I saw you were having some difficulties hosting the file via Google Drive due to copyright detection measures. I had some extra time tonight so I played with a solution. Shoot an e-mail to codexx@cock.li and if you're free this evening we can do some testing.

>>75 Oh, beer is definitely covered. By the way, is there some form of communication between anons watching it together on the platform we're using? I'd imagine it'd be hard to enjoy the movie with a bunch of anons screeching and cracking nigger jokes the entire time, so text would likely be best. I had that issue trying to watch the presidential debate with some friends the other day and I ended up muting all of them just so I could hear what was going on.

>>170 Are the streams still on cytube because our in house streaming is working well. I've been streaming a game and anime on it with no issues aside form my not knowing how to set up my OBS settings.
>>171 8chanTV streams can also be embedded in a cytube page. Main benefit would be custom reaction images in chat, at least until 8chanTV supports that. So they're not mutually exclusive. But it would resolve the Google Drive issues people have. The easiest thing to do seems to be using the OBS VLC Playlist source. Requires configuring some hotkeys for media controls, and you'll need to set it to scale properly, but once it's configured it should just run with minimal hassle.
>>171 >>172 I'm going to use it and test it out tomorrow's movie night, but I don't think I could use as a default because my internet is pretty shitty. Though If anyone here with a better internet connection and Friday nights to spare wants to host them feel free to do so. At least for the upcoming Holidays.
>>174 The only thing that bothers me is you can't actually change the stream quality at the gear icon. I guess that could be a problem for anons with potato internet or computers. Might still be an alternative though if google drive starts throttling more or something.

>>217 Glad to see the dude got his request through. Fingers crossed for Nightmare Before Christmas for the big day, though.
>>217 Jack Frost is pretty funny, should be good shitposting times. We could potentially add Eyes Wide Shut to the poll since it takes place around Christmas. Or we can make it wholesome for next week with A Nightmare Before Christmas and some rendition of A Christmas Carol.
>>222 Eyes Wide Shut is great and sets the mood for winter, but I don't want to experience those feelings on the big day itself. Hoping the day of can be mostly wholesome. We should watch this documentary: "Born from the internet, the phrase "TFW NO GF" was originally used online to describe a lack of romantic companionship. Since then, it has evolved to symbolize a greater state of existence defined by isolation, rejection and alienation. The meme's protagonist, "WOJAK," has become the mascot to a vast online community consisting of self-described "hyper-anonymous twenty somethings" and "guys who slipped between the cracks." TFW NO GF asks: How has the zeitgeist come to bear down on a generation alienated by the 'real world'? Meet the lost boys who came of age on the internet- places like 4chan and Twitter, where they find camaraderie in despair."

/vhs/ Game Night - The Engineer, the Plumber and the Duck Edition Falling Down - Super Mario Bros (1993) - Howard the Duck Friday April 2nd 5pm PST - 7pm CST - 8pm EST
>>461 Eh not the worse lineup. Last week was worse for sure. At least two of these are bad but entertaining.
Movie Night starting now
>>461 Jack asked for us to review the movies we watch so I'm reposting my thoughts now. Falling Down fails it's premise because it's just jewish propaganda to say angry white man bad. The Mario Bros Movie fails to capture anything from the games accurately. While it's world is unique, it's not Mario. If even the main stars were miserable, you know it's shit. Having already seen Howard the Duck, I can tell you it's pretty fucking weird. Not entertaining weird. Like imagine a drug fueld raunchy movie but with nearly all the raunchy elements toned down. That's the Howard the Duck movie. I guess the costume is cool but horrifying at the same time.
(206.57 KB 310x287 ClipboardImage.png)

>>461 Howard wasn't as unsettling as it was as a kid for me and just enjoyed it pretty well, a bit slow maybe in spots. I like the side story with Duvall in Falling Down and some of the scenes on their own. Mario Bros. is just a jumble to me, it's more interesting about its production than anything for me.

>>467 The wheel was a pretty good idea since the suggestions are quite a jumble to get through.
I love Falling Down, even if I disagree with the stated thesis of the creator. Super Mario Brothers was pretty boring and I'd describe the world as generic 80's gritty city. Dennis Hopper could have hammed it up more. So could Hoskins for that matter. If they had fun with it, then maybe it would be fine. Rebranding it from Mario Bros. would immediately upgrade it from "bad" to "mediocre", maybe even "alright". It's surprising how much it gets right despite making all the wrong choices. Howard the Duck was legitimately fun. What a strange trip. Jeffrey Jones was great until he became an alien, and Lea Thompson was great. Looking forward to next week, especially with Tremors.

>>471 Don't know if we're still giving reviews, but I'll pitch in. Tremors is a good movie and I can see why it started a franchise. Worth a watch if you like monster movies - Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon do not disappoint. Gremlins is also fine. I remember liking it as a kid, and it still holds up in my opinion. Nothing crazy, but nothing disappointing. The Apple War (Äppelkriget) was fun. It's a slow start, but once it gets going, it goes. Reminds me of Hausu (for the random shit) and Tampopo (for the mini-stories within the main story), but with more innocence and eco-terrorism. I didn't get to stay for Eight Crazy Nights, but from the beginning alone, the animation looked like garbage. Definitely looked like the creators of Iron Giant, but the dubbing didn't match the mouth movement of the characters. It also felt disconnected - maybe because it wasn't trying to look adult like Perfect Blue or Cool World even with the raunchy dialogue. Though my question is - is it up there in terms of Jack and Jill? >>482 The Lobster is a fun and depressing ride. Same director who did Dogtooth (Κυνόδοντας), but better in my opinion. It takes a look at romantic relationships in an interesting way. Anyway, hope people give it a chance.
>>471 I wanna do another review too. >Tremors Holds up as a pretty unique monster movie with great puppetry & animatronics. Lots of practical effects that still look great. Honestly I don't know how Kevin Bacon thought he was too good for the sequel. >Gremlins Loved the movie as a kid. Holds up slightly less when you think about it now though. There's the one shot where you can see a crewmember pushing over the Christmas tree as a gremlin attacks Billy's mom. Then there's the actual plothole that while gremlins reproduce asexually when wet they don't when walking or buried in snow. Snow is very wet. There's also no consistency on how levels of light harm them. Not a bad movie but definitely not as serious a monster movie it could've been. >The Apple War I..... I think I hate it. Because it's just so batshit bizarre & takes it all seriously. I was left so confused throughout the whole thing. >Eight Crazy Nights No doubt a terrible terrible film. It's a wasted effort of korean animators giving it all for an Adam Sandler ego trip meets raunchy comedy. It doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or a serious heartfelt holiday film. Ultimately it suffers trying to be both. There was really no reason for it to be a Hanukkah film either. Nothing about it has to do with the holiday. The humor is as low brow as you can get with a deformed midget getting covered in poop, deer licking said poop, & deer laughing so hard they keep pooping. Adam Sandler always does this thing where he's a loser but also somehow a Chad. It's not an underdog story so much as it's a self deprecating ego trip for an unfunny jew. I'm happy I could make others suffer with me watching it though. It's so shit but such a sight to behold.
(517.26 KB 935x723 8crazynights.jpg)

(67.65 KB 651x501 adam sandler.jpg)

