Touhou 17.5 and new (and old) faces Nameless Fairy 08/20/2020 (Thu) 14:24:47 No. 567
So, with ZUN basically having already confirmed that the Eagle Spirits and their leader Toutetsu would be in Touhou 17.5 (with Toutetsu presumably the equivalent of a final boss), what other new faces do you think might make an appearance? Or conversely, which characters from the previous games may be in? Kogasa and Yuugi were already in the demo, but considering the "black water" in all likelihood is oil, I wouldn't be surprised if Kanako made this another Moriya shrine conspiracy for the sake of all those petrodollars. Utsuho, on the other hand, might be pissed when she recognizes the oil as a power source to her own, nuclear power.
>what other new faces do you think might make an appearance? There was mention of a hidden parasite-based group, so there's the light chance of the leader of that as an extra boss. >Or conversely, which characters from the previous games may be in? I will not tolerate Nitori being anything less than a playable character for this.

>>567 >Or conversely, which characters from the previous games may be in? I'M STILL WAITING ZUN!
There's a good chance Yachie would appear as a boss. Notice how the bosses so far are also bosses of the same stage of their respective games (stage 2 UFO and stage 3 SA) and aside from Marisa they all can conjure water (or at least has reason to). Yachie would be the stage 4 boss, being half turtle, and the oil could be the center of Yakuza conflict as it could be the fuel of new technology built by Keiki worshippers in Animal Realm (like all the buildings and techno stuff we see in last two stages of WBaWC) rather than anything in Gensokyo. Though if Moriya shrine has to be involved Suwako or Sanae is more likely to be representative. Nitori is probably too late to come now as I can't see how she would be important to the story and stage 4 is when the plot usually thickens with no more room for passing-by characters.
>>571 >can't see how important Nitori would be to a story revolving around a resource with heavy technological implications for Gensokyo Plus if the oil pollutes all of the rivers with the way it's been gushing out then the kappas won't get to play with the otters anymore.
>>572 Being simply affected by the plot is the kind of story for stage 1-3 bosses. She needs deeper involvement than that if she want to take the stage 4 spot, like most stage 4 bosses in the series so far either work for the mastermind or responsible for the incident herself. So the only way I can see Nitori would be in the game is if she (temporarily) ditched to Goyoku Alliance somehow or the kappa raged war with them or/and somehow caused the incident to happen.
>>573 I meant her being involved with the plot through being a playable character, anon. She's the most watery 2hu, so it fits from a gameplay perspective too.
(49.07 KB 484x313 geddan.gif)

>>574 Well that's a lot to hope for but I won't complain if it does happen.
>>574 Nitori will all sorts of gimmicky gadget shots or bombs would be hilarious.

>Kanako actually shows up >As a playable character, rather than as a gimmick of Sanae I'm not gonna say it's happening, but it's totally happening.
>>584 >playable Kanako I wonder why she's the choice over the Moriya member that has more to do with water.
>>588 She's the goddess of wind and RAIN. Also, you see Yamame in there. I think it sorta broke the speculation that every character has something to do with water.
A business head meeting a yakuza. I wonder where this is going.
>>589 But that's wrong, anon. Remember how in SA Nitori said earth spiders are always dirtying up the kappas' rivers?
>>584 She appears in what looks like a full scale cold synthesis power-plant. 17.5 fuel industry wars confirmed.

Newhu's profile Yuuma Toutetsu Species: Toutetsu Power: To absorb anything A divine beast in the form of a lamb. Through greed and gluttony, she can swallow anything whole, physical or spiritual, organic or inorganic. Furthermore, by swallowing something she gains an understanding of it, and gains its power. Her personality also seems to be influenced by what she eats. She's the leader of the Animal Realm gang Gouyoku Alliance. The Gouyoku Alliance is an organization that stays out of the spotlight, keeps an eye on the bigger picture, and enjoys scheming to swoop in and take everything when the time is right. Their motto is "Fisherman's Advantage" (an idiom about taking something while other people are fighting over it). She loves underhanded and cowardly methods, so the other organizations are sick of her, but she's admired by her underlings as a reliable boss with a practically unbeatable power. That said, she has no attachment to having underlings, and prefers to act on her own. Perhaps because of her influence, many others in the Alliance also just do whatever they want. Despite her appearance, she is clever and cool-headed, and prefers to avoid pointless fighting. If she determines that an enemy can't be threatened, she'll try to get them to join her. If she determines that won't work, she'll try to establish a superficially cooperative relationship. If she determines that won't work either, she'll choose to immediately flee. To the Gouyoku Alliance, total war is truly a last resort. Using the opening provided by the fuss with the animal spirits, she set her eye on the former Lake of Blood Hell, where she schemed to get her hands on not only the Animal Realm, but all the desires of the surface too. However, her plans were revealed to the humans by a secret god on the surface, and she was destroyed by an anti-Toutetsu assassination scheme. After regenerating, she gave up on monopolizing the oil and decided to cooperate with the secret god.

