Like, Eggman thought of this and found some way to bypass his natural immunity traits. >>17387 Because the reason that Sonic can is (beside's plot armor) is on the bounds that Shadow doesn't run as fast as Sonic, he skates as fast as him. Which is just a visual technicality since it's claimed in sources like Sonic Battle he's just as fast as Sonic no matter what.
>>17388 >it's claimed in sources like Sonic Battle he's just as fast as Sonic no matter what. Pretty sure Battle said that Shadow is faster than Sonic, so in other words, Sonic a slow.
>>17389 I worded that wrong, yeah I remember it was something like that. And how SA2's animation of Shadow shows he can move his legs fast to the point I could see him fight it off like Sonic could. So this just feels like another Forces where Shadow breaks the story again. Which really does make Shadow look worse as a character when people do this imo, making him seem like a mary sue when I'm sure you can make his existence work without breaking key elements of your stories narrative driving point.
>>17388 Forces didn't ignore Shadow. They made him give up after encountering Infinite the second time and seeing the world being taken over. He later did join the resistance after they sought him out and helped them in their battle against the replicas.
>>17391 A lot of people found ways Shadow alone would have made the story end up far different if he played a part, don't be dath. Not trying to be broodish here, but if Sonic and some OC can just "win" after Eggman's rule over the planet, then how can the "Ultimately Life form "give up? That's OOC and stupid.
>>17392 Sonic was gone, Tails went missing, Shadow (and presumably everyone else) was susceptible to Infinite's illusions, and Infinite could make unlimited replicas whenever he needed. Sonic being freed and the Avatar joining the resistance and luckily picking the right route to Sonic on the Death Egg started a domino effect that led to the war being won, but there were plenty of battles being fought off-screen by the rest of the resistance up until the confrontation at Eggman's fortress.
>>17393 I don't care bro. Shadow and Sonic are equal to no one else. If Sonic can, Shadow can too. I'm not the only one in the world that disliked Forces' story/characterization, and I'm not going to justice that game's execution just because Sonic Team made it.
>>17390 What do you expect with the writers we have. Regarding the comic, let's see how it plays out. Maybe Shadow stood right below the face ship as it dumped the virus on the city or something. Sonic only got infected through indirect contact, by touching other infected mobians.

>Spent weeks working on rigging, looking up tutorials to satisfy my autism to have the rig the best it could be >All for a character out of many I still need to do Anyone saying 3D is easier than 2D can suck it. >>17455 Oof. Well hey, just keep trucking anon!
>>17456 >3d's technicalness is a huge hurdle Agreed, especially if you're trying to be a 1MA. It's no surprise large companies create 3D pipelines where someone does one specific thing
>>17456 I think that's not the part people refer to, only the posing afterwards. In most cases there are several models you can chose from so you don't need to fiddle with them to make a render. How far along are you? Can you post a render?
>>17460 If I post anymore than I have in the past I might spoil my plans. All I can say is I'm finished with the first character of interest rigging wise, it's just was a far more technical process then I expected. To make it blunt, people think just having "leg bone, spine bones, a bone to control the head, etc" is all you need to make a model work… But it's not. Although I'm not making this model in the intent of it being nude (it's just a base), to make every inch of the body deform and crease correctly in every spot, you either have to do the worst thing ever (weight painting) or you use dummy bones to make only the parts you want to control to work right. I guess I should say it's more tedious then drawing instead of harder, but it's still rather technical if you want a high quality model for movement that's constrained to move like a real human body would. This doesn't include clothing on top of the rig… which I have to start doing next now. I get I'm a novice here, but I at least get how much practice and talent the professionals did to get to where they are to just make stuff like vid related.

IDW #19 preview
>>17538 I think he he's hit about as low as you can
>>17538 >Do I have to apologise to trans-people now? Remember, regret nothing >>17540 To be honest they reveal too much(again) but oh well…
>>17539 I think I remember seeing a comic about this the other day, I'll see if I can find it later.
>>17543 If you do, post it here, I'm morbidly curious: >>11131
>>17540 Nice, I feel really stupid for not thinking about Omega from the last set of previews. I love Omega in this, really great. >>17542 Yeah, they're releasing like 6? Pages of previews per comic, that's a good percentage of the whole thing so it'd be hard not to unfortunately.
>>17544 It was just a mini comic though, like, 3 pages long, might post it here since it was so short.
>>17547 Well, at least the conclusion about them being compressed archives of compressed archives was wrong. It's interesting seeing the different changes in the technologies used but it doesn't really shed much light on how it's going to shape what's to come.
>>17540 I'm digging this new artstyle. Sonic looks kinda weird though, his head seems a little too big, but I might be looking too much into it.
>>17540 This is supposed to drop tomorrow, right?
>>17550 Yuh. If possible, I should be able to storytime it in the morning!
>>17551 Thanks in advance!
>>17551 Looking forward to it!

