A new publisher, Gameplay Group, is buying the rights to cancelled games in an effort to finish their development. Anonymous 10/11/2025 (Sat) 19:33:36 Id: d66e1a No. 1838305
Them's Fightin' Herds and Diesel Legacy are among them. https://archive.ph/bkQqV https://thegameplaygroup.com I was going to post this in minor news, but though it was interesting enough for a thread. Earlier they prematurely launched their games page, which has since been taken down, but it showed the aforementioned games along with others. Something about GG is it seems very different to other publishers, both in presentation and what they do. I feel this is ultimately a doomed company from the get go, but an original idea. Would (you) have any hopes for them?

Just want to say their mascots are also adorable

<snippet referencing Stop Killing Games Man I wonder how Ross feels about his direct impact on the industry, shortly before it launched I remember he discussed his fear that he was delusional with the campaign >Would (you) have any hopes for them? I demand the 5 cancelled Deus Ex games find a home, but that looks out of scope for these guys.
>>1838305 >Would (you) have any hopes for them? This REALLY depends on how much cash theyre willing to throw away to get the rights and how competent and knowledgable the developers are of these games
They're going to gay the games. Just like everyone else.

>>1838305 Neat idea, but from the top of my head I can't come up with any cancelled games I'd care about. Unless they also would include games that are in the void and stagnating, not cancelled just nothing is being done with them. I would like to see someone do fucking something with Thief, but wrangling Thief out of Eidos that does nothing with the IP would be impossible. The game only lives thanks to modding and fan missions.
>>1838305 I assume these are the guys named
>>1838451 It sounds like they were out of the industry for a long time to work in film, and came back to setup a publisher.
>>1838305 I hope they succeed with Thems Fightin' Herds? It was a really fun game that was canned before it was able to truly shine.
Best of luck to them

So the idea is to revive dead games, be it cancelled or just got their plug pulled. I like the concept, but I don't see what games they could pull from publishers or other groups. On one hand, it could be Prey 2, on the other, we might end up with a Concord rerelease.
>>1838342 Kerbal Space Program 2 is WAY outside their scope, too. Life By You, the Sims competitor that Paradox cancelled one week before it was supposed to launch, might be easier for them.
>>1838659 I'm convinced Life by You would make Cities Skylines 2 look stable.
this is giving me the same resonance as Embracer/private equity acquiring is a bunch of crap
>>1838616 Maybe they could get something from the companies who are buying ea, since it seems like itll be sliced and diced specifically for ip rights
>>1838305 >Them's Fightin' Herds I already want to see them go bankrupt.
>>1838462 >to work in film Confirmed marxists then.
>>1838776 Hey buddy yiff

>>1839266 OK. Do you prefer ♂ or ♀ eevolutions?
>>1839045 I fear it more as a potential revival of bronies than it being just more furry crap.
>>1838616 I hope they make Haze 2.
>>1839117 >>1839405 female duh.
(696.24 KB 1024x576 Versus.png)

>>1838305 HOLY SHIT, are we finally gonna have Final Fantasy Versus XIII???
>>1839928 I heavily doubt that Square Enix would trust a baka gaijin with Versus XIII. Shit, I don't think they trust themselves for this one.
>>1838684 Or maybe they can finish the AI military module for Project Reagan and we can finally get that Cold War successor game to Hearts of Iron. Seriously, I played the leaked Project Reagan and it works fine except for any AI decisions. Insta-crash by turning that on, so you have to manually do… EVERYTHING. From military maneuvers to factory construction, production, and distribution.
>>1839995 Have you seen current day Squeenix? >I don't think they trust themselves for this one What, you just started playing Squares games? They almost went bankrupt on three separate occasions for stupid shit; it's totally within the realm of possibility that they tell Crapcom to hold their beer.
>>1838305 >finishing cancelled games Isn't that just Piko Interactive's business model?
>>1840806 You are implying that someone at Square can make good decisions. They can't. The moment some idea is good for the company, the whole company turns away from that idea. Square is composed of tired old men addicted to gambling, and some tired old literal faggots. Both hate work, hate effort, hate having to obey customers and hate video games.
>>1838305 Not sure if a model like this is sustainable, a lot of games are cancelled for a good reason
>>1843512 While true, it looks like they're taking games that were cancelled for less than ideal reasons. Far as I can tell, Them's Fightin' Herds was shitcanned because the publishers were shitheads and got cold feet right around the time money was being pulled out of the industry in late 2023, also there was a lot of mergers and consolidation going around at their publisher's parent which probably added to the fuckery.
>>1841989 No, Piko Interactive buys licenses for ancient retro shit and rereleases it.
>>1844736 Sounds better, hope it turns out alright
>>1838305 I hope they do good work, but I have zero expectations for them until they actually release something. Until then, it's more likely that they're going to gay the games or just not do a good job finishing them. Also >>1838691 is a strong point that they could turn out to be greedy bastards or later get bought out by greedy bastards. I'd be much more confident if they were promising to release the games under open licenses so that even if they fuck things up, the game is still better off because of the acquisition.
>>1838305 Starting with two fighting game is already not an especially strong move, there's simply not enough willing audience to support them financially, but I do hope they make some good stuff, need more publishers willing to not go for the easiest money possible everytime.
>>1838659 >Life By You That game was supposedly an absolute disaster. I assume Gameplay wants to revive games with the chance of being a commercial success.
Hope they revive Scalebound
>>1852616 That would be a huge project and this group appears more interested in small teams that already had an advanced build.
