And when they do, it's usually really poor quality as a general rule. Exceptions exist, but they're not the norm. And if you're looking for non-porn furry games, then you're even more out of luck since a good portion of our posters don't really care if a game doesn't have porn and many of the furry games that aren't sexfests are either obscure as shit or don't have large numbers of people who play them anyway or the time to do so.

Straight devs most likely have the somewhat erroneous view that there's too much competition in their bracket (not an entirely unreasonable assumption to make, since there's theoretically a lot more of them around, but practically that simply isn't the case and they've not done the requisite market research to realize it) and feel like they need more than a bit of slick wordplay and a few pretty pictures to sell their shit, which means bigger project scopes with lots of gameplay features, which means many more opportunities for a project to crash and burn. Maybe Snoot and Wani are sufficient proof positive that you can indeed find success with competently made straight VNs and more people will try their hand at in the near future. We shall see, I suppose.

My issue with a lot of "furry VNs" is that they only really work as "furry VNs", or at least would be half as well liked without that. I don't think that's quite true with something like Snoot Game which I think people would still have loved even if it was all humans. I know there's nothing "furry" about something like Echo thematically, but you sort of just is, you know?

I haven't played Snoot game, but Echo does justify furry characters by playing into their features sometimes. Echo also works as a story if you have no romantic interest in any of the characters. You could rewrite some scenes and make them all human if you really wanted to, but I think you would also lose some of its identify as well. I'm not sure how much snoot game does because it also is trying to appeal to the "I want to fuck furry girls, but I'm not a furry crowd."
