After nearly 20 games down the line, ZUN spontaneously decides that just avoiding danmaku while gathering powerups has gotten stale, and asks you to come up with a new gameplay mechanic that makes Touhou 19 both refreshing and fun. What do you add?

What about other than dodging danmaku you can take "photos" of the danmaku and get more points based on how good it is? Wait.... You can just ask ZUN to make another spin-off and he's making (or supervising) 2hu 17.5 sidescrolling game now as we speak. But If I still have to come up with new gameplay, what about danmaku puzzle where you shoot certain area in the pattern to fill it up and erase it, kinda like Tetris? We definitely need new danmaku spin-off other than photo games. VD wasn't that great.
Earth-to-Air Flak-like anti-air coverage. Dodge bullets and laser rays coming from BELOW the screen as well.
Multiplayer mode where you and a bunch of other players are enclosed in a circle of danmaku that keeps shrinking until there is only one left.

Remove screen border, and turn screen into camera. I'm tired of dying because I have nowhere to escape. Pretty sure there already are games like this, just not from ZUN.

You know, i'm kinda scared of ZUN passing away before passing the torch to someone else or made a final game to tie up the game indefinitely. That may be decades from now before it comes to pass, and we'll all be aging boomers reminiscing of good old imageboards. But goddamn does the thought scares me a little.

>>2215 Mistake on my part. I thought Akyuu described her as such, but she simply notes that Meiling, while being very good at martial arts, doesn't have many youkai-like powers. Interestingly, Akyuu also notes that other youkai around the mansion might also come to Meiling's aid when she is attack - something normally rare when they rather would watch from the sidelines. Although these could just be meant to to be SDM fairies, rather than random youkai from the Misty lake.

Add the Prismriver and Tsukumo Sisters into the fray, perhaps have your shot types be based on a musical instrument that's affected by the background music, and it would be an interesting .5 game.
