The Simpsons was really weird about vidya references up until like, the late 90s. I remember an episode Bart goes down to the local arcade to play Space Invaders clone. In 1995. As if he wouldn't be at home playing Final Doom on his PlayStation. You could tell the writers were boomers because their view of vidya was firmly stuck in 1977. To answer your question. the John Wick series has a couple of references to vidya. The two I know of are Payday 2 Easter Egg in JW2 and an entire scene inspired by Hotline Miami in JW4 sorry for the music I didn't add it

Nothing will catch you more off guard than this.
>>1440451 good stuff
>>1440451 Anyone remember what the Kill or Be Slaughtered mask is called? I actually have one because it was cheap (and it's too small to wear) but can't remember what on earth it was called. It's some off the shelf thing.

The show White Collar directly referenced RuneScape in one of its episodes. I've never watched that show, but I just saw a video on the reference. Apparently someone in Ready Player One also used an Armadyl Godsword spec during the giant fight scene at the end, but I scrubbed that scene and couldn't find it. I've been trying to compile all the references to RuneScape in other media that I can but apparently they're mostly in English broadcasts that I've never heard of before.

>>1440451 why are gaymers like this
>>1440464 Didn't know about the Payday reference, It's cool that the poster specifically shows Chains considering he and John are old friends in the Payday universe

>>1440434 Already posted elsewhere on 8chan, but please, go watch Hundreds of Beavers. It's not referencing a specific videogame, more like usual stuff that you'd see in vidya without ever referencing one. Probably the only one that is unequivocally referenced is Ocarina of Time. Gumball also has occasional vidya references, but one episode in particular is about the blue cat trying to impress a Space Invaders alien into letting him meet his uncle Mario and later Sonic as the punchline to the episode. Other than that, I recently watched One Hour Photo (fantastic Williams and cinematography but absolutely mid movie) and the kid in the movie was playing Tekken. >>1440464 >You could tell the writers were boomers because their view of vidya was firmly stuck in 1977. To be honest the Simpsons upgraded their vidya reference over and over throughout the years. I think they even made fun of Minecraft youtubers at some point.

The two main characters bonding over Shadow of the Colossus is a minor plot point in Reign Over Me. There's a subtextual aspect to the Charlie playing that specific game considering what's happened in his own life.

Here’s a reference from Robot Jones >Dot-Man <also didn’t one of his friends want to fuck pac-man and wear a pac-man shirt 24/7
>>1443199 >2 players playing FF8 >hammering buttons
>>1443541 Sometimes that's the sound engineer's fault. They want people to know a game is being played, so they fill the soundscape with clickity clack.
>>1443707 They're visually doing it.
>>1443541 >he never got the high score in Final Fantasy 8 2 player mode by mashing all the buttons with his bro during the Ultimecia fight Are you even a real gamer?
>>1443199 There was a show called "The Middle". One of the characters was called Kenny who only ever had his back to the camera and use to play PC games. I think I saw Starcraft 2 and Sins of a Solar Empire on occasion.
>>1440464 >Payday 2 Easter Egg in JW2 There is also a Payday 2 poster in Hardcore Henry, in the stoner's room.
>>1445083 And one of the Hardcore Henry characters (the coke addict) is a playable character in Payday 2. Man did Overkill ever fuck up the Payday franchise, (and this is going way before Payday 3)
Bump for more references to be found

There was this show called Drawn Together that was meant to be as offensive as possible, even more than South Park. Allegedly Gainax randomly watched an episode at a hotel, and that was the inspiration for Panty and Stocking. Each character was meant to be a parody of /co/ stuff like Superman and Betty Boop, but they also had a vidya representation who was supposed to be a parody of Link, called Xandir. For some reason, the creators of the show thought that the best use of his character, was to be as flamboyantly gay as possible.
>>1865343 >For some reason, the creators of the show thought that the best use of his character, was to be as flamboyantly gay as possible. To be fair the fanbase does that as well. The West is really weird with feminine men.

A surprisingly raunchy French kids cartoon called "Bunny Maloney" references Street Fighter a few times. Usually whenever cartoons or shows reference SF it's usually a version of 2, but it's interesting that they used the 3rd Strike HUD instead. Also, there's this scene from House of Cards.
>>1865563 Ha, true.
>>1865563 Was he really that effeminate? Keep in mind the show got released in 2004, meaning that the latest mainline Zelda game at the time was Wind Waker. In most games, he was mostly a child, with the N64 version being the most recent adult interpretation of Link at that time. What was really that effeminate about him? Being a natural blond? Wearing green? I mean Robin Hood, wears green in most depictions, and even in that one comedy he was still straight. The games are mostly about him fighting monsters with a sword and ends with him saving a princess, probably living happily ever after or something like that. So what made the fanbase associate him with effeminate men? t. never interacted with the Zelda fanbase
>>1865621 I think it's because people thought Link in OoT was an adult with the body of a 13 year old, making him a twink rather than someone you'd expect to be an action hero. Additionally I'd argue that a lot of video game protagonists were either completely out there in terms of appearance, so having characters like Link and Cloud really confused mainstream audiences in the 90s, although I could be wrong.

