Here's the thing... vtuber in Indonesia has a small market & ecosystem—let alone in Indonesia, there are still many who are struggling in the EN/global market scene. Meanwhile, the concept of an entertainment agency is usually used for something 'serious' & very professional. It's like using a business case study, someone wants to start a business with a plan that is too idealistic & immediately goes all in, spending a lot of effort & budget in a place and niche where the market conditions are uncertain. Not to mention the lack of experience in the fields of creative content/entertainment, business, and marketing. With only the power of circles, passion/hobbies & technical skills (which's not enough), and sacrificing tens~hundreds of millions of rupiah in savings. We know that the vtuber content format is generally considered less flexible, when you enter a vtuber agency whose business model is less flexible and sometimes the content can be strict too, it gets even worse.
In terms of personal growth/development, I think indies who start from the very beginning & do everything themselves at the beginning will be more crafty in their mentality and creative experience. Without an agency, management, or staff at the beginning of their career, they will be required to make the most of their limited time and resources so that they can be used as efficient & effectively as possible. Their problem-solving and creativity skills will be further honed. Like it or not, they have to keep experimenting, trying this and that, trial and error more.
Another unique thing is that many agency Vtubers—at least in Indonesia, those who join agencies to get assistance are not actually because of serious intentions or wanting to be more professional, but rather because vtuber is not their main activity. They think in that way. In certain cases, they will only end up becoming vtweeters. I can't judge that those who do vtuber streaming as a side job are bad and I understand that some have their own reasons that are not as simple as wanting to get additional income or milking fans, but there are also those who want to have a presence in the community and are comfortable with the community. Even so, some of them are confidently think that they are already quite professional and even better than others? That's funny. That's still the wrong way of thinking.
They should have started everything independently first. It's okay if even vtuber is only part time. As long as they focus, try to set aside 4-6 hours of their time every day for 1~2 years, trust me the results will be show. Besides, to get assistance, you don't have to join an agency. Miti & Shylily have their own managers even though they don't join an agency. That's what most content creators (in general) have been doing all this time. Until when the need for content is felt to be no longer able to be handled independently & when opportunities increase, it's time to add and improve other things including hiring manpower.
