Project Zomboid Anonymous 04/19/2025 (Sat) 09:00:51 Id: 5b68f8 No. 1144753
posting on new board reminder that cdda is a turn based game therefore not a skill based game Why did this game suddenly EXPLODE in popularity a few years ago? PZ has been in development forever but it went mainstream very suddenly and I can't tell what caused that. What state is the game in currently? I last played a 2019 build until I got bored of it. Are NPCs finally in? I remember they were briefly in a test branch like a decade ago

>>1144753 >No curtains on the window You're just asking for zombies to break in.
serb?
>>1144753 I dont know whats cdda
>>1144753 >turn based games aren't skill based I don't know what cdda is but are you any good at chess?
any working dual wield mod for 42.2? any multiplayer servers for cracked version of the same version? and how do I permanently stop welcome/tutorial messages at the mainmenu/game start?
I hear generators break saves or delete items, is it safe to load a save from a month or two ago?
>>1176403 no, generators don't break saves, patches do no, it's not a good idea to load a months old save
>>1156520 if you want to defend turn based games don't pick the one that is literally a alzheimers check
>>1144753 >a turn based game therefore not a skill based game The cool thing about brainlets is that they sometimes say wildly unpredictable things like this. I find it very amusing.
Sorry for resurrecting such a shit OP from the Refugee Crisis. I have a few questions. Why did this game suddenly EXPLODE in popularity a few years ago? PZ has been in development forever but it went mainstream very suddenly and I can't tell what caused that. What state is the game in currently? I last played a 2019 build until I got bored of it. Are NPCs finally in? I remember they were briefly in a test branch like a decade ago
>>1152926 Think Dwarf Fortress, but for zombies.
>>1174740 Speaking of v42 beta, is it true that "one week before" mod has an option to turn off zombies and the virus entirely, letting you just live in a world of human psychopaths?

>>1590193 I don't know about zombies but you don't need a mod to turn off the virus as far as I'm aware, you can do that in the settings. I used to like roleplaying as a firefighter who, unbeknownst to himself, was totally immune to both strains of the virus.
>>1589965 It exploded in 2021 with Build 41 that made the game look significantly better. Currently it's still on Build 41 and will stay like that possibly until next year, because as you know these are the slowest developers in existence, who write about 2 characters of code every week. It's still boring and pointless. There's no NPCs. There's no dismemberment to make combat fun, if you're a master of the blade swinging a katana, they'll still fall over with the same feedback as if you hit them with a hammer. If you shoot one's head with a shotgun at point blank, they'll also just fall over with the same animation. Their heads don't get blown off (RE1 on the PS1 had this, with 3MB of RAM). There's still 1 zombie type. There's no tanks, IFVs, machine guns, grenades, rocket launchers, deathmobiles or any cool shit. It's all a joke. The fact this game is popular at all is the most glaring example of the shit taste of the average consumer and the most definitive proof that democracy doesn't work.
>>1590193 there's pre-apocalypse NPC mod afaik dunno what it's called tho AtomicDuck talked about it in youtube
>>1590239 people love games that have potential. Even if they don't live up to it in the slightest
>>1590239 If NPCs do get added do you think even a rudimentary story/series of goals would help pace the game into making the player engage with the larger world, and not just hide in a shed growing food on a roof? I know it's a survival sandbox but having survivors to aid along or hinder, raider camps to sabotage, or military checkpoints to break through all sound like they would add to the variety of encounters. Otherwise what would the point of NPCs even be, just other survivors to watch get killed on their own within like ten seconds of running into a horde?
<<1590239 Oh, I think I remember you! Angry because it's a survival game and not milsim autism. >>1595352 I think the issue with NPCs is how difficult they would be to implement in a game like Project Zomboid. At best, they'd be vendors or skill trainers. At worst, they'd be slightly more advanced zombies. PZ is a huge game with a lot of interacting systems, building NPC AI that could handle that and feel organic doesn't seem like a task a random indie team could handle. Actually good video game AI is infamously elusive.
>>1589965 >>1590239 PZ was always popular since inception, it had shitton of people making videos and streams about, popularity flares up ever couple of years with updates and such.
