You're describing an insane amount of actual games. The only difference is you payed full price for them. It's clear that you haven't actually looked into any of these since Kancolle was the hot thing on the market.

MMOs have had "FOMO" too, anything with seasonal events that don't rerun the same shit every time is FOMO. Monster Hunter World did that shit up until Rise came out. MH Tri literally has parts of the game you can no longer play because they were online only events tied to the servers.
The gameplay of a lot of the games today is on par with games from decades ago, with very little actually pushing you spent money, because that doesn't get people spending. The market and the people have changed in the past 10+ years these games have been around. People now expect to not have to grind for months or pay out the ass to play them.