>>482 >tremors great monster movie and it's a family classic. the practical effects are really good, about the same quality as Jurassic Park. if you get a chance you should watch the sequel is fun, I especially like the 2nd and 4th ones in the series. >germlins fun little spooky kids film for the holidays. its a little overrated. >the apple war it's a little slow at the beginning and most of the jokes didn't land for me.I guess you have to be a swede to get it. but it certainly gets crazy on the other half of the film, which I think saves it for me. it also serves as our Charon, crossing the brown murky river into the underworld of shit. >8 crazy nights oh boy. 8 crazy Night is probably the worst animated movie I have ever seen. adam Sandler is ripped even though he's some alcoholic. he also voices this furry old midget which gets annoying, the same goes for his wife, which she's actually worse. the songs are mediocre but not too offensive. the Hanukkah aspects of the film are nonexistent if it was changed into a Christmas film you'll change nothing. I'm surprised that Sandler isn't canceled for the chinaman which I give kudos for him. the humor is so lowbrow that it has a mustache. the product placement in this movie is so jewy that it should be banned for antisemitism. I'm also surprised that GNC never sued Columbia Pictures for making a character that represents them like a pervert. the only things that has it going through was where they all laugh to that little joke that captain hook told, it went long enough to be actually funny, and the /ss/ porn of the mom and her son. overall this Friday night was pretty pretty good. cant wait for next friday.
>>485 Who's the artist?
>>482 Alright a bit inexperienced when it comes to writing down my thoughts about a movie in a coherent matter, since I mostly just type as a think, but let's try anyway. >Tremors Nothing much to say here it's just a solid monster movie. The characters are believable with the main two having a good dynamic of banter and trust. The special effects here are ton notch and still look good today. Over all it's a good film if you're in the mood for a monster flick with some friends. >Gremlins Now compared to tremors I actually prefer this film for one simple reason, the creatures themselves. While both the graboids and the gremlins look great I find the gremlins more entertaining with their mischievous nature perfect for comedy and horror. The human characters on the other hand aren't as good as tremors. They're not bad per se they're just not as interesting and aside from the main character they don't really do much. One thing that does bug me about the effects is how early in the film gizmo doesn't quite move right, he moves slow and making it very clear that he's an animatronic being controlled by someone who was told to make him look scared but curious but lacking the experience to do so. They do get it right in the later half of the film though and the effect becomes convincing. I say this was the real highlight of the night. >The Apple War Had to tune out for the mass majority of this one. From what I saw and heard it was a weird nonsensical movie. >Eight crazy nights Oh now this film is truly horrendous. Where do I even start with this one, the unlikable main characters, the unfunny jokes, the refusal to commit to a sad scene and ruining it with unfunny gags? They try so hard to make the audience sympathize with Davey but his personality and actions make it impossible even with the reveal his parents died on hanukkah. It doesn't even make much sense, wouldn't the reminder of his parents dying turn him into a depressive drunk instead of a violent hostile delinquent? The joke themselves are nothing more than the standard fat people, toilet humor, and racist jokes you see in every sandler film except they're worse here cause the contrast between the animation and them make them feel out of place. They also keep adding jokes and gags in the worst places, why would I want to see an old man have a seizure in the supposedly triumphant climax of the film, why put a transgender joke when the main characters are reminiscing about their childhoods and how life was so much happier back then? They also stuffed a bunch of product placement in the movie for no real reason as all logos were used without permission and they only got away with it due to parody law. The weird thing is that underneath all of this crap you can almost see a good film. The songs are somewhat heartfelt aside from the tonal issues I mentioned earlier, the animation team much of which worked on the iron giant was clearly giving their all with what they had, and the premise itself could work in the hands of a better writer. If the studio were to regulate adam sandler to nothing more than an writing advisor and voice actor they could have had something decent on their hands, not good but at least something good enough to be played every year around christmas and hanukkah. Terrible film Great movie to make fun of with friends. Good pick golden >>486 Pandora's box, good luck trying to find his art though any search of his work is muddled with the greek myth
(57.20 KB 1242x863 wa8f3ersepf11.jpg)

>>487 An absolutely terrible film but indeed a great time with friends. There's just so much to talk about. Makes it as fun as watching a good movie together. Gotta put Gremlins 2 on the poll/wheel next time.
>>487 >why would I want to see an old man have a seizure in the supposedly triumphant climax of the film Because you're supposed to think seizures are funny and not serious, like Sandler's 12 year old audience does including me when the movie came out >why put a transgender joke when the main characters are reminiscing about their childhoods and how life was so much happier back then? Don't remember the joke, but the way you say it, it sounds like it makes sense. Comparing pure childhood to ruined present. And the product placement clearly isn't actually that. It's them trying to be "realistic" and make jokes about things that actually exist. That said, it does come off way too much like product placement, since there are so few jokes, or at least good ones, using the names and logos. Making the mall into some sort of holy place is fucked, and the symbolism of it was obviously awful even to 12 year old me. That said, it's a movie about a jewish holiday, so I suppose making the mall into a holy place makes perfect sense, and worshipping brands is just a part of that. I have rewatched the movie once or twice since it came out, when trying to think of christmas movies to watch with people. It's entertaining enough, I guess, but as you said, it's really just sad that such excellent animation was wasted on this movie that didn't need it at all. It's basically the last well-animated theatrical film ever made, aside from a couple shitty Disney failures like Home on the Range, Princess and the Frog, and that later Winnie the Pooh movie. It's simply uncanny to see such excellent animation in a movie where Adam Sandler plays a furry midget who has a bunch of deer diarrhea all over him.

>>493 Giving reviews for the movies since it might help bring traffic to the board. >The Bear The nature shots were nice, but that's about all I enjoyed from this. The message that "man is bad, nature should be preserved" is such a typical, bland message and wasn't even executed well. First, they humanise the bears in order for people to relate to them like dubbing the little bear to make really awkward sounds, which is a bit ass-backwards when you're trying to say that humans are bad. Second, the hunters I've met have always had conservation in the back of their minds. Sure, they'll go out and hunt deer, but they aren't going to tie down the deer to make it stressed also because that isn't beneficial to the meat and generally only go for shots that will kill the animal damn near instantly. Poachers are another story, but then some Disney message film isn't going to stop them. Third, the film had scenes that I can't see value in. The little bear getting high off of hallucinogenic mushrooms after seeing his adopted dad have sex with another bear - what was that trying to tell me? Not so horrible I turned it off, but give me something more nuanced as a message. >The Circle Worse than The Bear, but again, not so horrible I turned it off. Not really sure why this was made into a film - it was so dialogue heavy it was better suited to being a book or play. People blindly following whoever was talking loudest made no sense to me. Group psychology could dictate that you follow what a leader says, but then studies have also seen that, in anonymous situations, people are a lot crueler and are ready to inflict pain on someone else, such as in the famous Milgram experiment. At least it didn't end with the black fetus baby coming back and showing the white man what's what. The Cube is better. >The Lobster I'd seen this one before and I still like it. It is pure magical realism, which always grabs my attention when executed well. This device also helps paint a very clear portrait of the film's message: societal pressures on relationships. You have half the movie telling you your significant other must have the same defining quirk you have to be happy and being a relationship is the only way to be happy in life further stressed by the fact that, if you fail to fall in love in whatever number of days, you are turned into an animal. The other half tells you relationships are useless and only lead to major negative consequences like red intercourse. Yorgos Lanthimos also adds his usual innocence-to-violence spark in the movie, which keeps you on your toes. But I get the movie isn't your standard Hollywood affair. For that, I'm glad some anons stayed around to watch it.
>>493 >The bear Out of the three, we watch last night, this one is my favorite. despite the minimal use of dialogue, the movie really makes us care for the bear and his step-cub. the cinematography is great, really does look like it's been released this year. I like the little dream sequences they had with the bears. though there are some scenes i think should have been cut, as this would have been a great kids film. >the circle this is actually my second viewing of this movie and I found it worse than before. the movie's characters are only a bunch of stereotypes, which makes it predictable and boring. though i really liked the Wallstreet guy, it will be cool if he was an alien and started shooting lasers out of his eyes while laughing. >the lobster this was a decent movie. very funny and lot of the character reminds me of high school.

