Linux Gaming Thread Anonymous 08/16/2025 (Sat) 11:06:33 Id: 42ff89 No. 1661379
Link to previous thread >>1103329 Archive of previous thread https://archive.ph/zwMB9 in case board archiving doesn't work. A thread for all things Linux gaming related, from problems one might have with running certain games, to how better gaming on linux is compared to windows. >What Linux can I get that Just Works? Probably SteamOS, or https://bazzite.gg/ as these were mentioned in the previous OP. Personally I use PopOs!, but I am sure even regular Mint or Ubuntu will work, after you install proton. >What about things that simply don't work on Linux? Then just dual boot with whatever version of Windows you need. There have been rare cases, where it was easier to install a game though Windows, and then import it into Lutris or Heroic Game Launcher.

>>1920418 Welcome to the end of this arc, where I ran sudo pacman -Syu on both my side machine and the freshly installed and setup main install. It installs conflicting packages with xlibre-xserver and bricks and any X11 DE's you have. I could not figure out how to remove Xlibre, so I've had to reinstall Arch Linux on two machines and reinstall packages. So tell the retard in the room, how do you make system backups so he doesn't have to go through this any more?
>>1920866 >>1920162 >rare linux bsod How tf did you even manage that. I'm actually impressed. I'd honestlt clone the drive and keep it around as a trophie.
>>1921270 >How tf did you even manage that. Basically, install Xlibre through AUR. paru -S xlibre-xserver-bootstrap paru -S xlibre-input-libinput paru -S xlibre-xserver Then sudo pacman -Syu When the terminal tells you, hey, there's some conflicts to install over, accept them. Then reboot. When you try to login to an X11 DE, the system will hang, and you can't even bring up the TTY. I got the kernel panic screen from rebooting, then selecting Arch Linux with Advanced Troubleshooting in GRUB at startup. Now I'm spitballing here, but I think this is what happened. So, what part of the Xlibre installation does is remove certain Xorg components and create symlinks to its own components. That's what causes the system to hang when you boot into an X11 DE, and those Xorg components that got replaced with symlinks then reinstalled per pacman -Syu are part of the kernel. And Advanced Troubleshooting leans on those, so when it receives a conflict like that, it panics.
>>1921343 ah, i think your right. >https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xlibre-xserver >Some distributions have meta packages installed for input devices and video drivers. In case pacman reports a conflict with these make a note of their names and uninstall them. Rather facinating. So just doing the normal arch thing causes a pop_os situation... This reminds me of when i used to use arch with openrc. Lots of fiddely terrible package dependencies that could break the system within seconds. Arch really isn't suited for hacking around the system like this, it's configs far to over reaching imho. attempting force it so puts you on a constant fight against the packagemanager. gentoo wins again
>>1920162 oh fuck I forgot about the plans to integrate a bsod into the linux kernel so if the kernel segfaults the user is greeted with this garbage I hope it can be fucking disabled because otherwise it means instead of me being able to read the fucking error on the screen, I have to scan a fucking qr code with a device I don't own to get any debug information, fucking stupid decision that I do not believe was not the influence of microsoft pumping money into the project
>>1925349 I mean, it's that or the relevant message scrolls offscreen and you can't scroll back up since you got a panic.
>>1921586 >This reminds me of when i used to use arch with openrc. Just use Artix Linux for that shit. It's designed to work nicely as a systemd-free Arch Linux that does OpenRC (and other init systems).
>>1787147 Shit like this is why GPL overtook the BSD license.
>>1929501 Arch-openrc edition predates and is what became artix. It's the same thing.
>>1787147 >winex/Cedega I actually had no clue this was a thing and now that i've looked it up i'm pissed. They really had lshit working long ago but just didn't contribute.
>>1936293 The difference is Artix's package manager isn't inclined to fuck your system up by pulling in systemd dependencies and shit. You were talking about getting fucked by package dependencies.
I am back and I have been tinkering and writing notes. I got multi-monitor gaming (sort of) working on Arch Linux. There's some xrandr monitor spanning command that I couldn't figure out, but you can use gamescope in steam's launch options to spoof a widescreen monitor and then use a bash script to size it and move it to span across three monitors. gamescope only properly works on X11, so what I wound up doing was starting to connive an autologin secondary session in Openbox based on some stray posts on leddit. I also ended up getting this working in KDE plasma-x11-session, but there you have to fuck with the window rules to set its size and position once it gets launched. Openbox notes for multi-monitor gaming in Linux (Arch Linux) (WIP) - https://pst.moe/paste/tezcku Sample Autostart script for Openbox - https://pst.moe/paste/jgxshr gamescope-positioner.sh (works in other X11 based DE's and WM's) - https://pst.moe/paste/ypvywm
What is a good virtual disk drive for linux mint? I am trying to get fakk 2 to work and its not going very well.
