Welcome to /lang/, home of all languages! Student Board owner 09/08/2019 (Sun) 09:48:19 Id: dc127b No. 1 [Reply] [Last]
This board is a continuation of various smaller boards from 8ch dedicated to learning new languages, translating documents from one to another and overall just having fun with other anons in the ultimate pursuit of universal knowledge. RULES 1. Global Rules apply here. 2. English is the preferred language outside of threads strictly dedicated to a particular language. 3. Be courteous to other anons, as this is a (mostly) SFW board - if people wish to translate stuff that is kinkier than usual though I'll see what I can do with the site administration. 4. Any material that you have that could be useful to other anons, please, share it! Having videos and resources helps immensely! 5. Our bunker shall be located on 8chan.moe/lang/ but this is to be considered the main board. 6. This thread can be used as a META thread of sorts, so voice all your language related concerns here!

Tú no puedes aprender el español Student 07/16/2020 (Thu) 05:30:14 Id: 3dc1e8 No. 266 [Reply] [Last]
This thread is dedicated to learning the Spanish Language >Resources A lot of these are placeholders until we get some better suited purpose; please suggest any other resources you use or know about. >Flash cards https://apps.ankiweb.net/ - if you don't already have it, download anki for your flashcards. You can search through user generated, premade decks here https://ankiweb.net/shared/decks/spanish, but you can also create your own as you go along a different program >Dictionaries https://www.spanishdict.com/ - a multi-use tool for Spanish. Includes a fairly sized dictionary with pronunciation, a conjugation tool for verbs, and grammar lessons with quizes. It also has forums hidden away at https://www.spanishdict.com/answers https://www.wordreference.com/es/translation.asp - another dictionary that is slightly more expansive. It also has a conjugation tool and forums as well. It has more pronunciation and conjugation information for dialects outside of Castilian and than Spanishdict. https://www.wiktionary.org/ - an open source multilingual dictionary. In theory this is a resource for any language, but it is particularly good for learning Spanish. It has a lot of Spanish words, including obscure ones, and offers more information on dialectical differences in vocabulary than anywhere else. It also has a conjugation tool for verbs, and organizes them into conjugation classes well. >Learning resources https://studyspanish.com/ - Has a payed program, but offers almost everything besides some practice exercises for free on the website. It has a series of pronunciation lessons, grammar lessons, and vocabulary sets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_phonology & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_orthography pages containing detailed but technical descriptions of spanish pronunciation and writing. Not targeted to learners in the slightest, but very informative if you can undestand them. >What we need <More additional comprehensive learning resources, such as textbooks <Reading and listening material

As a native spanish speaker i barely know most of this shit, but i remember learning it when i was in primary school. So you guys need to memorize this, like the multiplication tables. The most important is indicativo.
>>267 ¿cual es la diferencia?
>>625 if you are a native then you should be able to guess conjugations without a second thought. except maybe shit nobody cares about like 'erguir' >>706 >seseo z, c before e and i, and s are pronounced like s (apical, laminal, or whatever your chosen dialect dictates) >ceceo z, c before e and i, and s are pronounced like z (i.e. the th in thumb) >lleismo drawing a distinction between y and ll. protip: very few regions pronounce ll right (it's the voiced palatal lateral approximant, the 'gl' sound in italian. italians got that one down to a t) >yeismo y and ll are pronounced similar to the y in you (it's actually more complicated than that thanks to the gorillion allophones for y) >sheismo pronouncing y and ll using the sound of the sh in shopping (i.e. voiceless palato-alveolar fricative) >'zheismo' (not sure whether that's the official name) pronouncing y and ll using the sound of the s in evasion and treasure (i.e. voiced palato-alveolar fricative) inhabitants of the city of buenos aires and uruguayans infamously known for having this trait ps: list above is not comprehensive. some other mixes may exist depending on country and region. tldr just pick a dialect and work on it.

My Chinese textbook says "nĭ quìxìng" I know its asking my name but wtf is "quì"? It's not anywhere in the books vocabulary lists!
For a start 'qui' isn't anything in pinyin. It's probably a typo and was actually 'qiu' or 'qu' or 'qi'. Second, 你 has the third tone not the first. Maybe ni q??xing is someone's full name, I'm too much of a noob to be answering your question really but this thread was last active six months ago so you might've been left waiting.
>>708 I see the third sound symbol in ni so I'll assume it's 你 Only thing I can think of is you confused g and q so it could be 你贵姓

Mezzofanti was well known for being a hyperpolyglot who according to Russell 1858 spoke at least thirty languages with rare excellence

What did you guys do to learn to type in Russian? I feel my brain is ripping in half. I started using https://www.keybr.com/ and changed the settings to Russian. But I am still having so much difficulty. I know reverse translate is a possible lazy option out of this. Also putting this here because I think it was what was in the now empty mega folder. I've been very slowly dabbling with this with some language app on my phone. Only 10mins a day for a while. Almost through the hiragana and katakana. Then moving on to simple words/phrases. Maybe then I can put in 30mins to an hour a day since I won't need to frequently look up what each letter means. >>68 I'm in too deep to stop now. I really wanted to learn Danish but as I acquired grammar I just didn't really see or hear any progress with the pronunciation, it's confusing at best. So I resigned and started to learn Swedish a few years ago, I've noticed progressed and I'm still at it. I still however like Danish more and I'll always love it as a language. flag feature test.
Learning Russian off and on for a couple of years. My biggest struggle is how long the words are. I feel like I will be able to listen, read, and speak well enough before I will to be able to write well enough.

any good french tv shows and music albums? i got to start consuming more stuff in the languaje
>>671 Can't say for TV shows because I don't watch TV but for the music : French chanson : Dominique A, quite poetic without being difficult to understand (I guess for a non french). Lately I discovered Zaho de Sagazan, nice modern pop with poetic lyrics. I can recommend some classic french rap, essentially through the Time Bomb collective if you're into hip-hop. The classics : Léo ferré (may be hard to understand, even for a french), Brassens, Renaud (you can learn some delicious old-fashioned french slang), Barbara. Also for the alternative scene : Les Ogres De Barback, Les Rita Mitsouko, Billy Ze Kick, Noir Désir, Camera Silens... Let me know if something in this quick list pleased you so I can recommend you more related things :)