>>506 >Poison for the Fairies It was better than I expected. I think the face masking of the adults was an interesting idea, especially when used to shock the viewer when they were revealed. The ending was pretty brutal and completely appropriate, Veronica was a cunt, save the dog. The premise was interesting, but ultimately, fell flat. It felt like nothing was going on. My guess is since the focus was on the characters, yet the two girls had laughable acting at times and didn't really capture me, it ended up not working out well. Again, better than I expected, but overall, boring. >Theatre of Blood I've seen this one before and watched only a handful of minutes last night. It's typical Vincent Price and is pretty much a rip of The Abominable Dr. Phibes in premise. Personally, I prefer it over Dr. Phibes by a long shot and would recommend this one. >The World's Greatest Sinner Tim Carey's egomaniacal trip sums it up. Everyone was high on ketamines, including the editor with absolutely no proper flow between clips. It was a funny shitpost initially, but at the same time, hard to comment on since it's identical scenes rehashed over and over again. As much as I could laugh at the shitty editing, at some point, it was formulaic. I think there are better crazy films out there to laugh at, but this one was definitely a trip.
>>509 >>510 Called it.
>>509 >poison of the faries it was worse than I expected. it was starting to get interesting with the head of doll moving. but then it went nowhere, where maybe something spooky happens; buts that all few and sparse. i might have forgiven them if the atmosphere was least mysterious. but no, 88 percent of the movie was in broad daylight. the ending was neat I guess. >Theatre of blood When I heard this was a Vicent Price movie and saw the opening, I knew this was going to be good. I was right. you can tell everyone was having a blast while filming this. Mr. Price was always memorizing (especially this movie) in every scene in he was, cracking ironic jokes and what not. out of all the deaths , the one with the fat gay guy was the creepest. not because of the dogs (well that too) but because of the force feeding element. just messes with me. >The World's Greatest Sinner what a great way to end the night. this movie is probably the only thing we get to see what's inside the mind of Tim Carey but even then we don't get to see how that wacko tick. very much a bizarro version of the movie 'A Face In The Crowd' (if you haven't seen it you must, it's very good. even has Andy Griffith as the main character.) with its similar premise of a musician overtaken by greed, or this case the devil!. the editing what was that? I can believe the editor got an oscar after this. don't forget the ending. felt like Carey didn't know how to end it and just did this, just to make it mysterious

Slow-paced dialogue heavy samurai film, Child explotation horror animation, awful early 2000s teen gross-out comedy and nazi elves with detective santa. All part of a balanced diet. Just don't forget your barf bag. Special thanks to blam for providing us with Diplomaniacs (1933) for next week. Really appreciate it. See you fags next Friday.

Harakiri My personal favorite of the night. It's obvious early on that the protagonist is toying with the villains, but it's a unique revenge plot reliant on Japanese traditions which makes for interesting viewing. There were some okay fights at the end, too. Would rewatch or show to friends. Midori Pretty shit. It's like someone made a list of every shocking idea they could imagine and then decided to put them all in a movie, but they forgot you need a budget. A lot of them could have made good setpieces in a longer movie, but with no build-up there's no time for any of it to be meaningful. Could have also been salvaged by good animation. Van Wilder So boring I'm pretty sure everyone checked out after fifteen minutes. Couple scenes that worked okay, and it's not the worst generic comedy I've ever seen, but that sets the bar incredibly low. Can't recommend. Absolutely nothing here to take away. Elves Missed most of this trying to rip next week's film, but the first half hour I caught was hilarious. Most bad movies have a couple moments that makes you burst out laughing, but Elves manages to give you the giggles every couple minutes. One of the most absurd things I've ever seen. RIP Agamemnon. >>516 >Diplomaniacs Currently encoding. Will post soon. I've tried to avoid watching the whole thing and spoiling myself, but I've watched the first and last bits. Everyone's in for a wild ride.

>>513 Only reviewing the movies I witnessed (i.e. no Elves unfortunately). >Harakiri I'd already seen this movie, but watching it a second time, it gave me the opportunity to look around a lot more and notice small dialogue details (for example, how Hanshiro says exactly the same thing when arriving at the house of Iyi as his son-in-law, already hinting at the connection). Otherwise, the movie speaks for itself and I recommend it. On that note, we should watch the remake from Takashi Miike at some point because it's a different take on the movie and actually holds up somehow. >Midori >>520 pretty much summed it up well though I don't think good animation could have saved that shit, I was looking online for some interviews with the director. Quickly found one which is unsubbed on (((youtube))), so will try and look elsewhere. Otherwise, found a claim that the full version was actually destroyed and that the 48-minute version available is all that's left. Maybe that explains the incoherence in the movie. >Van Wilder I saw maybe the first twenty minutes or so, but I don't see how the movie could have gone up from there. You've seen one college "comedy", you've seen 'em all. >>520 Thank you for your efforts with Diplomaniacs. The plot sounds promising, so I hope it holds up.
>>516 >Harakiri even though i focused more on chat then reading the dialogue, i have to say this movie was great. the ending was intense. i don't know why but watching these old samurai films remind me of fall >Midori strange film. moves very fast which lessens the violence. thought the dog scene was predictable. the "animation" was much more like a slide show. it's also plotless. i think I'm in the minority, as i was entertained. >Van Wilder boring, predictable trash. the only good parts were the boobies. i took a shower instead of watching this filth. >Elves great Christmas movie, might show it to my family. but really this was fun. really liked Grizzly Adam Santa, pervert Santa and the guy explaining everything about the nazi elves to Grizzly Adam santa infront of his kids. >>520 Thank you blam for getting Diplomaniacs.

Apparently these prerelease skits are said to be better than the actual movie. If only I had known what would happen in the future.
>>539 Why does Hollywood give skit comedians full-length movies when they always drop the ball?
>>540 You'd think they'd know better than most of the hacks and products of soulless corps these days, but it seems that they forget that what might pass for a good sketch may not necessarily translate well for a full blown movie. I guess you could say the same for video game adaptations.

