Racing games thread Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 01:30:48 Id: a6c605 No. 1105859
What racing games have you guys been playing recently?
I checked out this one, Stampede Racing Royale. Free to play kart racer where you keep racing and getting eliminated each lap until there's only one racer left. Seems alright but does the typical freemium cancer of trying to upsell you on skins and shit. Outside of that I don't think it's that bad although I don't know if it's popular or not.
classic arcade racers is a dead genre
>>1105859 I downloaded NFS Underground 2 and Most Wanted since they are abandonware. Been having a ton of fun with them. Are the modern NFS worth it?
God rest 8-player Daytona's soul Sega's arcade division knew they wouldn't be able to sell many units on this and that it would be expensive and require hella floor space but in typical Sega fashion they did it anyway for no reason other than that it would be fucking awesome. A special place in heaven for those rare arcade owners who have this and maintain the upkeep and floor space on them.

I've been playing WipEout Pulse, but I think I need to gold medal my last WipEout Fury event
dunno if this counts but i was playing destruction allstars and surprise surprise it fucking sucks, they really shoulda just reworked this into a twisted metal game but this is post-last of us sony were talking about so thats a pipedream haha. but other than that ive been playing midnight club 3 and burnout revenge, real solid games right there.
>>1105923 Yeah it's a dead genre until you realize the mediocre shit that is Mario kart is one of the highest selling games ever. The funny part is that the game requires 0 skill to win as you get rewarded with more powerful power ups the further you are trailing behind which is just as bad as rubber banding if not worse
Man, what I wouldn't give for a new burnout, ridge racer and midnight club Growing up with arcade racers being your favourite genre only to have them die is incredibly sad At least there's that new tokyo xtreme racer, I might check that out
The crew motorfest is my go to racer right now. Looks nice, handles well, cockpit view is great, it has motorcycles that handle great, cool different classes. Yeah its no midnight club but its still really good.
>>1105930 No, but all the games up to Undercover are at least decent. You should try the 90s entries if you want a change of pace from the F&F wiggercore era.
PS5 has nothing good. Waiting for Forza Horizon 5 to come out. Not long now.
>>1105859 What racing game is coming out this year?
(5.71 MB 498x276 lonely mountains.gif)

>>1105859 I have been playing lonely mountains downhill. Rather different but still fun and very exciting when you go fast. >>1270240 I so hope Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be good. It's the only one I'm looking forward to.
>>1270085 5 is 50% off on steam unless you meant 6. >>1270240 Airframe ultra might if lucky, and assetto corsa evo easing out of early access. As for playing, dr robotnik ring racers on and off, f1 24 since it was $13 last month, art of rally that I just got. Plan to get automobilista 2, le mans ultimate, and dirt rally 2 next when on sale.
I played Forza Horizon 2 on X360 and it's unbelievable how much of a downgrade that game is compared to Xbone. No DLC at all (which I admit is a good thing, fuck DLC but it's always been a staple of Forza games), graphics and lightning especially are really ugly, glitches and random invisible walls on the road, some parts of the map are different, some are completely deleted, and finding all boards is a pain and there's not a single completed map online for X360 version. FH1 was peak imo, imagine playing this shit after what's arguably one of the best racers ever.
The one where i race to your house to fuck your mom :^)
Need for Madness Re-lit, a quirky HTML5 browser game re-make from its original Java incarnation. You can either race or waste, you unlock more cars as you progress through the game, and you regain fuel or "power" through performing sick tricks in the air. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlQbv2bddLU Aside from replaying this thing in its entirety every now and then, I am trying to schedule a trip to a bigger arcade that has racing games. I think the one I know has two two-pair-booths of some Wangan Midnight arcade game. >>1105984 I never saw an 8-player Daytona in my country, but that sounds amazing. At best I saw 4 that can be connected together.
The only one worth playing this long. Sims are boring, even with a steering wheel, and most arcades aren't exciting.
>>1105859 Now that i think about it, burnout dominator is the only racing game i've played in my life, and only because it and some capcom game (had several arcade games in it) were the only PSP games i had until i was able to find someone with a modded battery to put custom firmware in it.
>>1333282 Lucky for you. You played one of the best racing games in existence.
>>1105859 Dirt Rally, I have a problem and I need to stop but apparently I cannot >>1105930 Nah, Carbon is already showing cracks, Undercover is a disaster because they fucked up the handling (you can mod it back now so it's at least an okay game to play through), HP2010 is good but not really NFS but closer to burnout with licensed cars then everything after that somehow manages to be worse for one reason or another, it's like they can't stop themselves from fucking it up >>1105923 Not really you just got a big release recently with the new TXR and there's a few small games that pop up here and there especially now that the indies have saturated the outrun clone, wipeout style AG racer and kart racer genre you start seeing other things pop up.
>>1332785 I went to Daytona International Speedway just to see if they had Daytona USA, and it was an 8-player setup too.

>>1716004 That sounds like fun
Is there a "best" version of Forza on PC? Anytime I'm in the mood for racing sims, I still just emulate Gran Turismo 4. >>1105984 I knew of two places that had them for sure, and they're both gone. There might have been a third arcade I've been to that had them, but I might be misremembering at that point.
Been playing some Gran Turismo 5 and some Dirt Rally 1 & 2, waiting on TXR to not be early access, I also replayed HP2010 recently and yeah still feels good but still not NFS >>1717443 >Is there a "best" version of Forza on PC? Not really the one that are still accessible are all bad and pirating older ones is kind of sketchy iirc as it requires specific windows versions Though iirc people have had great success in emulating the x360 titles even on modest computers, especially FH1 which apparently handles 120fps like a champ.
>>1717535 Shame. I remember a lot of shittalking about Forza Motorsports 8 at the Dorito Pope Awards back in 2023 because a lot of basic features were cut. 7 wouldn't run for me at all, and the one Horizons game I played it was 5, felt like a slightly more cartoony Test Drive Unlimited but with Current Year + 8 shit in it. The two things I liked in Forza over Gran Turismo was starting with the second game, where I could customize the car's aesthetics so it didn't look like I'm racing a car that came straight out of a dealership, and the fact that I didn't need to do the license test bullshit to unlock harder races.
