Hey man, what's up?
>or one that's been done a thousand times
Creation is finished, so there will never be nothing in the world that has not been done infinite amount of times across all possible existence for the rest of eternity, but you can enjoy what you like the most and it's variations. There are no answers, only choices.
>Which is what they are when you boil them down to the core.
I don't agree, that's pretty reductive. But i guess it's more about tastes than anything, in how inclined you're to give her games a deeper thought. I'm even fond of her first game, but even Nemlei herself would disagree with me in this one. Charming characters, interesting grim tales worlds, really nice premises, and deeply personal themes with a true optimistic outlook that get their point across, her stories are good fun all around. I found her message in agreement with my personal philosophy, in general terms.
>But if that's what you like then that's what you like
The thing is, the interpretation, or what we absorb from her stories, is absolutely opposite in each other perspective. We don't see her tales in the same way. Speaking of which, and to kill two dragons with one spell:
>This 'boldness' is just horniness overcoming fear with the help of pseudonymity and a secretly-willing initial female audience.
"Boldness" is way too vague. "Boldness" could be something like that videogame Hatred that was a serpent fart and just violent for the sake of it more than anything meaningful. The violence and cynicism in Nemlei games (in the way i see it) it's present to understand that characters can find fulfillment regardless of their "unconventional" ways of living. An outcast get split in two and end up feeling a new sort of loneliness from it, a cultist divided between his faith and his love for his only kin, a couple of dysfunctional lovers siblings that get torn between each other and even facing the actual physical hellscape in order to resolve their inner struggles, and all that, with the symbolism and metaphors, the "dream-like" settings, i could talk about it for a while (And i would try plenty to not end up rambling). It's understandable why this board would have a hard time getting into those tho, it's pretty much the opposite of what this place values, and it doesn't help that it comes from a woman. Speaking of which: About what girls generally write and read, i don't really generalize that much: Dorohedoro was made by a woman and was also a fun, violent ride altogether that i enjoyed in its moment. Wasn't the original God of War directed or written by a woman also? Maybe you're putting way too much attention in the shovelware of fiction and stating that "that's all there is to it", and indeed, in your experience can be true, but there's all sort of things in the world. Everything just exists.
>I don't care. The internet has produced far worse with much less effort in the name of "fan work".
I completely agree with that. I suppose my rejection comes from what i'm looking for and from being a fan of her works. It just doesn't feels the same, and i don't agree with the values that comes from it. Most of my reject may come more from making contrast than anything. It also doesn't help that the community for these games give a wrong impression but you just simply have to get used to that, it happens to every endevour under the sun, so you just don't mind and keep doing what you love.
And lastly
>I'm not really the type to go to fanfiction.net, or Ao3, or 'ruminate on my feelings'.
There are a bunch of amazing writers on those sites, but that's a subject that goes beyond the scope of what we can discuss here. Cheers.