>>532 >Zeiram I thought it was good. the practical effects were definitely the star of the show. i really like the design of the alien bad guy was cool looking. But i thought the plot was uninteresting and felt by the numbers. the ending was cute though. by the way, what was with that cum demon that the alien spawned? it just let it exist for a bit and then killed it for no reason. >Diplomaniacs first I want to say thank you to blam for providing us this movie. this was a weird movie from start to finish but it's all so funny. the whole movie is like an edgier Ducks soup. it also has a blackface segment that was so left-field it just becomes bizarre. also that whole conference, really did felt like what the chat was having at the time. it's like the movie was self-aware or something. I almost fagot, this is a musical. which I thought the songs were good and probably listen to them on my own if I feel like it. that one song where they were saying goodbye to the Indians is very catchy, it's going to be playing my head for months. there's also one more thing I want to address about this movie. and it's this: it has some weird connections to WW2. for one there was that Swastika in the title screen. yeah i know some native American tribes used that symbol but they could have used a simple zig zag indian design for the rest of the background but they dident. there was also that ending, which im sure there was some that war was going to happen but still just strange. that's about though. maybe if I watch it again, I'll see some other connections or not who knows. >Miss March i actually thought it was going to about as bad or worse then Van Wilder. turns out it's alright. i mean it's not wkuk great but it's not that bad as i thought it will be. and sure, it's lot of the jokes you can see it coming but i at least i can say i laughed at it unlike van wilder. the only thing van wilder has over miss march are the boobs. which in miss march looked like those fake breasts you get at a Halloween store in the adult section. and that cuck ending it had. i didn't liked it.

>>532 I wasn't super focused on the movies this time 'round, dedicating about half the time reading the chat and half the time watching. >Zeiram I agree with >>549 one hundred percent. The effects were pretty damn cool, but the plot didn't capture me at all. However, I am interested in watching the OVA to see how it compares Iria looks like a qt3.14. >Diplomaniacs I was excited for this one, but again, didn't end up really watching it fully. I caught a few of the corny puns (which were very well done), but I missed out on the political commentary of the film unfortunately. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure this is my first pre-Code film. This means the film could get away with under/overtones of provocation, homosexuality, and "racism", which it obviously took full advantage. I'd give this one a more serious re-watch in the future. >Miss March It's about what I expected. I stay away from blockbuster comedies in general, and this one continues to show me that I'm not missing out on anything. >>548 Thank you for recommending the movie - would never have been something I'd watch. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
>>543 So what's the new voting system?
(435.98 KB 1414x2000 0d2331_7438786.jpg)

>>551 It's a 3-in 1 system. Since no one could agree with what voting system was the best Jack just combined 3 of them. The first one I missed because I was distracted by the movie, the second one is the tetris game Jack jokingly suggested, and the third one is just a choice wheel. While its not a perfect system, I'm sure this one will keep anons complicit while keeping the movie choices varied. I'm also excited to see how the tetris game voting system works out mainly cause If I didn't choke at the last second I would have won and we'd be watching gremlins 2 this friday
(65.19 KB 680x909 5f79a8e31a351725.jpeg)

>>552 So it's less of a fix & more of just doing everything at once..... great..... We'll get Gremlins 2 in some day. Since it's a movie people will like & not another pain suggestion like 8 Crazy Nights.
(51.40 KB 546x550 E0qKPg3XMAEwDUO.jpg)

>>553 I say just go with it gold, with an absurd voting system we might get more random movies with no advantage to bad or mainstream films like the poll or wheel. Plus I kinda like the idea of fighting for your pick in a game of tetris >That pic by MahmaPuu I swear gold 3 states apart and we still stumble onto the same obscure top tier artists
>>554 I just want some coherency! >you know mahmapuu You degenerate.
(2.47 MB 1000x1000 ClipboardImage.png)

>>552 I never said that's how the voting will be done from now on. If we did that only a few would get to choose the second movie since only the skilled ones at tetris would get a chance. We'll just do a poll in cytube to see wheter we use poalme, a poll there, the wheel or a combination of the three. Maybe we can do the tetris tournament once in a while but not always.
>>558 >We'll just do a poll in cytube to see wheter we use poalme, a poll there, the wheel or a combination of the three. You have to actually call the results within a certain time frame this time. Or else nothing will get done, again.

However, I make an exception for Forbidden Zone because it was done with the approval and support of the director, and he claims it was his initial vision but he ran out of money. It's well done and looks like old Technicolor process films as a result, similar to what Love Witch did. For a first viewing, I think it can go either way in this case. My first time was black and white, but I'm not sure anything is really lost or mistranslated in the move to color. >>592 >Big Trouble in Little China Great movie. I've wanted to watch it for a long time. The action and supernatural elements were pretty much what I expected but I wasn't expecting the comedy aspect at all and the comedy was actually funny too. [Current Year] Hollywood should take note: This is how you make a pratfall prone male lead that isn't insulting to the character or the audience. One another note, being that this is one of three movies responsible for the existence of Mortal Kombat I hope we can see Bloodsport and Enter the Dragon too at some point. >Outland A good but not great movie. If you had Sean Connery on this movie's set but with a better plot and better pacing then the movie would have been Alien tier, easily. >The Wall I missed the first 40 minutes of the movie but I had the audio on the whole time. >The Soundtrack: Great. 9.8/10 >The Movie: Well the Soundtrack was great. >Bonus Movie >My Little Pony: The Movie I didn't actually expect myself to sit there and watch the whole thing but it wasn't bad for a modern cartoon movie. My two main criticisms: 1. Despite having a movie budget they still animated the characters with simplistic Toonboom/Flash style that the TV show uses. 2. The main villain was really weak. Broken horn unicorn should have either just been the main villain or they should have made Storm King actually more threatening. They had no problem making the movie villains in little girl's cartoons actually scary back in the 80's so why not now? Even more inexplicable since Tempest was actually competent and threatening and had much more screen time. Creators: Don't neuter your fucking villains. If you are constrained by how scary you can make them at least make them serious and not buffoons.
>>599 >for the depraved What game is this?

That said, I don't love it, or prefer it to the original, but I do think every frame of the film has gorgeous art. I'll watch it in English sometimes just to soak in the visuals. Most films, the split second it takes to read subtitles isn't much, but it really detracts from something as frenetic and beautiful as Redline.

>>620 I should have but it just really really got to me to see people not even try to understand the film. It's not the most amazing thing ever but doesn't deserve to be disrespected like that. I seen Speed Racer. I don't hate it. The final race is hype. The problem is the CGI, like you said, but also the fact it's an adaptation of an english localization dub for an anime american audiences have no knowledge of. It's like Go Lion being only known as Voltron to the west or Macross as Robotech. >>621 That's Trigger for you though. It's over the top. It's undertoned with homoeroticism. A lot of their projects are. It's fine not to like it but to bad mouth the film as it's going without getting the full idea of what's happening is being a no fun retard. It takes time to get used to an experimental animation style. I totally get that. If you can't enjoy that right away then you need to pay attention to the story.

I re-watched Speed Racer this morning and I got to say It's an amazing movie. It's so over the top and cartoony yet so beautiful. A lot of people talk about how bad the CGI is (the most noticeables scenes being the fight on top of the mountain and the race in the desert.).I would say a bit outdated for today's standards but I can't say is bad with a clear mind considering how stunningly beautiful most of the races look, the enourmous attention to detail and some of the great special effects. The score being a plus as well. The story while not being anything new is handled pretty nicely and never gets annoying. The drama at least I thought it was pretty good. The cast also does a good job for the most part. Going back to the races, they are so dynamic and colorful. The tracks look spectacular and the lighting is top notch. Seriously, go back to watch that final race. It blows my mind how much effort went into it. This movie was made in the right time (2008). Do it years prior and you have lackluster effects (As much as I love practical, this couldn't be done with them.). Do it years after and Speed is black and it's made by trannies. It's just a great movie and I can't understand why so many people hate it or think is 'meh'. Most critics at the time complained about the lack of realism when I don't think it's trying to be that. I was so caught into the movie I forgot to make emotes but I'll do them later. That Friday was my first time watching it in 13 years when it came out and while I liked it back then I didn't think much of it as I do now. It's probably on my top 5 and while I also love Redline, I prefer this movie overall. Also it has a monkey in it so you know it's good. I also would like to mention the equally unappreciated PS2/Wii licensed game. It's a great racing game and has the same combat as the movie, refered to as 'Car-Fu'. I recommend checking it out.
>>624 It's made by tranny brothers though.
>>625 Yeah, but they weren't trannies back in 2008 I think.
>>626 True but they are now. I don't know if anyone brought it up in the chat since I was already gone but it should be acknowledged. Hell they even say The Matrix is a trans allegory now. Hope everyone's looking forward to the next sequel no one wants.
>>625 >>627 who cares it was made by trannys. if's it's good, it's good. if they say Matrix is a trans allegory now, so be it. But we still have the film trilogy originally as they were in theaters.