>>1865867 sounds about right
>>1865867 >the heroines are gorillas LOL
>>1865621 I think you are overthinking it. They wanted to make gay jokes, and they wanted to make a video game based character, so they picked a design that's "video gamey". The Link reference is obvious, but I think his character making fun the faggy JRPG protagonist design in general.
>>1865563 >The West is really weird with feminine men. Mental illness isn't to be accepted, yeah.
>>1865621 <fairy boy wearing a skirt yeah I don't know what made people think link is effeminate
>>1865621 The nips drew him with eyelashes so thick they looked like eyeliner.
>>1866090 That's not a skirt, its a tunic, and he's not a fairy, he's closer to an elf (but really he's just a dude with pointy ears).

>>1865621 They drew an unattractive fat Betty Boop, a psycho superman, a racist princess for a reality show parody, someone had to be the gay character on the reality show.
>>1865343 >>1866724 I remember hating this show when it was on. It's a shame because the premise isn't bad, but the writing is Scary Movie 4 tier.
(144.46 KB 522x381 codemonkeys_108_smbb.png)

The show was way too try-hard to be funny, but it did have a few moments - like making the one black character hyper-violent and Todd being a big riff on egos like Richard "Lord British" Garriot.

6683f0 here, ID most likely changed. >>1865647 I can see how the ear ring is a bit queer using both meanings of this word, but other than that, he is quite masculine especially with those muscular legs and arms. There was also the TV show, which from the random clips I saw on jewtube, Link was constantly trying to have sex with Zelda get a kiss from her. >>1865867 I have consumed so much eastern an western media, that I can look at both a very flamboyant, dare I say metrosexual, JRPG protagonist and a manly man like the guy from Gears of War and think both of them are 100% straight, no questions asked. >>1865975 >>1866724 Yeah, you are right, I am overthinking it too much. >a racist princess Was she really racist? From what I remember she started the show as the naive girl, who didn't know what sex was, but the showrunners didn't know what more to do with her, so she made her into a hardcore anti-zionist christian. She was there to bash homos, kikes and masturbation, rather than niggers. >>1866090 That's a tunic, very popular with ancient armies, including the romans. >>1866789 I watched the show in college, and I liked it for how raunchy and unhinged some of the episodes could be. It made of everyone from conservatives to liberals, from jews to blacks. I am not saying that it's actually good or that you should give it another chance, only that something like that could never be made in a post 2016 America. One of the more memorable moments for me, is when Captain Hero(Superman parody) got a gun to defend himself, even though he had super powers and was bullet-proof, and started having a God complex, just because of some small fire-arms. I don't know, it's just the idea of Superman going on a powertrip from something, comparably insignificant, like that. Oh and also that time he was wheel-chair bound as a self-inflicted punishment for giving Foxie brain tumor. Speaking of Foxie, I am not into black people or race-mixing, but there is just something about her that is... alluring, maybe it's just an example of hmfa. Did you know her van has a giant confederate flag on the roof? I don't think they ever brought it up, it's just a random detail. Some more game references from the show, from random clips I found on youtube, as I am not in the mood to marathon the show, just to find all game references in it. Technically, Ling-Ling is also a game reference, as he is just Pikachu, but he is mostly relegated to anime references and asian stereotypes.
>>1867864 >I am not into black people or race-mixing, but there is just something about her that is... alluring Nigger lover. It's the voice. Cree Summers does an amazing job making her both over-the-top black in a comedic way, and somehow incredibly endearing. She also did a great job as the voice of Medusa from Kid Icarus on 3DS.
>>1867864 >>1868157 >foxie I had a thing for her as well but I was really young when the show aired once I found out she's just a slut I immediately got bored of her, the betty boop wanna be was a fat cunt, the princess was boorish in every belief due to being a parody of a Disney princess she has a retarded sister that's hot. I guess? though said retard is more than aware since she fucks the superman parody
>>1868157 >Medusa from Kid Icarus She made my dick rise up like nothing else at the time, what a great character. The moment she stopped being the main villain I immediately dropped the game, I don't give a shit about some fucking evil businessman or whatever retarded fag they got to replace her, that was genuinely infuriating.
>>1868157 You are probably right that it's mostly the voice. I haven't played Kid Icarus, so I mostly know her as the voice of Number 5 from Kids Next Doors and Wuya from Xialoin Showdown. >>1868259 >she's just a slut I can fix her :^) Now for a more serious answer I never saw her as "waifu" material, and there is a difference between the attraction one feels for a qt 3.14 girl, and a slut. One is for marriage and raising a family, the other is that you know she is easy to get in her pants, so if you sleep with her, maybe she gets pregnant with your seed and thus your DNA is passed on. Apparently these are two ways in which the brain makes you feel attracted to certain women.
>>1868454 dude child me noped out on the bitch. Don't fuck a sow, just ain't worth the headaches if you DO knock them up.
>>1866650 Look, I know I wear a tunic but I'm not into men!