Fuck it, I'll post a wall-text of the game's plot/lore here copypasted from 4jp just to keep it around. Sadly I can't play the game yet but you guys might wanna try it. Toutetsu’s ability allows her to absorb enemy attacks, so even if an attack hits her hard, it will not do much real harm to her; rather, it will become her food and make her stronger. Therefore, normal attacks fail to fully destroy Toutetsu. For this reason, Okina decided to use Flandre’s power to destroy Toutetsu. In order to make Flan accept this job, Okina intentionally had the oil gush out to the ground, which drew the strong to trace the source of oil, find Toutetsu and challenge her. This successfully leads to the fact that many powerful beings cannot destroy Toutetsu. With this fact as a bait, now Okina can say “There is an enemy that no one else can destroy; only you can do this." to have Flan involved. In fact, Toutetsu’s action itself did not pose a direct threat to the surface world. The Former “Lake of Blood” Hell was abandoned, full of grudge and malice, and no one really knows how to deal with it. This is why after Kanako and others have met with Toutetsu, they decide to let Toutetsu continues to absorb the Lake of Blood, as long as Toutetsu can ensure that the blood will not overflow. But Okina’s purpose is clear enough: to totally destroy Toutetsu. No detailed reasons can be found in the game, but it seems that the major issue is the fact that what Toutetsu absorbs influences her character. Toutetsu is the embodiment of avarice; even if she is destroyed, she will soon revive. Toutetsu absorbs the hatred and malice in the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell, and thus is heavily influenced by them. Okina may be worried that by absorbing malice Toutetsu will eventually become a serious threat, so she decides to destroy Toutetsu with all necessary means. After the incident, reborn Toutetsu comes up to the surface world and absorbs the desires here instead, so she becomes more open to negotiation. After discussing with youkais in Gensokyo and the Former Hell, reborn Toutetsu makes a covenant and becomes the official administrator of the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell. And Okina also becomes the administrator, as a representative of the surface world, of the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell. In this regard, it seems that Okina grabs this chance to gain control of the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell. The endings also mention that people accept Okina’s takeover because her nature of secrecy fits the job to conceal the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell full of malice, while the nature of Toutetsu may still remain an unstable factor.
>>3494 Sequence of Events: WBaWC Incident V Toutetsu took advantage of the chaos and went to the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell to absorb the oil V Okina noticed this and intentionally caused the oil to gush out to the ground, drawing others to track the oil to find Toutetsu V Myouren Temple noticed first that the true face of oil field is the Lake of Blood, so Murasa was sent to investigate this. To pass through the Former Hell of Blazing Fires, Murasa punches holes at the bottom of the Sanzu River, and used the unlimited water amount of Sanzu River to extinguish the fire in the Former Hell of Blazing Fires (according to Kanako, the amount of water diverted by Murasa even exceeds the total amount of water in Gensokyo) V Kutaka found that the bottom of the Sanzu River was punched holes, so she came to investigate V Yorigami Sisters gather the oil and begin to call themselves “Oil Baron (石油王, lit. Oil King)” and “God of Wealth (富豪神, lit. Millionaire God)” V Reimu, Marisa, and Kanako find something’s wrong and set off to investigate V Reimu and others meet Toutetsu, but fail to knock her down because of her ability V Okina uses "No one else can destroy Toutetsu" as a bait, and Flan agrees to help V After receiving special training from Okina, Flan goes to the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell and successfully destroyed Toutetsu V Toutetsu revives and makes a covenant with the youkais in Gensokyo and the Former Hell V Toutetsu and Okina became the official administrators of the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell. As a result, Okina officially gains control of the Former “Lake of Blood” Hell.

>>3496 >review >The oil field was the Lake of Blood the whole time? It has to do with ZUN's interpretation of petroleum "being the blood of the Earth" (demonstrated in dialogues) blood is a crucial part of creature's body, and contains so many elements, physical or spiritual now that petroleum is the blood of the Earth, and literally comes from creature's body, petroleum in fact contains many "desires", such as emotions, greed, hatred, etc. Thus she goes to the former Lake of Blood Hell to swallow petroleum to gain desire as her power, and it is clear that the more she swallows, the stronger she is, and the greedier she becomes as well, pushing her to seek more power If no one stops her swallowing, she will definitely pose a threat to the balance of power in Gensokyo, so here comes Oki-hype teaming up with Flan as the "anti-Toutetsu assassination scheme"
