I personally think this small change affects how people behave significantly. Maybe this isn't as big of an issue on slower boards but back in 4/v/, if you wanted to follow through with a conversation, you were pretty much forced to stay online. On the other hand, on traditional forums, you can log off, come back a few hours later, and your thread will still be there, so if you want to take a break from posting, you can do so without risking your thread getting bumped off. This simple difference is also the reason I think people who got into 4chan tend to be REALLY into it, because the nature of imageboards kinda forces you to stay online constantly to not miss out on the latest thing. Maybe someone should create a forum with all the convenience of forums like threads not getting bumped off and email notifications, but everyone is anonymous and you can't view each other's posting history.