>>17544 Here's the comic I was talking about. Quite short indeed. Artist ended up making a second page about his OC.
(107.76 KB 380x490 tired deer.png)

>>17554 This is either zombie porn or was done by that DA artist that draws over the top anime shit on Sonic characters.
>>17556 I don't see any porn. What artist is that? Kinda curious to see now.

>halfchan's /v/ keeps range banning me >get fed up so I did some research >long story short; VPN is the way to go >Every app I use wants payment upfront to get any good ID address >Except one, that offered a 1 day trial >Tried it, found a IP that worked, got to post about Sonic stuff all day >The next day, now the trial is over >Still ranged banned again I just want to talk about Sonic guys… Why is halfchan's /v/ so bad now?…
>>17557 It's the way Amy is drawn, her shapely legs and body language is giving me mix messages. I don't know the DA artist by name, but they draw lots of Sonic chararcters, real and OCs, and other characters with over the top weapons in anime esque outfits.
>>17556 >>17559 It's definitely the latter. I recognize that stupid gun sign. >>17557 https://www.deviantart.com/skyshek/gallery/ Be wary of the autism. He's got official girls, OC girls, and girls from other series converted into Sonic characters, all wielding weapons that would make many JRPG art designers blush.
>>17558 I hate when that happens, it's an awful feeling when nobody knows you're there, muted, unable to do anything about it, while everyone else just posts away unhindered and without a second thought. Why are you going to /v/ to post Sonic stuff, though? Do they even talk about Sonic? It used to be pretty bad. >>17559 Oh, I thought I had missed a panel or something, lol.
(253.41 KB 386x419 1454307039718.png)

>>17560 Fuck, I was not prepared. I thought I'd find at least some more cool pics but there's barely any art of official characters.
(368.61 KB 500x375 1512395068228.png)

>>17561 >Do they even talk about Sonic? It used to be pretty bad. It's at least actual discussion of Sonic, or moreso, the state of Sonic, verse /sthg/ over there were they have gone full homosexual degenerate posting. It's honestly terrifying what that place became from the… year since I left. The last time I saw that place was mere weeks before the shitposter LCKun officially stated he'll leave that place for good. Whether that was the case or not, the damage was apparently done and that place has gotten far worse then I left it. I mean, I like this place, but it is the opposite of the board's name. So I end up having to go back to /v/ just to have something up to speed, but now I can't do anything thanks to their stupid random bans.
>>17562 I almost, almost admire the amount of attention the guy gave to make the weapons feasibly work. But they're all so impracticably dumb. It's like Dead Rising 2's weapon crafting on crack.

>>17563 >It's at least actual discussion of Sonic Last I remember /v/ Sonic threads devolved into lewdposting (rouge/vanilla mostly) in less than 20 posts and got deleted. Good thing that changed I guess. >It's honestly terrifying what that place became S-sounds nice. >I like this place, but it is the opposite of the board's name I know that feel
(70.53 KB 500x446 tewls.gif)

