Nameless Fairy 10/02/2020 (Fri) 10:19:03 No. 802
Why is this girl hit on Alice and Patchy at same time?
Because they are fellow magicians? Duh
You mean both of their houses? Cause she's efficient.
>>802 Because Marisa's so tomboyish that she's the closest thing to a heterosexual male the setting has. On a slightly more serious note, I could imagine they're at least partially interested in her because Marisa, honestly speaking, is stupidly powerful for a mere human that doesn't happen to be a shrine maiden. If you actually think about it, she'd normally be just another no-name girl from the Human Village - yet she somehow fights and wins danmaku duels against literal gods and is the #2 incident resolver right after Reimu. Differently put, she's the ultimate wildcard. And she has not even turned into a full-fledged magician yet.
>>805 >stupidly powerful for a mere human It's not like she doesn't have quite some natural talent, but she would indeed be just a no-name village girl had she not been born into the line of magical shop owners, burglarized a shitton of spells from fellow magicians and other magical beings, received a one-of-a-kind mountain-melting magical microwave which she uses to preheat the strongest of her spells from her fellow junk shop owning boyfriend, and most importantly had she not been noticed and mentored by the strongest magical being this world has yet to see. Also, touhou magic seems to require less of a natural affinity and more of an autistic dedication over a lifetime of study (case in point Mokou, who naturally learned pyrokinesis with limited effort despite starting out as a natural human just because she had all the time in the world to get the hang of it). That's also why I don't see magicians really giving a fuck about each other's powers, because they ultimately only care about their field of study. >somehow fights and wins danmaku duels against literal gods Null point. Danmaku was specifically designed to give low level shmucks like night sparrows, nekomatas and Aki sisters a shot at standing their ground against the strongest inhabitants of Gensokyo in what is supposed to be a battle of skill as opposed to raw power.
>>806 >into the line of magical shop owners I thought one reason Marisa ran away from home was implied to be her father's shop specifically not dealing with magical items. >Also, touhou magic seems to require less of a natural affinity and more of an autistic dedication over a lifetime of study Agreed. I think becoming a magician isn't that much different from becoming a "wizard" in the real world - you simply are so autistic about your respective hobby that you forget about stuff like eating, sleeping, or aging. >Danmaku was specifically designed to give low level shmucks (...) a shot at standing their ground against the strongest inhabitants of Gensokyo in what is supposed to be a battle of skill as opposed to raw power. Yes and no. It's obviously different from going all-out (otherwise Hecatia would probably have raped Reimu et. al. into the ground and then a few dozen feet deeper), but I think there's at least a degree of corellation between danmaku power and actual power. Otherwise you might as well put a stage 6 boss into the place of a stage 1 boss and vice versa (no offense, Yuyuko).
>>809 >her father's shop specifically not dealing with magical items. So it didn't. Strange, I thought his shop had a name that featured "magic" in it. Maybe it's because of the Kirisame magic shop. I wonder what happened to make her father take this stance on magic. (inb4 Marisa is actually half-vengeful spirit) >I think there's at least a degree of corellation between danmaku power and actual power. In think more powerful youkai can hurl more magic per second, and their projectiles probably hurt more after you had already lost, but it's not like stronger danmaku would be harder to dodge. It's just that lower stage bosses are usually all simpletons that are way less subtle and technical about their patterns. Danmaku to obliterating each other with fireballs is probably what aikido is to fighting.