>>619 >>620 >>616 All films that night were all style with minimal substance (nothing wrong with that). TL;DR: I fucking loved Redline and Speed Racer (I came in expecting speed racer to be total shit and got my mind blown), but Promare was a huge letdown. It wasn't as bad the fucking crying game, but boy, did it try. The thing about films it that they often tell you what they are about in the first scene. Redline First Scene: Film establishes strong contrasts/conflicts. Stillness and movement, silence and music/noise. Even information given is often conflicting: the galaxy is coming out of interstellar wars (voiceover news narration) and the combat was replaced with racing. The relationship between combat and racing is first established here, but it isn't clear if it is a continuation of the violence or a replacement because the drivers do seem to be shooting nothing short of nukes at each other. In subsequent scenes roboworld opposes redline because allegedly, roboworld is ruled by pacifists ("roboworld is a symbol of peace" 17:30) this is another interesting contrast/conflicting info because roboworld is a militaristic planet (militaristic leadership, uniforms, development of weapons of mass destruction). In the end redline ultimately dismantles all their weapons, establishing it as a vehicle of peace, not a continuation of violence. JP has several contrasts/conflicts of his own: they call him sweet JP because he won't use weapons, unlike the other racers (26:40), but he dresses in leather and spikes. He also carries a switchblade, but it's actually a haircomb. Frisbee also has similar problems: he stuck between being a criminal and being a proud mechanic / JP's childhood friend. The heroine follows the same pattern of conflicting info: her nickname is cherryboy hunter but she actually has no interest in men whatsoever and is a motorhead junkie, still many of her scenes have her in sexually suggestive positions or straight up half naked. To further obfuscate the relationship between racing and war it turns out that many of the racers used to be army men (the crying guy, one of the two fellows who dropped out, the blue fellow that keeps getting his shit fucked up, etc.). The crying guy continues the trend: split between duty as army man and being a racer (he disobeys direct orders not to race because he absolutely positively does not want to be left behind by his old army buddy). There is even more conflicting information as the film progresses. When landing on the refugee planet next to roboworld, JP notices everyone is dirt fucking poor and the prices of everything are out of whack. Moment later we find the heroine and the rest of the drivers eating at a water-themed, high-end restaurant named oasis in the middle of a desert full of poor refugees. Machine Head is a great antagonist because his answer to his personal struggle with his own limitations and competing interests is to dissolve them by becoming his own car. He blurs the line between racer and machine; he has no motivation beyond racing for the sake of racing because he is essentially just a talking car. By rejecting his duality he stops being human. JP accepts the faults/conflicts of his friends and his lover and in doing so wins the race. His remarks about there being a time where each of his friends ought to be in charge is pretty much how he handles his own duality: there's a time to be sweet and a time to say fuck you (see the restaurant scene where he starts disrespecting a military offer with 7 guns pointed at him). The final scene, just like the first one, shows contrasts of stillness and movement, silence and music, but also love and war. All the violence dissolves into camaraderie and sportsmanship as the redline champion(s) are crowned in a sweet embrace. Redline is a film about contrast, a bold, giant fucking red line on a white canvas. Thematically, it always discusses the inherent hypocrisy of living/the duality of man. The end message of the film is essentially make love, not war. It ain't shakespeare, but there's some method to the madness/some substance to the style, even if it really takes the backseat because the whole film is primarily about GOING FFFFFFFFUCKING FFFFFFFFFAST Now onto Promare.
(247.66 KB 440x406 promare.png)

