Ace Combat thread Anonymous 06/30/2024 (Sun) 07:58:05 Id: 9e3641 No. 984899
Finished all endings in AC3 the other day and I'm impressed with the sheer ambition and variety that this game has. Love the visual style and the various little touches like blinding lens flare when you look directly at the sun. Now I'm looking for some advice on the best way to play AC04 - which emulator, settings and game version should I use?
>>984899 Did you play the translated Japanese version or the botched western release version
>>984924 lewd the planes instead you fucking casual
>>984899 For AC 4, 5, 0 you only have the PS2 version, so PCSX2 as emulator, and I think Software mode was better than Hardware mode for these games, but I played them almost 10 years ago so things might have changed. >>984915 Considering he said "all endings" it means he played the JP version as the US version only had one ending. >>984926 Like this?
(70.12 KB 1280x720 flavortown going bankrupt.jpg)

>>984933 those are not airplanes
>>984935 They're Hugin and Munin.
>>984939 I think anon is saying that he wants mecha girls and not anime girls.
>>984915 Translated jap version. Was a bit of a pain in the ass to get the translation to work in the first place, ended up just finding a pre-translated copy and emulating that. Thankfully Retroarch made dealing with emulator itself easy.
>>984952 Oh nice, I played 4, 5, 0, 7, and Wingman before 3 and was wondering if I should play it? Does it hold up compared to the games I listed?
>>984963 I only played Wingman so far, but 3 definitely holds up. Branching storyline, unusual locations and a shitload of unique gimmick missions make it worthwhile.
I've only played the first two AC games, though the series is on my to do list >>984982 Any idea when the Wingman devs are going to return to life? I was looking forward to the update/overhauls they had planned, but then they went radio silent.
>>985076 They made deals with Sony to make the DLC PS5VR elusives
>>985090 I just want to know if hitman team is ok, by the dialogue sounded like the cascadians were pissed.
>>985090 Do you know if it was timed or not?
Think people are generally out of the loop. They shat out exclusive PSVR2 missions for the Project Wingman VR port https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUDk24qAlbo[Embed] Still a lot of on-going drama with their decision to sell their souls to Sony.
>>985161 If you read the after logs, it says hitman team survived and the cascadians killed all the federation soldiers >>985175 Nothing concrete, but I heard rumors of it lasting 6 years
>>985179 I don't think I'd care if not for PSVR2 generally being a failure. It has barely any support, so there's little any reason to buy it. Nobody's going to pay $1050 just to get access to Project Wingman bonus missions.
>>985161 If you complete the game on Mercenary you'll hear the Hitman team reporting their status. Ending slides also say that cascadians held up their part of the bargain. >>985181 I'm pretty sure the missions are exclusive to Playstation, not to PSVR.
Clarification, PSVR is only available on the new missions, not the whole game. Was one of it's selling points that the they didn't clarify in their media and store page.

I played AC3 whenever that came out on ps1 and I'm just now finding out about the vastly different japanese version.
>>985180 >but I heard rumors of it lasting 6 years Hope it at least paid well.

>>985076 Let's bring out ol' reliable and some extras.
>>985188 Is it so different that I should consider playing through the JP version even if I completed the US version in full?
>>985277 Yes, Japan has branching story, and some missions removed in the american version
>>985277 Yeah, same applies for the opposite situation, the US / EU version just plays better even if it lacks the story.
Not really Ace Combat, but I played a bit of Nuclear Option. Mixed feelings so far, the game definitely needs a more extensive tutorial covering every available aircraft and their individual quirks. I like the physics model and the in-game controls are quite nice with a gamepad, although the menus and map do necessitate using a mouse. A lot of jank in menus and mechanics not tied directly to flying - like the linear single-player missions still functioning similar to a full-scale MP war mode with economy and ground unit control.
>>984899 MA MAN. for AC 4 5 and zero you can play it on PCSX2 nightly version. all games run perfectly on Hardware mode. 1080p 60fps no glitches what so ever. >>984933 hardware mode is perfect now on all 3 games.
>>984899 What is your planefu? I have a certain love for the mig-21.
>>987135 I always appreciated the aesthetics of the Su-27, fell in love with it when I first encountered it in an Ace Combat game

