Vimm's Lair is kill Anonymous 06/08/2024 (Sat) 11:26:15 Id: d1540f No. 977113
<June 6, 2024 >Vimm's Lair has been asked to remove many games from The Vault on behalf of Nintendo, Sega, Lego, and the ESA. While most of these games (and the hardware to play them) haven't been sold in decades, ultimately it's their prerogative so these games are now gone for good.
This is why I never talked about Vimm anywhere, but ever since emulation became easier with smartphones you're seeing dumb normalfags openly sharing dump sites not realizing they're fucking illegal and any attention will get them sent to the farm.
This why I 'care' about what normalfags think and say. Not because to fit in or be a asskissker but rather you have to herd/protect the retarded or you get fucked over by their brainless whims.
Vimm has been around since 1997 and it only got these takedowns after Apple allowed emulation on iPhone. You cannot tell me there isn't a correlation between all those "HOW TO PLAY SONIC/MARIO/POKEMON ON YOUR IPHONE!!!!" videos and these events.
>>977140 >>977141 >>977142 >>977143 >FREE Retro Games on iPhone! >You can now play Nintendo games on your IPHONE?! <all the thumbnails featuring Pokemon and Nintendo consoles They really are this fucking clueless aren't they?
>>977142 >>977140 >>977141 >>977143 They've had emulators on iOS for over a decade, you idiot!
>>977146 All of those videos are from the past few weeks, when the App Store let you download emulators officially.
>>977147 >the past few weeks <See second pic: >>977142 >5 Secret Ways To Play Retro Games on iPhone! 2022
>>977149 Ah, I thought I caught all of those. I will now commit 17 sudoku puzzles in a row. The vast majority of those are still from April or later. You could always load emulators onto iPhones but that required a basic level of competency that drove most away.
>>977153 >Spoiler I never used the iPhone emualtors because the file system is an absolute mess to use, and the experience (When I emulated on Android previously) was always inferior to using my 3DS or PSP.
>>977113 Vimm isn't dead yet, but it'll be gutted. At least the 7th gen catalogue is untouched? It's all a little strange. The ESA aren't usually the ones issuing copyright claims. In the replies to the news, there's a split about whether this is the ESA rolling out AI tools targeting keywords or a Mexican shell company trolling. Either way, we can probably blame normalfags. If it's AI tools, the ESA is doing it to stop people from downloading titles from the most popular franchises now that the App Store is allowing emulators. If it's a troll, then the extra eyes on emulators brought on by the App Store allowing emulators is a perfect opportunity to farm reactions by filing false DMCA through a shell, something that's essentially unprovable without responding with equivalent legal action.
>>977146 >>977149 iPhone emulators were always for tech autists, they were never the problem. The problem is Apple opening up the floodgates back in April where most of those videos came from. He should have been more careful not to take the old videos but the point still stands. The thread's getting a little too derailed anyway. >>977155 That's the weird thing. As you said people think is this is all AI driven, but Vimm confirmed this isn't a troll. So Nintendo et al are out sourcing it to some shitty AI company. The only long-term solution I see are P2P torrents and onion links. "What about private trackers?" I hear you ask. God no, I never want to go back to dealing with the drama and powertripping of closed communities like that. Somebody in your node was an ass? Whoops now you've been booted. Fuck that, awful memories.
>>977144 >They really are this fucking clueless aren't they? Yes, but even if they weren't, it wouldn't change anything. They do not give a single fuck if they end up getting the sites they're advertising shut down. They just want the clicks and engagement. Remember to like and subscribe, shithead.
>>977157 >but Vimm confirmed this isn't a trol Not from what I saw.
>>977275 You know other sites exist and no matter what, people will continue to use them and continue to make them regardless of legality
>>977317 >Falling for it
>>977140 Imagine all the pajeets and spics who flooded google with "game rom download" searches and just so happened to chance upon Vimm or cdromance, bringing these sites to the attention of publishers leading to this takedown. Fucking hell man, 2007 ruined the internet forever.

>>977531 >Fucking hell man, 2007 ruined the internet forever. Why not go back, then? I wonder if a ROM/ISO serving BBS would work and stay under people's radars? Google wouldn't be able to webcrawl it - so at best, the general population would only get to the portal. It'd be pretty hard to navigate from a phone as well.
>>977531 CDromance or Nicoblog weren't really easy to find on jewgle in the past (dunno about now; especially since jewgle tries to prevent people from accessing piracy sites in the first place) Same for Vimm's lair. There's a reason why Nicoblog lasted as long as it did: it was hard to find.
>>977531 >Imagine all the pajeets and spics who flooded google with "game rom download" searches and just so happened to chance upon Vimm or cdromance, bringing these sites to the attention of publishers leading to this takedown <He unironically believes this Nigga just full of bullshit it hurts, Vimm's lair didn't even fucking appeared in Google to begin with, it was already a Niche site
>some games on some site get removed <anons acting like the sky is falling You guys know uh, there's like thousands of bulk torrents that contain all of these roms that are physically impossible to take down, right? The fact people are still using direct downloads for this shit in 2024 is dumbfounding.
>>977576 why did you hang up on me
>>977578 Maybe the real normalniggers were the Anons we met along the way?
>>977578 I suppose you're right. This won't seriously hurt anything, but there are three issues. >it's very frustrating to have such a useful resource for games damaged >this is a part of a wider pattern recently of ROM hosts being hit with legal letters >it's nice being a lazy fuck I already have romsets I collected over 15 years ago, this is of no issue to me personally. I just really hate this. If any of my PS2 dumps didn't work, which sometimes happened, I'd use Vimm as my go-to replacement.
>>977618 Except it's stupid that people are exposing themselves to litigation by directly hosting these files to begin with. One onion domain with a magnet link to a romset and it's literally invincible. It's the same sickness that resulted in yuzu getting ass raped. Constantly pushing the bounds of what you can get away with while completely disregarding basic opsec. We have every possible solution to these problems already, just fucking use them.
>>977623 Torrenting over I2P is good option.
>>977683 At least 5 different anime and cartoon streaming sites went offline this week alone all at the same time, we really need an I2P renaissance.
>>1010434 Torrenting should have taken over once megaupload died. People are to retarded.
>>1010435 People are retarded but constant pressure makes them less retarded when they realize easier options are gone. Like when there were stuffed trackers around akin to isohunt, btmon, torrentz, demomon and so on, but then they were all cleaned out so people had to search for new ones.
Forcing Apple to allow more apps and open the floodgates was the wrong course of action. Should have let normalfags own their walled garden and stay there forever.
>>1010434 Most of these sites were run by the same server and people m8, they were clone sites.
>>977140 To be fair, the owners themselves welcomed this attention.