>>1954263 Nevermind. Linux mint can just mount images without a program. That is good but the game doesn't recognize my version of linux so it wont install shit.
>>1954263 Can't post my webms on 4owo.vg since maxime y trying so hard to fight 'ecker
>>1954263 >>1955708 Didn't mean to quote you but since I did you better use https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CDemu It has support for vast variety of images (mdf/mds, cue/bin, iso etc.) >>1954272 On most Linux distros you can mount iso images just fine with no additional software, but when you encounter cd/dvd image that has protection layers built in (cue/bin, mdf/mds) you better use CDemu.
>>1955708 you should kill yourself for even using that or caring enough about it that you know who maxime is
>>1957475 >you should kill yourself for even using that Are you talking about 'ecker or 4chinz in general?
>>1958037 The ecker. Considering you know who Maxime is you're likely part of le*o's pedo circle THOUGH
>>1958983 >Considering you know who Maxime is All I know is what notification on 'ecker told me when posting was failing.

>Think I'm done switching over from Wangblows to Linux for some months now >Even considering wiping my old drive to then use as a backup instead >Need to log in to something for work at least once a year >Fucking Keepass refuses to launch >Uninstalling and reinstalling through CachyHello doesn't help >Downloaded appimage doesn't do anything either >Downloaded appimage for version 2.7.8, which is before other people report a similar issue across multiple OSs >Still nothing I swear to fucking God if I have to boot into Windows again to access my old password manager, I'm going to have an anyeurism.
>>1962403 There's like 400 variations of keepass to try. Also run it through the terminal to get an actual error output.
>>1962403 are you running keepass or keepassxc? the latter is actually maintained and should be compatible
>>1962424 Keepassxc. >>1962418 Fucking DE froze while I was doing that and I had to reboot. keepassxc: error while loading shared libraries: libbotan-3.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Looking it up, I have to fucking roll back to some other version of libbotan somewhow, and then also do something else to prevent libbotan from updating?
>>1962496 Also checked my version of Botan. it's 3.9.0. Can't find just libbotan on the AUR. On CachyOS.
>>1962531 >>1962496 >>1962424 >>1962418 >>1962403 Got it working. Uninstalled it and installed the flatpak version.
>>1962572 Good. Use Flatpaks whenever available, anons.
>>1963169 I actively avoid them whenever possible
>>1964359 I use them for GUI applications on Arch only to have less moving parts when I update.
>>1964359 Hey thanks for the input.
Trying to get the extra buttons working on this cheap chinkware controller, Flydigi Vader 3 Pro, so I can use them as hotkeys. I can set it to "pretend to be a Switch controller" mode and all the regular buttons work, but the extra buttons just map to the d-pad that way. Following, https://github.com/ahungry/vader3, I got most of the extra buttons working, but it's still not optimal. Left three of the four extra grip/back buttons aren't recognized properly when I try to set them as hotkeys for PCSX2. The game knows I'm pressing a button, but the label for what button I pressed blanks out when I try pressing any of these just like it's supposed to when right clicking. However, the "home" and "guide" buttons are now usable as hotkeys which wasn't possible back on Windows, so I only really lost 1 button. I chose to sacrifice pause, leaving me with >State slot forward >State slot back >Save state >Load state >Fast forward I don't think it's worth it to fiddle with any controller remapping software that might let me set those back buttons to activate keyboard buttons now that I got it working this well, but it still really bothers me having three broken buttons. repost for typos
Is Garuda ok? Not a single post about it here, I've read good things online but then I learned its made by jeets
>>1926650 If the kernel panic can write to screen you can probably stick in some kind of scrolling functionality.
>>1977882 Wouldnt use it myself, far better options are out there if you're looking for Arch-based distros. >>1977882 >then I learned its made by jeets It's either jeets or freaks (you call them troons). Pick your poison.
>>1977882 No, the current meme gamer distros are Bazzite, immutable Fedora. CachyOS, arch installer. And Nobara, Fedora but it breaks every month.
>>1978614 >>1979131 Ok thanks, I'm slowly considering getting a new PC and dual booting into Linux now, I had the misfortune of running W11 on my work laptop after the initial update wave and its horrible, I don't want to use it. If its really as easy and sticking a USB in my PC then might as well. Have a rig with and AMD GPU and CPU ready to buy