Promare First Scene: Fuschia/pink triangles are shown in contrast with black and white footage across various countries. Upright triangles are the geometry of fire (see protest signs in intro). I'm sure it's super coincidental and totally not intended but pink triangles happen to be a very prominent gay symbol (the only difference being that they're upside-down instead of upright). Allegedly they were used to identify homosexuals at concentration camps. I must be reading too much into it of course and this is all just a big (((coincidence))). Oh wait it seems fire is shown as pink/fuschia and light blue THROUGHOUT THE FILM. Super coincidental. Oh hey pink and light blue are the predominant colors in the palette of any major action scene through the whole film. Still just a coincidence. Main themes of the opening are segregation, oppression and genocide. This is evident not just from protest and arrests footage but from the news voiceover. A massive, pink/fuschia triangle flashes on screen before establishing the title. Do you get it yet? The burnish are homos. FLAMING homos as it were. Actually nevermind I probably just didn't take my meds. Let's talk about the next scene(s) White squares and rectangles turn pink/fuschia as the town is established. Windows are rectangular, buildings are rectangular and specular reflections and bokeh are rectangular (instead of round, as they normally are). There are triangles in the corners of the building but they are upside-down and blue (likely alluding to the dead queers that power the city, but this is a very minor point). The pharma company's logo is a blue square. The vulcan cannon used to fire ice cubes is squared-off instead of round, and obviously the ice cubes are square (and blue). The film is setting up opposition between squares and triangles, and it seems like there are no round shapes for some reason. To quote Prometheus (2012): "God doesn't build in straight lines", and this lack of circular shapes suggests an inbalance. I'll let you guess which of the two shapes represents government/corporate drones. On a different note, the rescue team the protagonist belongs to uses a raised fist as its symbol (see prome polis insignia, 13:22). It's another super big coincidence but that kind of symbol is often used in class-based struggles by communist/socialist/feminist/queer to represent "the good guys fighting the patriarchy/bourgeoisie". Now, let's completely ignore the fact the twink dragon dresses like Prince and has a clearly female hairdo. I'm sure his androgyny has nothing to do with the themes in the film: after all the japanese have no problem showcasing pretty boys because they have different standards when it comes to masculinity and beauty. I'm willing to concede that much. But now let's look at the literal first line of dialogue from the twink: "It's not our choice" (in response to why burnish burn buildings). Translation: "being gay is not a choice". No I'm still reading too much into it I'm sure. That's followed up with "we must burn in order to live"--translation: "wherever I go I must also pack fudge" Twink uses literally all the trans flag colors in his battle outfit and his regular outfit. The highlights on his face/clothes are PINK AND LIGHT BLUE THROUGHOUT THE FILM, REGARDLESS OF AMBIENT LIGHT. Dialogue closing first scene between twink and protagonist: twink: you are naked. protag: I didn't get naked for fun. twink: It didn't cross my mind. If that kind of dialogue isn't establishing sexual tension then you might as well suck my dick and say no homo. Now the "freeze force" team shows up. They use strictly black cars and use predominantly a grey/black monochrome palette. This is harking back to the opening scene and serves two purposes: it establishes the other firefighter team as the real antagonists (in opposition to color) while at the same time showing that the "rescue" team is actually allied with the burnish (because they too, are colorful and many of them wear triangles--Aisha has two on her shirt, for example). Suddenly the closed fist in the "prome polis" insignia starts to make sense. This closed fist is in opposition to the police, which is being portrayed as oppressors. Just so there is no confusion "prome polis" means first city. "Polis" has nothing to do with the term police. First time we see a round shape in the film is the pizza. Pizza made by a burnish that collaborated with regular people. Scene is used to establish protag's support for the burnish. Protag gets a square medal. For the rest of the scene "they can't help themselves, they're just born that way and aren't necessarily evil it's just a question of how they handle their identity". In the "almost" kiss scene between the protagonist and Aisha/Aina, he drops her on her ass as he sees a pink and blue flame across the sky. "Sorry honey, I'm fabulous." I know what you're thinking "NO THAT'S NOT IT AT ALL YOU'RE MAKING IT ALL UP AGAIN LALALALALA THIS IS A COOL FILM FOR COOL GUYS". Please consider the following: He will never kiss Aisha during the film, and as a matter of fact she never plays much of a role after that scene. The protag will share his first kiss with the twink, though, and emphasize how "for the first time in my life I lit a fire, because of you!". Oh but it was just CPR I'm looking to much into it as per usual. It was a really long CPR shot (almost half the fucking scene) but yeah okay CPR takes time man, you gotta put your tongue in there and give the fellow a reach-around or it doesn't work. Closing statement from the protag: "If the haters give you heat I'll put them out, I've got your back always!" yeah I bet he's got his back, alright the twink and the protag stand at the top of the ruins right next to each other after the explosion of the patriarchy--I mean the burnish genocide spaceship while the rest of the cast stand far away from them further down. What do you think that distance is there for? The heroine of the film gets thrown into the same pile as all the other support characters. The real heroine is the twink. The protag gets together with the twink and saves the day through homolust. That is how the film ends. Ah, there I go again grasping straws and jumping into conclusions--I really have to lay off the propaganda. Sadly laying off the propaganda and watching this film are mutually exclusive goals. Why is this film subversive? Because unlike other Trigger productions, camaradery (all the shounen "nakama" stuff) is supplanted with pure homoeroticism. So you get all the bang bang pew pew big robots action, but instead of the "nice guts bro never give up" you get "hey buddy I think you got the wrong address, the leather club is two blocks down". And because the audience is only in this for the pew pew, all that homo shit slips in subliminally. Well, almost subliminally because the film isn't subtle about it in the least. It isn't homoerotic undertones when it's gayer than a Mapplethorpe penis portrait. I want to talk a little bit about the geometry theme as well. The protagonist rejects his square medal when he finds out how much the poor burnish are oppressed and genocided. The square-triangle dichotomy used through the film showcases an imbalance/struggle that is resolved whenever round shapes appear. There are circles as he punches the antagonist for the last time. In the final scene, specular reflections and bokeh are round, as they normally are. "A return to normal, where homos and heteros live side by side with no hate". Or you can see it as "there are no more homos and heteros, we're all on the queer spectrum now". I can find more examples to back the geometrical part of the analysis up, but I can't be bothered to rewatch the whole fucking thing again.

Oh but one more fucking jab at how fucking gay the fucking film is because I can't seem to drive the point home enough and I just love pulling shit that CLEARLY ISN'T THERE out of my ass since I'm so indoctrinated: The antagonist, a big muscular macho man with a military uniform is supposed to be a self-loathing burnish that went out of his way to prosecute all the burnish for being so FLAMBOYANT. Shit where have I heard that kind of trope before...hmmm no it's probably a coincidence nevermind. Bottom line, you can love a shit film, I get that much, but don't insist that it's real neat stuff when drowned in evidence to the contrary, and certainly don't go crying home to papi when other people don't like it. Here are some articles, one from a fag magazine praising how homo the film is, and another from some other shithole praising how greatly it portrays BLM struggles. The themes of segregation, oppression and genocide apply to both BLM and queers, so it's easy to swap them in and out as needed. Frankly there are more articles than anyone can shake a stick talking about these same themes, and that's why many anons were upset with the film. Because the film isn't about fun, it's about showing things that seem fun and shoving all this other crap up your ass every other moment of the film. https://archive.is/6mezy https://archive.ph/cAraC Finally Speed Racer. Speed Racer first scene: Camera zooms in on SPEED RACER stressed out of his mind in a crazy colorful locker room (and no men in leather suits nearby--it's a fucking miracle), immediately jumps back to when he was a kid at school. Lil' SPEED RACER is ADHD'ing his ass off during a math exam. Film focuses on NUMBERS that get turned into a racing fantasy as SPEED RACER begins to daydream. Cut to his teacher's office where the teacher shows that all he thinks about is racing...and his brother/family, before it cuts back to SPEED RACER racing countless doodles in his mind/sperging out over racing in the middle of the exam. Boom, the whole fucking plot was just established. SPEED RACER is a film about a man struggling with his love and passion for racing and his family, a love and passion that cannot be quantified, and a world that seems to be driven by quantitative/materialistic values such as how much money you make per year. I shit you not, the antagonist is nothing but the physical manifestation of stonks and corporate takeovers, and SPEED RACER just wants good clean fun racing instead of fixers and mafias running the show. I could go on a LONG fucking while about speed racer because it is actually a fantastic film cinematographically speaking, but I'll cut it short right here because this is already a massive fucking blogpost no one will read. Blogpost over. See you all next Friday and thank you for screening the films, Jack.