His arms, they just get to me
>>17565 I don't really see those blantent shitposts anymore as often thankfully, it's either something Adventure related or the clsasic games/Mania that gets talked about. TSR used to be but Crash fans (or imo, likely zoomer bandwagers) shittalk on Sonic and raid any and all TSR threads to spite them, its' really upsetting. It's like seeing those Smash threads about roster shitposting, which would include Steve from Minecraft with some creepy looking fan made model used to shitpost. That stopped when Banjo got into Smash for the most part, but that kind of behavior reminds me of it when Crash fans talk about their racing game being better than TSR.
>>17567 Let's be honest, TSR was a pretty poor showing. It doesn't really do anything better than S&SASRT, the team mechanics hinder the game more than they help, and there's a distinct lack of track variety that's nearly on par with Super Mario Kart. SRB2Kart is a better kart racer, which is kinda sad.
>>17567 TSR just seems to have dropped completely from the radar at this point. It's as if it didn't happen, I see no one talking about it anymore. I think they didn't even get to finish patching the game so that people could play online without issues.
>>17568 Well, that is true. It's jsut kinda sad you gotta see console warring over something that isn't even relevant to the company itself, just making fans look bad. But I do agree overall.
>>17568 It was evident from the beginning it was misguided and was going to suffer from it, but it's still a shame. The soundtrack was lovely, though, hopefully the outcome of the game wasn't too frustrating for Jun and the rest.
>>17571 I mean, considering that the game was made by a team of practical rookies (IIRC) & got a mediocre-decent reception, I imagine they're not too bothered by it. And yeah, people fighting over two franchises that aren't competing with each other is pretty lame, but I guess that shit happen when you have two games coming out at the same time that shares the same genre
What do you think of Fist Bump? Is it as good as the rest of the vocal songs in the series? Does it deserve a place between them?
>>17578 It's one of those songs that I wasn't crazy about at first, but over time, I've grown to love it. It's cheesy, but it is also catchy & one of those songs that just fits the nature of the Sonic series to me. Kinda wish we got a Crush 40 cover, tho. And I will admit that Infinite is a better theme
>>17579 Infinite's theme is so god damn good.
What's Sonic's 30th anniversary? 2020 or 2021?
>>17581 Do you mean when? Sonic 1 was in 1991 so 30 years from then will be in 2021.
>>17578 Pretty much what >>17579 said.
>>17551 Storytime starting now! >>17584
>>17558 It's been bad for years since I went there and only degrades as the years go by. A lot more people crossposting from other sites like tumblr and reddit compared to a decade ago. That site in general doesn't really carry the same notoriety it once had save for maybe /pol/, but which was also had a different tone over 5 years ago. >>17578 I liked when Egg Reverie incorporated it into itself but other than that, the song doesn't gel with me.
>>17283 >babifed Wisps because Mario Kart did this Wasn't baby Mario from Yoshi first? Or am I remembering incorrectly?
>>17598 Yes, but Mario Kart was the series that turned that as a roster padding gimmick. Most did just come from the Yoshi series, but why make baby versions of wisps for?

They're doing this thing in Japan where you pay and you have certain chances of wining certain items. You can win one of pic related things: a bag, badge, keychain, or folder, and it costs some 5 dollars to try. I can't believe how much they like Gacha shit over there.

>>17604 These are so cute. I wish stuff like this was released outside of Japan.
>>17605 Nice, I hadn't noticed. I need more pictures of Amy eating Ice Cream.
>>17454 >I have no idea what the original show is even about, but god damn I want to see it so badly. Essentially it is a show about a boy (voiced by the voice actress of kid Goku) who aspires to be a hero like how his mother was. He then gets a job at a shop that sells stuff to heroes, but they also get attacked on a daily basis by robots from Boxmore, a store owned by Lord Boxman (voiced by Jim Cummings, a previous voice for Robotnik)

>>17638 Don't blame Lost World, blame the idiots behind Forces. No, blame the idiots who won't put enough money for a new engine to be made that actually supports the game you're trying to make.
>>17639 I'll give you the last part. I really cannot not blame Forces without blaming LW when the people that made Forces was the team that made LW. The reason I blame LW is solely because it existed as a tie in to Nintendo. No tie in means no LW being filled with Wii U gimmicks.
>>17640 True, and also the fact that partnering with nintendo always ends up with them stealing Sonic Team's and Sega's developers.
>>17638 Call me retarded but what is it that's so much worse in the Forces engine?

Here's a clip of Forces to compare.
>>17643 Oh, I thought you were talking about graphics/lightning. Generations is much smoother, yeah. Though I think they would have had to make changes to the camera to port the map to Generations. I remember reading the Unleashed project had a lot of trouble with that.
>>17645 I heard it's the main reason after Unleashed 360 degree self camera control had to be removed from the boost games. Which really seems daft , and ultimately seems just dumb they couldn't find a solution around it.
>>17645 Oh, also, I love how the badniks explode into actual pieces when you destroy them in Forces unlike in Generations where you just bump into them and they explode cleanly. I hadn't seen this before. >>17644 They managed to recreate Sonic's visuals and themes surprisingly well.
>>17647 Well I'm sure it is in Generations, at least in Classic Sonic's gameplay, because of how Artsy Omni's channel pointing this out when they were working on their Bomberman remake.

