I think out of all games SIN has the best pistols. It feels good to use and in episodes it 1 hit kills most enemies with a headshot. It makes me wonder why other games cant ever have good pistols. I was playing Doom 3 earlier and the pistol in that game is genuine garbage. Only good for zombies and even then its pretty bad. I am trying to think of other shooters that have genuinely good pistols you would want to use past the first level and the best I can think of is borderlands. I was going to say Borderlands has good pistols but the pestilent defiler is a revolver and not a pistol. I kinda like the FEAR pistols since you can duel wield them and they feel kinda good to use. I am just assuming that they dont want the player feeling too mighty at the start. Obviously you cannot have the player starting the game with a handheld nuke but I think its a real shame that it comes at the expense of making most pistols useless.
Part of the reason I love this game. More games should be balanced around rare ammo, STALKER does this beautifully as well.

I love the pistols in Divine Cybermancy, they both look and feel cool. Not a pistol but the BK444 is in the running for best vidya revolver, the thing can take down a helicopter.
The fully upgraded A.J.M. 9 in Blood Dragon is also great, I love a good chunky machine pistol. It's obviously inspired by the pistol from Robo-Cop. On that note, the Auto 9 in Rogue City is absolutely great. I love the customization you can do to it, giving it absurd magazines or making it a mini machine gun.

>>1962386 While in general, that's true, it's still really dependent on caliber, body armor and distance. A rifle chambered in .22 LR or 9mm is going to do less damage than a 50AE chambered pistol for example.

Say what you want about the series, but the M6D made up for just how miserable the assault rifle was in the first game. Honorable mention to the Magnum(s) in Marathon, since dual wielding makes pistols viable again after you get more hardware.

The Specialists had amazing pistol gunplay. It's probably the only FPS where I'd choose to use pistols over other weapon types. In the 7.62 series, pistols are amazing CQC weapons. Again, probably the only tactics game where I pay attention to my sidearm.

Payday 2 is very flawed but I could bust one to the pistol selection. The only issue is their silly names.