>>631 >The antagonist, a big muscular macho man with a military uniform is supposed to be a self-loathing burnish that went out of his way to prosecute all the burnish for being so FLAMBOYANT. What the fuck are you talking about? Kray wants to use the burnish for fuel because he hates them. He hates being one himself. It's got nothing to do with some anti gay agenda. How fucking blind can you be to think that?! >Here are some articles, one from a fag magazine praising how homo the film is The creators behind the film literally say they wanted to make a "boy meets boy" story. Take from that what you will but the only actual gay moment is a life saving kiss. Galo & Lio aren't a couple by the end. They're just bros. >and another from some other shithole praising how greatly it portrays BLM struggles. >The themes of segregation, oppression and genocide apply to both BLM and queers, so it's easy to swap them in and out as needed. So? Oppression is universal. Just because some niggers are equating it to there current struggle doesn't mean shit. >Frankly there are more articles than anyone can shake a stick talking about these same themes, and that's why many anons were upset with the film. Because the film isn't about fun, it's about showing things that seem fun and shoving all this other crap up your ass every other moment of the film. You literally admit you're just looking for things to be mad about. Things that aren't even in the movie itself but what watchers took away from it. You're fucking retarded.
Pro(lapse)mare is gay, 'lol so random XD', and boring shit. Save your excuses for something worthwhile.
>>635 Ah yes very constructive criticism. I see now I'll have to use the ignore feature a lot more.
>>624 Ah shit I missed Speed Racer as well as Heavy Metal? Damn my shitty sleep schedule.
>>636 You've been dismissing criticism because it bothers your booty. Why are you so attached to this shit film anyway?
>>638 Nigger I've done nothing but tell you how your criticisms are wrong or completely based on things outside of the film. Fuck off.
>>639 People didn't like your fucking movie, Thai. It happens. You don't have to do damage control on its behalf and defend it like a desperate nigger.
>>640 I'm not Thai. It's okay to not like a movie. To not like the movie because of made up reasons that people who had nothing to do with the movie attribute it to is fucking retarded. You're hating a perfectly fine movie for no actual criticisms. Only vague connections that aren't actually there.
>>641 >made up criticisms None of them are "made up". All of them are completely valid and true. If there was just one gay thing, you could dismiss it as coincidence, but all of them combined including a straight up homo lip lock? There's no plausible deniability there. And even putting aside the homo blm propaganda it has, the plot was boring and the action was just dumb 10000000000% over the top lol so wacky trash which just became tedious after the first fight scene. Even with out the pozz, which is objectively there, it's still a bad movie. Trying to defend a movie that's shit because you like it for some reason is fucking retarded.
>>642 >None of them are "made up". All of them are completely valid and true. You're idea that Kray is a stand in for "evil straight white males" who just wanna oppress minorities & gays is completely baseless. Up to your own cynical interpretation. >If there was just one gay thing, you could dismiss it as coincidence, but all of them combined including a straight up homo lip lock? There's no plausible deniability there. The gayness is there but it's subtextual & the life saving kiss is written off with a joke right after. They don't have a passionate makeout at the end but a respectful fist bump. >And even putting aside the homo blm propaganda it has Homoness yes. Propaganda? Where? BLM propaganda? NO WHERE THERE! Again you & other retards are pulling comparisons completely out of your ass. This is as much a commentary on the oppression China puts on it's own people as it a BLM metaphor. Meaning it isn't at all. >plot was boring Subjective. >action was dumb & over the top Subjective & intentionally over the top. Don't know why you think that's a bad thing. Again you're completely fucking delusion. Get yourself checked into the insane asylum for your delusions. You need help.

Where? >burnish are oppressed minorities >freeze force are bad cops opressing said minorities >the gayness is there <Propaganda? Where? <BLM propaganda? NO WHERE THERE! <you & other retards are pulling comparisons completely out of your ass >boring plot is subjective Subjective to intelligence, yes >action was dumb & over the top is subjective Yeah. /vhs/ Movie Night The Invincible Armor - Nothing but Trouble - One Cut of the Dead Friday June 18th 5pm PDT - 7pm CDT - 8pm EST
>>674 >nothing but trouble Alright, i guess i’ll be there
The board is abandoned? No more movie nights?
>>676 Nah, I'm here and movie night is in a couple of hours.
>>676 The board is technically abandoned I guess but we're all still here. Someone needs to claim it.
movie night starts in 15 minutes
>Nothing But Trouble A movie in which Dan Akroyd is given free reign to write and direct any movie and he gave us this. An insanely weird trip of a movie that has all the hallmarks of a horror film yet is presented as a comedy. Not THAT bad of a film but feel free to skip it. >The Invincible Armour/Iron Armour Classic pre-communism chink kung fu film. Plot is incredibly simplistic but the choreography in the fight scenes is fantastic. Charming in its own way but still an enjoyable film to watch. >One Cut of the Dead Highlight of the night for me. Started off with a shitty looking and acted zombie film that turned into a meta narrative of film making and behind the scenes shenanigans. Keep in mind it starts off slow but once the 'end credits' roll, it picks up steam and turns into a truly fantastic film. Highly recommended.
>>678 It actually slipped my mind that there's another /vhs/ board on zzzchan
>Nothing But Trouble This movie really freaked me out as a kid. It's 100% a horror movie script as filmed by a comedy director. It's like those recut trailers that turn some thing like the Shining into a romantic comedy. Only as an entire movie. I still after all these years don't know what to think and feel about it. >The Invincible Armour It takes a little while to get going and then it's practically a fighting game plot. The final boss battle is a hell of a thing and has to be seen to be believed. I hope we get more HK martial arts movies in the future. >One Cut of the Dead I had absolutely zero hope for this movie, in part because I really don't like zombie movies. It turned out amazing. If you missed it go watch it now. If you don't like the first part of the movie, keep watching. It's worth it.
Nothing But Trouble Lots of wasted potential here. The production design was top-notch, and it's from the era when elaborate sets and costumes looked good and had a charm to them, before CGI took over and everything got that "HDR look". Unfortunately, it's not very funny for a comedy, and it's not spooky. The ending was a little funny, if predictable. Can't really recommend it, but you could do worse. Invincible Armor The highlight of the evening. Really solid choreography. Every fight was such a joy to watch, even the silly ones. The plot is so bad it's great. Would happily watch again. Not much else to review. It's a kung-fu movie, the kung-fu is fun to watch. Definitely a must see! You can find dubs on YouTube, but it's obviously best in the original Cantonese. One Cut of the Dead Managed to subvert its premise without actually doing so. The beginning is slow but it quickly redeems itself and justifies it. Also not much to say because I'd hate to spoil it. Lots of love went into the making of this film, and if you like meta stuff then it will definitely be up your alley. I recommend this movie. >>678 Jack just forgets to log in.
>>674 I forgot, what were we watching this week?
>>674 I only managed to watch The Invincible Armor and it delivered. The egg euphemism was fun. Otherwise, I'm glad people liked One Cut of the Dead. It really is a well done movie. >>684 Escape from LA, Surf II, and I Worship His Shadow (Lexx S01E01).

>>644 Speaking of Cobra I just found this while sorting through my Vidya folders.
starts in 20 minutes
I still don't have a clue as to what we're watching for theme movie night next week.
>>695 From what I got, it's Kung Fu Hustle, Sword of the Stranger, Way of the Dragon, and the last ten minutes of the Game of Death.
>>697 Those all sound excellent.
>>689 Little late to the party, but here's some reviews: Escape from LA Always a fun watch. Is it a better movie than Escape from New York? Objectively, no. But it's waaaay more fun. The most infamous middle finger to studios wanting unnecessary sequels, it does everything it can to make another impossible, and in doing so leaves a distinct impression. Even if the director didn't want it, I'm glad it exists. The music is great, Snake is great, and it takes some great shots at Hollywood. Surf II Theatrical release doesn't hold up nearly as well as director's cut, but I personally love this movie. It's not totally absurd. Some really great gags. Looks good for a budget film. The script carries it, as does the cast, even with some weak performances mixed in. A perfect summer movie. I Worship His Shadow This went on for ages and was incomprehensible. I guess it's a good lead-in to a show. Seems like the premise is "let's make a world and just throw you in", which can work, but it tried a bit too hard to avoid explaining things and put off the worldbuilding. The surgical scenes were great, but it seemed like there were a lot of them, and the atmosphere doesn't change much for the duration of the runtime which can be suffocating. Maybe it just works better as an episode of a show, but it's the only episode of Lexx I've seen so I have to treat it as a standalone film. That said, most pilots are bad and I wouldn't write off the show over it. Effects were great for a TV production, and while the acting was British television tier I was fine with it. >>697 I said "last 10 minutes of Game of Death" but after reviewing the film it's more like the last 20 minutes. Basically, all the segments that are actually Bruce Lee. It's a body double for most of the motorcycle fight (about 75 minutes in) but everything from about 01:21:03 onward is Bruce Lee at his best. The rest of the movie is literally not worth watching.

