Megastructure games Anonymous 05/25/2025 (Sun) 04:04:05 Id: c08af6 No. 1399332
Which games do an actually good job of imparting the sense of exploring a truly massive artificial structure? Which ones trigger your megalophobia?
There aren't any.
Dyson Sphere Program. Shadow of the Colossus, although one wonders if the Colossi are natural or artificial.
>>1399437 I’m checking out various recommendations and so far it seems like this is probably the truth. One thing I keep noticing is that the structures usually seem completely arbitrary, ie, pipes and columns which go nowhere, objects with no purpose, just randomly generated sprawl which has the opposite effect which being on a megastructure should have. It makes it feel like just terrain.
Subnautica, with the huge ship and the giant sea creatures. And kind of Outer Wilds? Back in 2014/2015 8/v/ had a lot of threads about the prototype, and Dark Bramble always scared the fuck out of everybody their first time visiting it.
>>1399332 VRchat does have some interesting maps to explore if you know what to look for
(127.62 KB 1600x900 20210619120024_1.jpg)

>>1399332 naissancee, i did not feel any 'megalophobia'
what about that game where you an anime girl with a chainsaw? is it good? I think there was another one where you are a robot with two ice picks that has to climb some megastructure for some reason?
>>1400932 >anime girl with a chainsaw Lollipop Chainsaw doesn't have any megastructures in it >I think there was another one where you are a robot with two ice picks that has to climb some megastructure Lorn's Lure? I heard good thing about it but it's in the backlog for now.
>>1399332 I really liked the giant levels in AC6, it's even better when you learn that they are at scale, and if you were to import them in Elden Ring, your character would be human sized, instead of AC sized.

>>1400948 >Lollipop Chainsaw doesn't have any megastructures in it It's called Motorslice
>>1401020 Ooooh, that one. I've only seen someone poking the girl's cheeks until she closed the game by herself.
>>1400950 looks amazing, too bad about the hitboxes
>>1401061 What's the problem with the hitboxes?
>>1401089 arent the parts where hes floating far above the surface caused by simple hitboxes?
I STRONGLY recommend. Isle of Eras. It’s only available in PS Dreams so if you can’t play it at least watch it on YouTube. It’s mostly a walking sim but it really goes for super-sized structures and settings and cosmic horror. Do NOT research it, just go play / watch it, trust me.
>>1401102 Nah, that's the modder activating some sort of noclip to explore the map.
>>1401109 i see, then i might try it out after getting both games
(70.12 KB 1280x720 flavortown going bankrupt.jpg)

>>1401104 Why Sony never brought Dreams to PC or even PS5 eludes me. Those "platform for games" games are huge on PC; Roblox, Fortnite, Garry's Mod, Doom (classic), DOTA 2 Arcade, all various degrees of huge. I could see a world where Dreams was a monster hit. Ports were in the works but had to be cancelled due to the 2023 Media Molecule layoffs.
>>1401104 ps4 or 5?
>>1400950 I like how AC6 puts human-sized infrastructure alongside the mega-sized stuff to give you a sense of scale. Everything seems like it has a purpose to be there and isn’t just randomly generated terrain.
There's a walking simulator puzzle game whose name escapes me. It has a distinct visual style (color-wise) and is based on entirely fractal geometry. The environments are technically huge, as they wrap around themselves perpetually. >>1399443 >Dyson Sphere Program. I dunno; the way it's built, I felt more a "miniature universe" feeling than having a real sense of scale.
>>1399332 >Which games do an actually good job of imparting the sense of exploring a truly massive artificial structure? Tower of Guns, sort of, it's only when you attempt "the climb" which is a secret within a secret that you truly feel just how big the tower truly is. >>1401361 >There's a walking simulator puzzle game whose name escapes me. It has a distinct visual style (color-wise) and is based on entirely fractal geometry. The environments are technically huge, as they wrap around themselves perpetually. Manifold Garden?
>>1402235 >Tower of Guns Just saw that for the first time, how did it completely get past my attention?
Peripetia does ok, maybe not quite mega structure but pretty big
>>1402235 >Manifold Garden Thanks, anon. Yep.

>>1401143 More focus on live service games!
>>1475763 Big Ryan fan, btw.
>>1399332 I only know of NaissanceE, it's free on steam.
Echo takes place in a megastructure, but it's rather more "atmospherically fractal" than it gives you any actual sense of scale like a megastructure would. https://store.steampowered.com/app/551770/ECHO/ Of course, the DLC of Outer Wilds takes place on a megastructure.
>>1478700 I don’t know if I’d call that mini ring world a megastructure, but I did appreciate the attempt to create something with an actual purpose. It didn’t need the dreamlands though — maybe they had to do it that way because their engine was too limited to include all the places they wanted.
I played the BLACKSHARD demo and it was awful You'll never get a megastructure game with actual gameplay

>>1399332 White Knuckle has touches of this. Essentially the whole premise is climbing your way out of a seemingly infinite ominous deadly super structure. Maybe not quite as mega or quite as exploratory as some stuff here but there are certainly parts with some real scale to it.
>>1486390 Lorn's Lure is a climbing game that takes place inside a megastructure. You only get a partial sense of scale (no grand vistas), but it's… gameplay. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1417930/Lorns_Lure/

>>1499260 New update with challenge maps has a pretty cool communication tower. You have to climb around the edges of all of the satellite dishes and put a disk in them.
Just stumbled across one I’ve never heard of before: Fugue in Void, although I’m not 100% sure it’s that’s not more of a Backrooms sort of thing.

>>1400758 Similarly to VRChat you could try Gmod. Does get me thinking, would anyone be up to explore some maps like these in a gamenight?
>>1399332 Well you posted Metal Garden already, so I'll just give steam links i guess. And there's barely anything, but you'll get one in the future with Hypogea. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1417930/Lorns_Lure/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/2330500/BETON_BRUTAL/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/265690/NaissanceE/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/2980260/Hypogea/
unironically, destiny 2 has some really nice raids and dungeons that has this megastructure vibe. Garden of Salvation, Last Wish, Root of Nightmares, Grasp of Avarice and Shattered Throne are some of them that have the players going through some absurdly big buildings/spaces going through both inside and outside of them the whisper and outbreak exotic missions also have this vibe. too bad everything else about the game is complete garbage.
This game takes place in an Alien megastructure.
>>1638734 Is it about dykes? I won't support games with fags. I won't even pirate them. I loved the artstyle of Signalis, but when I learned it was about faggots, I never even played it. Damn shame.
>>1638816 According to some redditor (not the best source, I know) it's demo has Signalis references so yeah make of that what you want.

>>1653100 Been seeing this game on youtube recently
I enjoyed exploring Black Mesa in the original Half-Life, if you allow complexes with a few topside areas
Ys Origin had you exploring one huge tower the whole game, which had a surprising amount of varied locales within it. Was cool.