>>17672 >Despite the disappointment over Classic Sonic showing up in the initial trailer, everything from the Project Sonic 2017 reveal had my so excited for the game in a way many other titles in the series didn't accomplish. I dunno, what did you guys think of the initial trailer? A: what was your last "hype" game before that point? B:Not impressed. I've grown to hate CGI trailers as it does nothing to hint how the actual game is going to play, and only further gives me doubt the game will be good. It's basically focusing on the theme of the game, to sell you on that instead of how fun the game with play, versus the fact of the matter how the game plays. Maybe I have Nintendo to blame for that since nearly everything they reveal is with gameplay involved in it, but after the years of seeing shit like LW and Forces, I just didn't care what Forces wanted to do, especially since I'm on the side that doesn't like overly serious Sonic. By no means am I all to happy with the forced Colors humor, but it's only got worse from Colors, rather than Colors doing the wrong thing after the disaster that was the mid 2000s for Sonic. I'd much rather get S3K to SA1 tones again, something with scope but don't make it all melancholy.
>>17672 I had a feeling it was dead on arrival as soon as Classic Sonic popped out. This game had so much potential, but they borked it like a half-assed fan fiction. I remember reading some fan comic on DA that had a much darker tone than the game where Sonic's insanity caves in tortured in prison, Shadow ends up fully framed as a War Criminal and Tails presumably kills Cream and her Mother (with Silver being the only real witness, and nobody believing him). It also had a follow-up after-the-war comic where they end up in a cave full of hallucinations (ongoing), but I forgot the names of both of them. I can't seem to find them anymore…

>>17672 >what did you guys think of the initial trailer? I thought it looked like a rush job, it wasn't as detailed or as good looking as the other Marza productions, but it did the job. Regarding the contents of the trailer itself, I thought it was great, I wasn't bothered with Classic as many people were, and thought something interesting could follow. How it was presented also contributed to how much I liked it no doubt, making me think Modern was pretty much dead given how they withheld the trailer and all hints of it until the very very last moment of the party, which came after years of Boom dominating all aspects of the franchise and then Classic, with no sight of Modern. So seeing Modern back again was terribly hype. Oh man, and what about the videos of the people at the party screaming at the top of their lungs during the initial reveal? I loved those videos. I really bought into Forces at first. >Is it wrong that I can't look at this without being reminded of how hyped I was for Forces before the gameplay came out? No, the same happens to me. I still find old files and folders from those times around my computer showing how hyped I was. I still have a folder or some files named "Forces HYPE" or stuff like that, so yeah. I remember going around the internet looking for fanart of the trailer and all… I was pretty into it, kek. I can't believe how much it ended up disappointing. >>17673 Not counting Sonic Mania (since both games were revealed the same night), I'd probably say the last game I was well & truly hyped for was maybe Generations, or Unleashed. >>17675 Kek, yeah. It's pretty interesting going back & remembering everything people was talking about when it came to Forces story before the game came out. From the "Tails is Infinite/Infinite was a friend of Buddy" theories, to the potential reasons why Shadow was on Eggman's side, etc. Even though the game itself disappointed, I can't say that wasn't a fun time looking back on it. To be honest, I'd still love to know what happened behind the scenes when it came to Forces development. Maybe it won't turn up anything, but seeing ideas from the game that got dropped, the concept art for certain things that got completely changed by the final product, as well as the restructuring in SEGA that took place makes me wonder if there was more to what happened than just "what was called Sonic Team being lazy."
>>17678 >Not counting Sonic Mania (since both games were revealed the same night), I'd probably say the last game I was well & truly hyped for was maybe Generations, or Unleashed. Huh, ok then. The way you worded it made it sound like it was many years ago, not 4-5 as of that given timeframe.

Things like the game actually being called Wars (which some other leak had predicted earlier), Aaron reviewing the script and criticizing it, Gadget actually being called Buddy, and I think an early script leaked too.
>>17680 Oh yeah, I remember the old leak about Sonic "Wars." Funny enough, there's a post on here from 2015 that leaked the Forces/Mania connection & Infinite being the main villain.
>>17681 Have you been digging through the old posts, anon? Also, what does everyone think of the Classic and Modern franchises connecting like that? Do you think it could work, maybe without having characters cross over like Classic did in Forces? I think it's a pretty neat idea but it's not viable to have the characters do what Classic did every time. It could be interesting to have a story that's explored from both sides of the franchise. Classic fans would probably hate this wouldn't they?
>>17677 IIRC they're archiefags
>>17683 Really? MugiMikey is a Archiefag?
>>17682 >Have you been digging through the old posts, anon? (197.14 KB 644x644 eggmuh.png)