>>719 Lol. In any case a great time was had by all.
>Fist of the North Star OVA Pretty much everything I expected. I'm going to really have to get around to watching the series some day. >Kung Fu Hustle Basically just a live action anime. A little goofy in parts but there was solid action through out which is exactly what you want with these kind of movies. >Way of the Dragon The first Bruce Lee movie that I've ever saw and sadly it was the low point of the night. When there's fight scenes it's as great as you would expect but the movie takes way too long to get going. The first actual fight scene is something like 20 or 30 minutes in. >Sword of the Stranger If you checked out before this one was shown you missed a great movie. Very pretty movie too. >Kung Fu Panda Far better than a Dreamworks comedy about a fat bumbling panda trying to learn martial arts has any right to be. Every time I see this movie it amazes me how they were able to pull it off. Solid night overall aside from the padding in Way of the Dragon. Looking forward to next week.

>>808 >Uncut Gems Objectively, a great film. The film is nonstop dialogue to keep with the frantic plot. Adam Sandler plays the role of a Jewish jeweler well and the other portrayals were spot-on. However, films like this really put you on edge because everyone is shitting the bed and you feel like you're going insane. >Warlock I really enjoyed it. It's classic 80s cheese and it does it well. My only complaint is the woman's hair was absolutely awful. Cut back on the bleach and hair iron, lady. >Hell or High Water Seen this one before and I continue to like it. Jeff Bridges teasing his Native/Mexican colleague throughout the movie is always fun. Otherwise, the film talking mad shit about banks is one I can always get behind. I know some anons were comparing it to No Country for Old Men, but apart from it being a neo-western, the themes and plot are very different. >Aftershow That girl (male) had a big dick.

>>818 >Objectively, a great film. No.
>>821 You have to admit that it's at least competently made and acted and conveys exactly what it intends to. Yeah all the characters are awful people but movies don't necessarily have to have likeable characters to be good, just interesting ones.

Is there a list of movies that have been watched? I can figure out the main events just from reading the thread but pre-show and post show movies haven't necessarily been posted.

>>825 That French translation of Wild Tales triggers me, it's not even close. Is this (((localization)))?
>>828 Isn't "nouveaux" also a term for novels or short stories? They should have used "contes" though.
>>824 A movie being competently made doesn't make it a great movie. Doing the bare minimum of making a movie look like a movie doesn't count towards quality.
>>829 No, only the female form "Nouvelles" refers to short stories. The title they chose, written this way, is more akin to "The new wild men", "Sauvage" or Wild, used alone usually mean a wild man (or an indian). "Contes" would have been better yes. Les contes sauvages.

>>825 >Child's Play First time I checked out Child's Play and it was enjoyable. As per horror standards, it didn't make all that much sense, but it's not like it was taking itself all that seriously. Also very strange to see the Billy Bibbit from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as a bad guy. >Rolling Thunder Love this movie. I'd seen it once before and I'm glad I finally got to rewatch it Thank you Ablu for choosing it. It's a bit slow to start on the action, but the tension is real from the get-go. Screenplay is co-written by the man (Paul Schrader) who helped co-write or wrote the screenplays for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, so he clearly knew how to write the Vietnam PTSD POW. >Relatos salvajes Also love this movie. I saw it when it first came out and I was pleasantly surprised with how great it was. Again, tension throughout and you know shit is going down one way or another. Some of the stories hit a little too close to home sometimes, really making me feel uneasy. Definitely a worthy contender.

>>853 Unfortunately, I missed out on Master of the Flying Guillotine if anyone can let me know if it's worth watching, I'd appreciate it and most of Godzilla vs. Kong. From what I saw of Godzilla vs. Kong, one reviewer summed up my thoughts: "Any time the monsters are not on screen, in fact, is draining." And it takes a good forty minutes before we even see a damn fight. The movie emphasized human dramatics more than monster fighting. Definitely a throw away for me. >Heavy Trip I actually watched this one on my own time and it was pure dumb hilarity. >>867 >mfw I see an IRA-related movie ever since >>560 '71 was actually good, though, with no trannies in sight.
>>867 >The Big Short I watched this on my own time as I wasn't there to watch it with other anons. A really good film overall which makes sure to explain financial jargon in a simple manner for the viewer (but if you're half-paying attention, I can see why you'd get lost because it's a dialogue-heavy movie). I do have some personal, nitpicky gripes with it. I generally prefer documentaries over dramatisations when discussing real events. I don't care about the personal hangups (which may very well be fictitious) of the characters - tell me what happened instead of playing on my emotions and telling me who was good and who was bad. Related to this point, for example, it just didn't sit well with my that Steve Carell's character moans and groans at the end that the banks won't we receive any punishment and regular citizens are going to suffer, but pockets millions of dollars and doesn't give back to the community in any way. It's implied that he isn't doing anything wrong when his associate tells Steve Carell that he isn't at fault and he's screwing the system by getting money. But they spent so much time developing his character to be this pompous, righteous asshole, and in the end, all he says are words. Typical money-grabber. I'd still recommend the film, though. >'71 Seen this one before. Buildup is pretty shit because the lieutenant is an utter fool (is he really that dumb?), but it holds tension well throughout. Nice film. >The Blackout Pretty much what >>872 said. Concept seemed interesting, but it falls apart the more you think about it. The ending was the nail in the coffin for me. Fun to watch with anons though.

>>874 >Concept seemed interesting, but it falls apart the more you think about it. The ending was the nail in the coffin for me. The more that I think about it, the only way the plot makes sense at all is if Id was lying his ass off about everything. As in every bit of his dialogue was misdirection and fabrication. Which is entirely possible.
>>877 My understanding when I first saw the movie was that Id was lying about everything and only wanted to be a living God on a more manageable Earth. I hope the 6-part miniseries could help but I don't understand Russian and I haven't found anywhere if it was ever translated. I keep finding the abridged movie in English but everything else is in Russian. I was intrigued enough that I wouldn't mind seeing more. This also made me fall into the rabbit hole of Russian cinema.

>>881 I would watch Lynch's Dune with you guys. Like you, it grew on me. Then we can get mad together that Paul chose shitty Chani while superior Irulan was avalaible.

Vidocq was great. I'd like to see more movies like that.
Jack remember to get the complete version of Dracula and not one of the edited down tv versions. The theatrical version is 2 hours 8 minutes (128min).
>>884 Seeing Vidocq as a teen made me realize how awesome sporting a Mirror mask is. >yfw you will never drug skin young virgin to make a mirror mask with their blood.
>>885 Jack should also get the torrent from rarbg. The site he regularly uses is terrible. Especially for subbed movies.
>>885 I can provide an encode if needed. But I need to know ahead of time so I can play with settings. I've got some gifs I'm working on. Trying to get fancy for a couple of them and it's holding the whole thing up.

Nope I was wrong it actually was a Delorean. I've never seen a red orange one before.
>>912 The film released before Back to the Future. They must have found someone with a painted DeLorean to rent from. I think the stainless steel finish was more controversial before BTTF made it look cool, so perhaps these were once more common.

>>944 For the last two? I would say The Blob, and Elvira of course. For the whole months, it's hard to choose but I think it is between Vampire Hunter D and Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Here you go TheSoloMan
Sorry for those who didn't like the movie. I'll try to think up a better one next time. The real problem with the movie I think is there was a lot of build up and not much payoff at the end and at the same time the goings on aren't quiet mysterious enough to to pull that kind of thing off. I think a better script could have really pulled it off though even with the exact same footage.
