I think it was mostly a desperate attempt to get attention, keep in mind that both Tail Concerto and Solatorobo sold really bad, maybe they thought that going full edge would make more people curious about their games, but I'm not sure it worked as expected, at all. The "deluxe" DLC is literally swimwear costumes for the cubs, so you can tell the game was made for people who wanted to look at the characters, not murder them. Marketing mistakes aside, CyberConnect 2 deserves much more love. A studio that keeps making games that don't fucking sell, only because they want to make furry games is absolutely based in my book.