>>17686 Well, going back to the aforementioned leak post, it actually had some other stuff & was apparently posted in March 2017 >Eggman wins >The new character will be created by the player >The villain of 2017 is Infinite >Mania is tied directly to 2017 >Flynn is writing And scrolling through I also saw some really neat reference sheets for Sonic X. I also came across a Yardley! Sally foot fetish pic, so it hasn't all been cool.
>>17688 Terios was fucking awful. Every time I see him I'm reminded how lucky we were to get Shadow.
>>17689 I feel the same way about "nazo".
>>17690 I've never been able to understand how Nazo got to be as big as it was/is given how it was born out of such a small reference.
>>17691 Hedgehog characters were, and still are, very popular, so a mysterious, silver (not "Silver", though) hedgehog with upturned spikes that only appeared for a few seconds in one teaser literally called "Nazo" as in "mystery" on the Japanese Sonic X website caught on like wildfire on the Internet. It wasn't until over a decade later that we knew it wasn't even a separate character. It's sort of like what happened with Infinite, only less memetic and ironic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkenRXh1odg Morning, /fast/ So apparently, some rejected pitch called Sonic: The Shadow World was recently talked about. Between this, Sonic Awakening & the Sonic Origins thing that was talked about, I can't help but wonder how many more unknown pitches for Sonic games the series had, especially around the 2000s
>>17678 >>17681 There's a theory going around that they spent the bulk of their time on creating the Hedgehog Engine 2 without Yoshihisa Hashimoto, its original creator leaving only one year or so of actual development for the rest of the game. Especially in regards to the Switch version since they even said as much that they only had one or two levels done for the Nintendo version until they "smoothly" ported everything else over at the end of development. >>17693 Wish there was footage of that ala Extreme.
>>17694 IIRC, that was actually confirmed in an interview not too long after Forces came out. That does at least explain some stuff, but I have no clue why SEGA didn't just delay the game until it was ready, unless they just wanted the team to move on to the next project.
>>17694 I'm pretty sure that first part was actually confirmed true by Iizuka in an interview. I didn't want to believe it was true when it was just a rumor but there you go.
>>17695 >>17696 Hivemind. >but I have no clue why SEGA didn't just delay the game until it was ready That would have probably been an issue, with it being called "project 2017", with the story being connected with Mania, and, well, with financing a development for 4+ years that honestly was probably not going to get much better. Eventually they probably also needed to get working on other stuff, they squandered 4 years on it.

So, there's been a lot of charts for people to rate the games they've played but I've never seen one so that people could show when they've played them and I'm kind of curious to see if other people are as scrubby as me and have such a bad record to them, so I made this poor attempt at a time chart so that you can fill it with the games' icons. >>17725 Dude, we're talking starting the franchise at three-years-old in the mid-nineties. The 2000's are a blur to me, can you imagine how well I remember the nineties? I can't even remember the first time I actually beat a Sonic game.
>>didn't finish Sonic 1 Because at the time I just didn't really care for it. Let my friend beat it for me while I watched, but I guess I just missed the spindash at the time and the more Mario esque level design outside of two levels seem to have put me off from it. I do remember playing up to the last level oddly enough, so I might have actually beat it on time ago, but I wasn't sure so I just said I played it but never beat it myself. >played Advance 3 first, didn't finish 2, and recently played the first one Picked up Adv 3 at a Gamestop back as a teen just because I saw it in the display case, along with me getting another copy of Pokemon Ruby for my foolish quest to complete my Emerald Pokedex. Never did. I got the one chance to play Adv 2 first though, on my brother's (from another mother) PSP emulator back in the day, was also how I got to play Super Mario RPG for the first time as well. Advance 1 was played on a emulator on my current PC just a few weeks ago, I posted about it not to long ago here actually. To this day I only owned and mostly completed Adv 3 on GBA. If completing it means doing those Chao collection crap, then I know I didn't finish it proper, but I remember getting to the not Sky Sanctuary level so I'm fine with that.

>>17731 I'm just saying, you should divide the chart into broader lengths of time, like half-decades, or just get rid of the exact spaces and make it more about ballpark estimates along a timeline rather than trying to accurately place each game at a specific point. You get too fine-grained and the only people who are going to remember which particular year they beat each game are the ones who started the franchise relatively recently.

