Iceberg Thread Nameless Fairy 02/05/2021 (Fri) 20:32:04 No. 1835
Let's have a collective iceberg thread for autistic fan theories. Starting out with the most obvious, all but officially stated stuff. Use your unholy powers over MS Paint to add your own.
Fuck it, lets do memes instead. marisa stole the precious thing marisa high on mushrooms yukkuri aniki remixes for advanced people tag cookie<star> yukkuri torture male crossdressers
>>>r/touhou
>>1835 Why ice(((berg))) memes though? Isn’t that for DEEPEST LORE type of games? ZUN strikes me as the type of person who writes things that he thinks that it’s interdasting, yet somehow works when put into the context of Gensokyo
>>1840 There's plenty of stuff hidden behind one or two layers of implications. Like Sakuya actively butchering humans and making them into foodstuff for Flandre - while she simultaneously is on friendly terms with other humans like Reimu or Marisa.
i think touhou is deep enough in the iceberg of everything else
>>1840 Unintentionally "deep" and fan theories usually count for this iceberg meme, because I think it usually emphasize on filling it with silly stuff.
>>1854 Yeah but most of the interesting lore implications are only there if you know tidbits of traditional chinese / japanese mythology. So you're pretty much locked out of the loop if you didn't have the first hand exposure to it.
But Maribel=Yukari isn't even officially stated.
>>1904 I think their symbolic links - from appearance to ability - are evidence enough they're shomehow connected. But yeah, they don't necessarily have to be one and the same person. Another plausible option would be Maribel being a distant descendant from Yukari in the same sense Sanae is a distant descendant of Suwako. I'd be more interested in the question if Renko has some equivalent in Gensokyo, too. Her scientific background (string theory and all that) effectively makes her an anathema to it, but I've still seen theories from her mirroring >Reimu (Renko upholds the rules of physics/always knows her location, Reimu upholds the rules of Gensokyo, can change her "location" to become intangible) >Eiki (upholds the rules of death, cold black-white dualism instead of Yukari's/Maribel's powers over the opaque/ambiguous) >Byakuren (Lotus motif alongside "Renko" literally meaning "Lotus Child")
>>1904 >>1908 Wasn't the existence of mirror universes/parallel dimensions canon during the PC98 era ? Maybe those 2 are just mirror images, lacking any direct bond.
>>1904 >https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Doujin_Barrier:_The_Work_Called_Touhou_and_the_Fantasy_of_Game_Creation#Part_3:_Q_.26_A >Q. Is Merry related to Yuakin [Yukari] somehow!?? She's so cute!!11 >A. How should I say this. In the past, there was this Lafcadio Hearn....Don't think too much about this (laugh) YukaiRn!!!1 Lafcadio-san going around sticking his gyros into random spacetime holes is confirmed canon.
>>1911 Judging from Yumemi's home world Dimensional Dream's parallel universes are not like the usual parallel universe trope where everything is identical save for character traits, but instead they differ from each other a great deal. Yumemi's world in particular is devoid of anything supernatural to the point where sge had to travel to a parallel universe to find heraelf a youkai. Which, if the whole 'theory' about Hypervessel being a time machine instead of/as well as transdimensional spaceship is true, means that in the future youkai will either go extinct or seal themselves off to a degree where it's no longer possible to reach them without going back in time, perhaps even on the multiuniversal scale if Hypervessel is both. Which in turn ties into Maribel/Renko's grim future setting where children grow up unable to dream and strawberries exist only as synthetic additive.

Fuck it, might as well.

The truth about Marisa is that she's the ultimate wildcard. The very embodiment of human potential. Where Reimu is stuck in her role as a shrine maiden, Marisa technically can be whatever she wants to be so long as she puts enough effort into it. If Remilia can actually manipulate fate by pulling its strings into one direction or another, it would have no effect on Marisa - simply because she has no strings to begin with. This means there's nothing to catch her if hse falls all the way to the bottom, but also nothing to prevent her from rising further than regular humans are meant to be. Yukari - who's in charge of arranging things behind the curtains - probably is keeping a closer eye on her than she does on Reimu because Marisa is the one entity whose actions she can not predict. That one walking freak accident just waiting to happen. That magicians are usually driven by obsession (dolls for Alice, books/knowledge for Patchouli, eternal life and the human-youkai peace for Byakuren) only makes it worse because Marisa's kleptomania and hoarding symptoms ultimately hide a desire for power - namely the power of being on par with Reimu. Hells know what will happen if she turns into a full magician and that obsession becomes stronger than her human side. In a worst-case scenario, she'll end up like Junko - completely obsessed over a singular goal, and thoroughly unhinged over the means of reaching it.
Anyone knows that mima associated meme, >>293 or something. It was a number in a thread where somebody said that they'd like to milk mima. I think this meme is worhy of level 4. Fuck I hate imageboards with their >>8937840275902738467289375 numbers, why can't they use >>1 >>2 >>3 instead. Fuck you moot.
How obscure is this meme? Koa and Kokoa. I guess level 3, but I'll move it to level 2 or even 1 if you guys are aware of it. Fan theories are something boring westerners entertain each other with while writing long forum posts after reading boring source material. Memes are more light, easy to digest, more entertaining and widespread.
You know this shit is old because they didn't had the real hermit back then.

>>2212 IIRC the meme of there being multiple Koakumas sprang up because her cameo appearance in Inaba of the Moon and her in-game sprite in EoSD have long hair, whereas her cameo appearance in Strange and Bright Nature Deity had short hair. Which may or may not boil down to artistic liberty, but as ZUN never has bothered to flesh her out, it's entirely possible Patchouli has multiple Koas in the library much like the SDM has multiple different fairy maids.
>>2221 I think it was explicitly said at one point that the SDM has only one devil employed, so I think Koakuma just likes experimenting with her hair.
By the way, Satsuki Rin is Mima's real identity before she was killed by ZUN and became a vengeful spirit. Think about it: >Touhou's third protagonist was always Mima. >She has a grudge against one of the past Hakurei mikos (or perhaps a Hakurei kannushi). >We know nothing about Rin because ZUN doesn't want to talk about her. He doesn't want to talk about either of them. Toho's last big reveal is going to be that PC-98 came before the Windows era. Screenshot me now.
>>2337 This also explains why Reimu isn't an ancient thirty year old (((baby))) after two decades of Windows games and a supposed timeskip from PC-98 during which she was already around twelve. The timeskip never happened.
(254.11 KB 370x533 Le04SuzumiPlayable.png)

>>2337 No, Satsuki Rin is Suzumi Kuzu in disguise. She tried to enter the game by force but got shitcanned by ZUN at the last second. Isn't it sad, Suzumin?
>>2221 >One is manga is a gag 4-koma, mostly about the residents of Eientei >The other is a comedy about three stupid fairies Now this is quite the conundrum. Both of em barely gave any focus on koakuma. Although the general consensus seems to be the long-haired one is mostly portrayed as.
>>1835 I like the "pc-98 is an apocalyptic future" one.
>>2221 Koa is supposed to be a demon summoned by patche right? So she sould have summoned more of the same demon type it makes sense.

Another obscure meme, is Remilia being drawn very very pale. Seen it only twice, I think. Don't remember the doujinshi name.
Another super obscure neta. ┌(┌^o^)┐ヒフゥ... Fuck "theories", memes are better.