Even after all these years. I'm so sorry Reina...
Is trying to shoot down planes with the machine gun in AC4 futile?
>>985179 Project Wingman was pretty fucking awful in VR from my experience. The developers chose entirely the wrong color pallet, and it makes me sick to my stomach. Aliasing is terrible, even with the highest AA settings, and the clouds don't look good that close up and aren't properly aligned between the left and right eye - causing fuzziness over the image. The whole thing was terribly unoptimized. Maybe they fixed up all that shit before releasing it to PSVR2 - but on PC, it was a pretty horrid experience for what at the end of the day is just a mediocre title that's only notable for trying to be another game. That said, does anyone know if AC7 has been properly adjusted for UEVR? It's been a while since I last looked into it, but there was still a lot of issues. Wouldn't mind giving it another playthrough, but I might just hold off until I get a proper HOTAS rather than trying to pilot a combat jet with a Cessna yoke.
>>987196 If you get good at it you can abuse it to shave seconds and reduce the number of resupplies if you want to speedrun/max point any mission
would anyone be interested in acecombat 4,5, zero stream tomorrow afternoon?
>>987135 I love the humble Su-25. Might not be the flashiest plane, but it carries a lot of ordnance and can tank a hit. The blue belly camo is my second favorite plane livery after the Su-57 pixel camo.

>>987135 I've always had a thing for the A-10 Warthog. Yeah she's an ugly and slow bitch, but she packs a big gun and is about as close as you're going to get to a flying fortress. They used to fly training runs over my house when the local AFB was still operational, and I played a hell of a lot of A-10 Tank Killer II back when I was a kid. Was always fun snaking between mountains just a few hundred feet off the ground and popping off SAM sites while staying under radar, or dropping a few cluster bombs on an Iraqi oil refinery on the way to strafe a column of armor that's heading towards friendly positions. It's an iconic plane, so it usually gets tossed into dog fighting games like AC, PW, or even Independence Day on the PSX.... but it absolutely is not a dogfighter and feels really out of place in games like those.
Prez a good.
>>987364 I want to know if she lives. She G-LOCs if you take her to face Crimson 1, and that was just in the first stage of the boss fight. Everybody jokes about characters not having blood in these games, but apparently, Prez never got the memo.
>>987604 She is now mentally impaired Would you marry?
>>987911 >not staying loyal to your cute tomboy wizzo in health and sickness True ending is she hits her head enough times and turns into yandere prez.

Switch port of Ace Combat 7 has been pretty impressive so far, I can tell the dev team really cared for their game. Image quality is slightly down with the lowered textures (game is 14.1GB there instead of the >60GB on PC) and some jaggies but the experience remains pretty much the same as I remember years ago.

Apologies for playing with the Standard Control scheme btw
>>988300 I mean… I should HOPE the Switch can run the game, given that my 2009 CPU and 2014 GPU can run it.
Quick questions, Ace 7 runs in PC the same as Project Wingman? Or is one more optimized than the other? I asking mostly because >60 Gigs and i have to wait for the expiration date of the guarantee of my Laptop so i can change the 256 SSD for another one, but in the meantime i hace Project Wingman running mostly fine in nearly 1080p, only with hiccups in the cabin camera
>>988351 I vaguely recall 7 chugging slightly more than PW did for me, but it has been forever since I played 7.
>>988351 Ace Combat 7 is way more optimized than Project Wingman. My gtx 1080 can run it at 4k 60 maxed out, but project wingman I can't run at 1080p 60 if I go above medium settings
>>988351 AC7's performance is consistent for the most part. That dust storm in that one level caused a mild bit of stuttering, but that's usually it. You might stutter if a bunch of AA guns pepper you, too. PW can have stuttering when there's a lot of railgun spam and those Cordium effects in the later levels. The final boss will cause dips to 40FPS or below.
>>987604 Ask the dev himself lol wingmangamedev@gmail.com
>decide to replay Project Wingman >two seaters only cause I missed all the Prez on the first go round >fighting some air cruiser the dumb way >get face to face with the thing with no time to react or adjust >somehow make it between the upper and lower wings >somehow killed it as well God bless UGBLs
