>>375 >Swag Axe Not him, but I've been trying to explore using switch axe. What's the fucking deal with sword mode? Why does this sword feel like it has negative reach? The sword is like 8 feet long, but it feels like I need to be within range to pommel-strike the monster to even score a hit. The shortswords on SnS and charge blade's sword form feel like they have 3x the reach of the switch axe sword.
so whats the most active place to discuss mh this shit dead nigga
>>560 The /v/ thread is much more active.
>>546 Swax user here. Axe is your mobility mode, and you use it to move out of the way and hit somewhat hard. Your sword swings a bit faster, and builds up while to hit twice once fully. It's less mobile but leads into your most damaging moves. The way you use it properly is by constantly switching the mode it's in as your hitting the monster, effectively using it like a god damn butterfly knife. You'll figure out the combos in due time, much of the weapons use is about movement flow so if you feel like a GS user you're doing something very wrong.

>>588 I'm trying to get the hang of it as a new player, and I understand that axe is the mobility mode but I swear that sword would feel so much more comfortable in wilds if the character were to take half a pace further forward with his sword attacks. I think part of the problem is that I'm coming from insect glaive, so that's the level of mobility that I'm accustomed to. I'm starting to learn some of the moves, so I know to make use of morph strikes and that "forward heavy" axe attack where you take a good step forward, but it's really annoying against some monsters like Lala Barina that just do a backflip 10 meters away from you the moment that you get within range to start hitting them in sword mode. It feels like there are lots of "get back here you fucking cunt" moments against a lot of monsters. Barina/rathalos/rathian feel the most frequently obnoxious. Reydau and arkveld bounce around a lot too. I've been exploring secondary weapons that go with my IG so that I have options with more comfortable blocks/parries that don't have prerequisites like IG's offset, and Swax and charge blade are the two that I started with first. I feel like charge blade clicked with me a bit more, but that might be because charge blade might have a lower skill floor that switch axe. I'm trying to give switch axe more time because honestly its offsets and parries are more fun even if I think charge blade's perfect blocks are easier. What weapon decorations do you slot into your switch axe? I'm using zoh shia's swax since I'm stubbornly refusing to even give artian weapons the time of day. I want to run something to help maintain sharpness, but I feel taxed in my decoration choices. My gut makes me think that the morph attacks are paramount for the weapon and that I want the morph speed decorations to lean into that. I also feel like the weapon strongly encourages you to have power prolonger to keep the sword amped gauge online longer. But then I'm out of decoration slots and can't make room for handicraft or razor sharp.
>>599 If you want to move forward a bit, morph. Just morph to axe, then immediately morph back to sword. If the monster moves too far out of range for that, roll and morph, then morph back.
>>600 One thing that I did learn is that sword mode's first dodge is different when focus mode is turned on. With focus mode disabled it's a roll forward, but with focus mode enabled it's a quickstep forward. It doesn't cover as much distance but I think that you can recover from the dodge faster to get back to swinging. It's just another one of those things that makes me think that swax has a higher skill floor than charge blade. Charge blade's skill floor felt comparatively easy to reach. >collect phials >enter savage axe mode >go crazy with the skill ceiling presumably reaching the point where you git-gud with the guard points during the phial collection and triggering savage axe mode parts of the gameplay loop.
>>603 Yeah swaxe is a bit tougher at the start I think. Learning to make use of all the movement options you have with your morphs and fades is kinda hard at first and the weapon feels awkward until you force yourself to get used to how it wants to be played. In Wilds the optimal damage loop of FRS > spiral slash > morph double slash > FRS > repeat is pretty easy to get down, but using the weapon outside of that can be weird for new players. As for skills, power prolonger is your most desirable as it allows you to stay amped longer and get out more FRSs. You can slot rapid morph after that or a sharpness skill. If you want multiple of those your only real choice is to use an artian swaxe. You'll be able to max PP, RM, and RS. Although if you wanna go full metafag I think the best you can do is maxed PP, then max crit boost while having all the typical crit shit like 4 piece gore with maxed wex and max might.
>>560 The other thread on /v/ is more active but only at certain times of the day. Otherwise it's as dead as this one
>>604 A question about toughness: Is it even worth giving a damn about sharpness management decorations when fights are so short and we have the secondary weapon system? As I've been experimenting with weapons, I've been keeping my IG in my secondary slot as a comfort option to fall back on. I've been trying to straight up finish the fights with the new weapons so that I can build up experience with them, but I'm wondering why I'm sharpening in the middle of the fight if I can just summon the seikret and quickswap to a whole new weapon once the first one starts getting dull. Now that I'm typing this out, I don't know if I can just go ahead and craft two Zoh Shia swaxes and carry both? Just swap between them when one gets dull. Sharpen them after the fight or if the monster manages to flee.
>>615 the only thing I would take into consideration in using the same weapon is making sure you have duplicates of the relevant decos you want. as an example, razorsharp/handicraft was rare for me (I only have 1), so I can only use it on one of the weapons in my current loadout - but obviously 1 point of handicraft isn't that crazy and I could just use razorsharp/whatever on the other if necessary.
>>615 It's less important. You can also manage your sharpness mid fight by doing a quick swipe to recover a small chunk of sharpness and rolling out to continue your offense.
>35k players So it finally fell below 40k. I have to say it held out longer than I thought but they really have to hurry up with lagiacrus. Honestly they should rush the expansion out
milds on the moe
so when are we getting new content? in a few hours?
>>599 > sword would feel so much more comfortable in wilds if the character were to take half a pace further forward with his sword attacks. god no SA is like the only weapon that still contains remnants of when monster hunter was more committal and you actually put in a modicum of effort to stay close enough to the monster to do good damage and not die.
uh oh bros anamoly monsters are starting to filter me
>>691 That would all be fine and dandy if we were still fighting the older monsters that don't sperg around as much as the new ones.
>>696 iceborne monsters were way faster than this and in that game you couldn't even just press rt at any time to do an attack while taking a huge leap forward while redirecting your aim 180 degrees with focus mode. SA is perfectly fine in this game. new players are just incredibly pampered.
I'm finally getting used to the fucking bowling ball moves they gave basarios in rise. Those two moves are like the only dangerous moves he has but they used to always get me
4CHAN FUCKING WENT DOWN, I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO SHITPOST FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Neat I noticed the beginner kinsects in rise heal you when you recall them and they're as fast as the endgame assist kinsects. It's good to see even the lower level kinsects still have use in the endgame. They're good for counteracting dereliction
>>702 just think of all the NOOOOOO posts...gone...like tears in the rain...
>>690 NEVER EVER CHUD wilds was cancelled
guys...I...I think I'm trans
>>711 That's okay world was made for people like you. It'll be alright
>>712 I...I feel so accepted :') I love world so much
That's right that's what I like to see! Trannies are mhg culture and we love and support them. I'll beat the fuck out of any nigga saying otherwise
man, /mhg/ is disgusting without ids
>>714 Fight me faggot, I'll harass every tranny out of this damn community
>>708 Seemed like a lot of the GU bugs were the same way, although most people didn't care about their effects back then aside from getting extracts fast. I'm glad they started making sure everything was at least usable toward endgame, it was depressing to get cool shit like the clockwork glaive that became worthless as soon as you hit G rank