Anyway, the way it is now you can still estimate on your end as best as you can, while being detailed with the games you do remember more accurately and it still allows people that have more narrow dates on their head to be as accurate as they want too. It's okay if it's not 100% accurate anon, just do as best you can and shitpost about other people's charts you know. >>17733 I think it's more distributed now than previously, though it was a bit more fun then because there was a timeframe where we were a bit more active. >>17740 They have been doing videos with papercraft on and off for some time for the social media accounts. Not the same but kinda.
>>17741 Neither, really. I don't really have any memories of Sonic until about 2010/2011 for some reason, I most likely never cared for the franchise because platformers fell out of popularity fast in the 2000s and it is a kids franchise after all, so there wasn't any incentive to pay any attention to it. Also, social media had only started taking off around around that time too (imageboards including) so it was more difficult to run into things you weren't looking for back then. I do agree that 2009 to 2011 were pleasant times to be a Sonic fan, shame I only got into the franchise at the end of that era and pretty much all I've experienced was bad to awful (the wait to Lost World (which turned out to be Nintendo exclusive!), the Boom era, the dry era (2014 onwards), and Forces). Well, there was Mania but we're not counting that.

Does anybody here unironically think that Sonic: After the Sequel is a good game? If so, explain to me why. I just played it yesterday and couldn't bother to get past Cyan City Act 1. The physics are so sluggish Sonic feels like a bowling ball. Most of the spectacle pieces in the stage I would get cut off at either because Sonic couldn't gain enough momentum to get past them most of the time or the collision detection would malfunction when trying to go up a curve or onto a 90-degree platform. The level design by itself isn't anything great either, and when the level tries to force a gimmick it was either something that I should've had the ability to do in the first place (sugar hills in Sugar Splash) or was a completely unnecessary joke and only slowed down the level even more than it needed to (the jester hat from Kirby in Cyan City). Does the game at least get any better from what I already played?

>>17804 Is this supposed to be Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic? Looks good.
>>17805 Both. I want to mix both elements together into one. >Looks good. Thanks, but excuse my perfectionism, but are you sure there's nothing that strikes you as "off" in any way? I already think there's issues that I want to touch on later.
>>17806 I think the spikes seem a little bit off, but they're mostly fine. Just look at the Unleahsed models for reference since you're aiming for those long spikes.
>>17804 The model itself looks good, but I would say that the height of Sonic's body seems a bit weird, compared to the arms & legs, which are great. It's not anything major, but I would say just shortening the height of his body a little bit would make it work perfectly.
>>17804 I think it's pretty solid but I'd say that: >the ears are too pointy and look too thin you could stab someone to death with them >shoe buckle should be longer and not so wide >socks should be narrower >legs should be wider near shoes, narrower near body, not constant diameter >belly patch should be a bit smaller and shaped like an inverted egg (wider on top if I remember correctly) >eyebrows should be more prominent >the area in between the eyes should be a bit wider and not so pointy I'm not an expert by any means though and I'm going from memory so take it with a grain of salt.

>>17807 >I think the spikes seem a little bit off, but they're mostly fine By "off" you mean how they are shaped or what? If its about how "pointy" they are, I actually want it like this for the reason I was never a fan of them looking too soften at the tips when the appeal of his earlier designs was being, well, a spiny hedgehog. See Generation's Classic Sonic and how baby soft his entire body looks. > Just look at the Unleahsed models for reference since you're aiming for those long spikes. Well, not that I wanted them to be long because Modern Sonic, I just didn't think shorter like classic Sonic looked good for a taller body. I was hoping it was between classic and modern in length, but I eyeballed this model from top to bottom without those 2D profile examples you see for character model creations, so I might have to import the official models later on if I feel I can tweak things. >>17808 I guess you mean how his tummy looks, which I kinda get. Modern Sonic's body isn't as round as his classic self, but I was a bit on the fence of making it look "humanistic" in shape which you can kinda see in Modern Sonic since Unleashed, so I wanted to keep it round, but it did become apparent it being oval shaped wasn't great either. Maybe I'll look at SA2 Sonic for reference, I think that did the body better than my take on it. >>17809 I'll go into each point in this in another post to keep this one from being too big, but thank you for the bulletpoints, I can totally tweak most from this. Also, here's some images I was using from reference, to get the picture where I was coming from.
>>17809 >>the ears are too pointy and look too thin you could stab someone to death with them I agree, it was kinda a rush job because I just added them in moments before I posted this last night. >>shoe buckle should be longer and not so wide Noted >>socks should be narrower Noted >>legs should be wider near shoes, narrower near body, not constant diameter Noted, but as long as it doesn't remind me of Sonic's model in Riders, then I'll consider it. I actually was trying to make it more like in his Riders 2D artwork seen here >>17812, where it's subtle, but it gets slightly thinner in the middle and wider at the body and shoes. >>belly patch should be a bit smaller and shaped like an inverted egg (wider on top if I remember correctly) Noted. Also was something that bothered me a bit as well >the area in between the eyes should be a bit wider and not so pointy Noted, but I'm going for classic Sonic's eye shape, I'm not the biggest fan of how wide they made that bridge on his eyes, especially in that one early model of 06 Sonic which was far too wide and f'd up his iconic eye shape. I want it to be one to one to classic's seen here >>17812, which I think I got really close to getting right, but I'll try to add back that bit of "frowning" to it Thanks for all the feedback guys, really appreciate it.

