It's a great series, but that's why the lacklustre final stretch soured so many people on it. Wasted potential hurts more than mediocrity from start to finish. Expecting certain plot elements to manifest only for them to be hand-waved away with something underwhelming (Hiro's dad really is just socially retarded with no real plan all he's good for is tech development apparently, Hiro's mother is an absentee deadbeat who gave no fucks, the JO crystal is just a pocket pet, Dracmon died like a bitch, Lilithmon escaped scot-free if I remember right, the Angels were less plot relevant than the demon lord that wanted to kill them, blackies were a nothing burger, etc.), and the final boss being an adult to perfect level while also being told that something REALLY COOL AND IMPOSING is on the horizon but we're never going to see it was a total gut punch. I get that that the writer was stressed, but the plot seemed to be moving along quite nicely in the first half, if he didn't drag his feet until the last minute it could have moved along at a nice pace with development trickled here and there while still being a great episodic show. A mystery/horror show where the mysteries turn out to be mundane and the finale is played completely straight with a bunch of questions left unanswered kind of feels like tonal whiplash.
