I just figured things out as I went, but basically it's conceptually similar to taking screenshots, just with a bit more math: you still want to look for good angles and lighting, you still want to hide clipping with clever camerawork. The thing about animations in gpose with Brio is that you can adjust bones and the adjustments you make will carry over to the animations. This means that you can effectively change the animation to suit your needs. You can also have a pose and just add some movement to it with an idle animation or something. You'd select an animation and then apply your pose afterwards, and then bam. That's what I did with my WoL here. Really though a lot of the animations you find on XMA are good enough with minimal editing.

Davinci Resolve is what I use. It's free and good enough. I mostly use it for trimming clips and stitching things together. The math I mentioned is mostly for getting things to loop smoothly. If you don't care about that you don't need to do any math. Let's say you have two different animations you want to sync for a perfect loop. One's 22.97 seconds long and the other is 4 seconds long. If I wanted this to loop smoothly, I'd want the 22.97 second animation to be 24 seconds since 24 is divisible by 4. That means I'd need to adjust the speed of the 24 second long animation to 1.04484109708, or the product of 24 / 22.97. (Brio cuts you off at the 3rd decimal point) so that everything ends at the same time