>>17835 Pretty cool, looking forward to some animations with it from you! >I won't be posting this anymore to avoid flooding the place with my autism not like we have anything else to do at the moment
>>17837 >>17838 Thanks. I'll post again when I actually have something brand new to show off. And to the anon itt that complained about the Captcha f'ing up on you, it happened to me just now too. Weird

>>17840 Was just going to post about this but post didn't go through. At the very least there's probably going to be some downtime in (I think) an hour, after Cloudflare stops providing their service (the site's DNS would have to be changed to point somewhere else too). Not sure what's going to happen guys, but it's been a pleasure posting along with you. >mfw this happens on Sage's birthday Motherfucker.
>>17840 I don't want to go back to 4/sthg/. I love you guys.
>>17840 Is this permanent? Fuck, what a time for this to happen…
You also can't post images right now, as it hangs on 100%…
>>17840 Seems we're going to be fine after all god please https://twitter.com/CodeMonkeyZ/status/1158202303096094720 >>17844 That happened to me. >tfw only wanted to shitpost about the OVA tonight as I watched it for the first time
>>17842 There's a bunker in case things go FUBAR but according to >>17845 We might just get through this
>turned out Sara was a brat I wasn't expecting this.
>>17847 Were you expecting proto-Elise or what?
Please, don't die.
>>17847 I actually liked that about her. It felt like an appropriate kind of princess for Sonic to be saving.
>>17848 Nothing in particular, but her design never gave me those kind of vibes and I don't remember seeing anything up to now that suggested it either, so it was kind of surprising. >>17849 too late, we ded, say goodbye, rip
>>17849 No worries anon, worst comes to worst, there's always alternatives
Finally I can say I watched the OVA. >mfw now I understand the OKKO reference in the water tank scene. >>17852 I don't think there are, at least not a viable one
https://twitter.com/ianjq/status/1158201144155369472 Sonic and Tails' OKKO references. Ben Bates and Hoshino were involved in their designs!

https://invidio.us/watch?v=l_5swslxkIA >>17818 >>17854 >>17829 Does the end of that episode with mad doctor getting flattened with the weight also look familiar to anyone? If it was deliberate, I almost can't believe they referenced something that obscure. Course, Mania did with its genesis manual symbol and sega popcorn machine references.
Are… Are we really back? Holy shit we're finally back ;_;

Glad to be back, 8bros.
I’m glad you guys are happy. I will miss you though.

>>17864 How about you look here more often then?
>>17867 I can if I remember, sure. Maybe I’d share merchandise when it comes up at the very least.
>>17868 Just leave a tab opened or make a bookmark. I love merch, I got a few items during the downtime, was thinking about asking if other people also got some lately. I got a Sonic blanket and one of those old inflatable punching bags, love them to bits!
this is kind of offtopic but if anyone wants to get rid of that annoying disclaimer in every post, add this to your custom theme css: small.disclaimer-8kun{display:none;}
>>17870 There's an option in the option menu too, it's working for me.

(45.57 KB 432x325 1455422766288.jpg)

>>17869 Hmm… I could do that, yeah. I’m looking forward to stuff in the mail but it’s not here yet. The last thing I got was accidental actually. A Fleetway book. Got it for a heavy discount. And I also got a keychain of Hanamaru and Sonic. Keeping my eye out on details the next few days, though I shouldn’t be buying any more stuff…
>>17874 Got a big collection anon? Do you buy a bit of everything or just interested in particular things like plushies or figures or comic books or something else?
(977.29 KB 300x300 1564184373929.gif)

>>17874 If you buy and share merchandise regularly, have you considered making an imgur or equivalent?
(120.94 KB 571x599 1558637147524.png)

>>17866 I missed you all too!
>>17875 My collection isn’t that big, ironically. Especially compared to everyone that I see on social media. It’s a bit of everything though, not necessarily comics though. Not attached to them enough to buy a collection. >>17877 I didn’t think about actively sharing in public. I have an Instagram but I don’t update it or speak all that much. Whenever I get things that are Sonic related I automatically go to 4chan. Used to be another app but I got carried away with 4chan to the point it’s my primary way of talking.
>>17878 Cute sloth. >>17879 >Especially compared to everyone that I see on social media Yeah, those people's collections are insane. Would still like to see your stuff if you want to post a pic or two sometime. What's your most prized collection item? >I got carried away with 4chan to the point it’s my primary way of talking. I know that feel, though for me it's about more about imageboards in general and less about 4chan.
>>17879 I see. In that case then all I ask is that when you're sharing images of your merch that you remember to share it with us too
>>17880 I got some animation cels in person before at a convention, I think that’d be considered the rarest I got in my collection. This year they didn’t have any that appealed me significantly though. >>17881 I appreciate that you’re interested in it. I’m actually quite excited for what I’ll be getting in the mail. Though, it’ll be a very long time before I actually do what it’s used for. It’s a knitting book with patterns of Sonic to make some ugly sweaters! I want to share that around because it seems pretty rare nowadays and I see no PDFs of it online.
>>17882 You should post scans of the book when you get a chance
>>17882 are you actually going to knit Sonic sweaters yourself like with yarn and stuff Is the book official?
(19.25 KB 221x162 1465771194751.jpg)

>>17884 forgot pic
>>17883 Definitely. >>17884 I wanted too. I even took a class to get inspired, but it was harder than I thought so I backtracked and did loom knitting, not Sonic related but my ambitions are too high too quickly. It is a vintage book from the UK. I bought it on Etsy for roughly $10 with shipping but it seems like the only way you can get it now is Amazon? And that’s probably $20ish dollars.
You're not gonna last a week retards. Can't wait for you to come crawling back when the post rate slows to less than 1/hour.

(59.49 KB 680x693 1496526617396.jpg)

So what did you fags do during the downtime? I lurked in the /v/ bunker while this place was down, there was a Sonic thread early on but there wasn't a lot of people in it and it ended up dying. I haven't really kept up with Sonic news pretty much at all during this time, with the exception of big things like the movie redesign that did spill over on /v/. I'll need to sit down and catch up.
>>17890 Mostly stayed in /m/ and various /vg/ generals on halfchan.
>>17890 I just went on 4/sthg/ once a day to keep up with fandom news and also got emails from TSSZ and Sonic Stadium whenever they post news
>>17890 I tried to lurk 4/sthg/ every now and then but it's not that interesting nowadays, besides some drawfags that show up sometimes and the comic dumps.

What's the bump limit now?
>>17895 I was just checking that now, it used to be 500 and it use to be rather lazy with that rule since it didn't exactly matter thanks to how slow the board is overall, but I think a fresh thread would be good to start the new life on /fast/ properly. So I think I'm going to make a new thread, then ask a question I want to ask in that thread for others to see easily. Baking.
(1.22 MB 847x1047 1438029341448.png)

>>17895 Still 500. Technically we've been over the Bump limit for 4 months.
(153.87 KB 483x246 1.png)

>>17896 Awaiting bread >then ask a question I want to ask in that thread for others to see easily Ooh, enigmatic.
>>17898 I'm currently having issues doing so, either my internet is slow (which it doesn't seem so) or the site is still buggy and won't let me submit. So it will be a moment I guess, I was having weird things happen to me yesterday when I migrated here.
>>17899 The site is quite buggy, it's totally possible you stumbled on an actual issue. The banners don't seem to rotate properly either. Haven't had an issue posting in already made threads, though. I'm gonna try to create a test thread to see if I can do it, will delete it if it does go through.
>>17900 Ok, thanks. If it goes through on your end, you can just make the new thread I guess. If not, we'll just have to stay in this thread until things run more smoothly.
>>17901 No dice, I get an error saying the server took too long to submit my post. It seems it's fucked for now… Fug, I really wanted the new bread.
(228.56 KB 960x960 Activated.png)

>>17902 Oh well then. At least we are back, that's better than nothing or what I had to deal with before. With that said, I guess I'll just ask the question here then repost in when the new thread happens eventually. So, the question is, what elements in past Sonic games do you like to most? By that I mean past game features you wouldn't mind returning in a new Sonic game, e.g, Chao Garden, etc. I'm currently working on projects that I'd like some feedback for.
>>17901 >>17899 >>17904 Refresh the main board page and try it now, please.
>>17905 Ok, I got it to work now. Thanks! New >>17906 >>17906 >>17906