>Why is this girl hit...Patchy at same time? Because Patchy is best girl and Marisa has best tastes.
>>806 >from her fellow junk shop owning boyfriend Wasn't Rinnosuke just a humble youkai store owner who's just knowledgeable about the outside stuff? Marisa was just some regular that likes to sell him random shit that she found while 'travelling' or buy random magician junk that she needs for some reason.
>>838 "Store owner" is a bit of an exaggeration, given that he's actually pretty reluctant to part from his inventory and barely gets any customers (Reimu and Marisa taking things without paying for them doesn't count) anyway. I think describing him as a 'collector' or 'antiquarian' would be more fitting.
>>838 Well, yeah, I'm not saying he's some top level magician himself or anything, but he seems to have an awful lot of magical stuff circling around him in addition to all the outside world junk. He probably didn't personally create hakkero, but he's been shown performing maintenance on it and even adding new features, which means he has a vast set of skills in handling OP magical artifacts (greater than that of Marisa, since she came to him for this maintenance in the first place), which was my whole point that being close friends with such an artifact otaku is likely a significant part of the perfect storm that is an Ordinary Human Magician. >>839 Yeah, that's right. He's kinda like one of those retro games enthusiast turned specialty shop owner types. Mostly provides services like chipping and general console repair, sells some shit tier NES cartridges, but also has a treasured and expansive personal collection, which is untouchable unless you're willing to barter in something equally as rare and valuable. Imagine if Yukari took him outside and introduced him to the world of actual retro *ware collectors.
>>841 Does that answer the question that Marisa is a gypsy all but in name? Sure, she's not a youkai but she spends more time outside than in her shack deep in the woods.
>>928 You realize most people on the planet that aren't Kaguya spend more time outside their house than in it?
>>930 >You realize most people on the planet that aren't Kaguya spend more time outside their house than in it? WRONG! the Koumakan crew basically sat in their dusty mansion for hundreds of years until EoSD happened. Same goes with the Moriya Charity Foundation.

>>939 Uh, no. Remilia & co. originally hail from an unspecified location in Europe, from where they slowly traveled east along with their mansion before settling in Gensokyo no later than 1998, yet not earlier than 1885. Either way, the fact that they picked up a dragon on their trip through China is a proof that they actively interacted with locals during their travels.
>>939 At MS Sanae is a certified diligent schoolgirl, and Suwako was ruling over her own small kingdom both before and after Kanako defeated her, absorbing it into Yamato and becoming it's new goddess even if in name only. Even after deciding that modern humans suck and running off to Gensokyo they keep trying to market themselves in every way they can, putting on public science fair grade performances and such.
>>940 Considering the Devil's contract was specifically set up because Remilia made a huge mess during her introduction party, her traveling days wouldn't even be necessary. >>941 Producing a functioning cold fusion reactor goes slightly above science fair grade performances. Although I still don't get why Kanako would re-design herself as a goddess of technology/scientific progress when that exact stuff is the main reason behind the gods losing power in the outside world.
>>943 > Although I still don't get why Kanako would re-design herself as a goddess of technology/scientific progress when that exact stuff is the main reason behind the gods losing power in the outside world. She relies on youkai and gods for her operations.Making that her fields means she directly benefits from advertising the products of science as being the result of her own divine intervention. Its the miracles of science and humans don't have to understand shit.
>>943 I guess that in the outside world science cucked her out of the spotlight so hard that she now assumes it's by default going to popular among humans. The same way that every western cartoon nowadays seems to copy chibi anime without any rhyme or reason. Or maybe she's trying to claim it for her own so that she can't get overshadowed by it anymore. The same way that every western cartoon nowadays claims how it's basically anime while completely missing the point.
>>944 Unless she pulled something like the AdMech from 40k ("the light bulb goes on because I recite an incantation"), I doubt that would work. The humans would get behind the underlying principles sooner than later. >>945 Good point. Question is whether being hailed as the inventor/bringer of aforementioned light bulb produces enough faith to secure her continued existence. But I suppose every kid knows about Edison, and Edison wasn't even the original man behind the damn thing.

>>947 >Unless she pulled something like the AdMech from 40k ("the light bulb goes on because I recite an incantation"), I doubt that would work. Study of outside goods and documentation ought to be a problem, a rigged cargo cult sounds like a solution. Choke the science with mystique, swap "Machine Spirit" with "Kami", you can explain that the minor god of the local electrical transformer shrine got angry when the human techie skipped on the kappa designed weekly maintenance ritual and set itself on fire. Have enough folks praying to it regularly and next thing you know you have generator-chan as a lightning themed stage 2 boss. >The humans would get behind the underlying principles sooner than later. The scientific method and subatomic particles theory won't just pop up in most peoples' mind. And there's youkai around to get rid of outliers. The fear of getting deleted for digging too deep should make the occasional scholar a nice treat to predators.
>>951 >The scientific method and subatomic particles theory won't just pop up in most peoples' mind. And there's youkai around to get rid of outliers. The fear of getting deleted for digging too deep should make the occasional scholar a nice treat to predators. I'll go with this theory since human villagers would readily accept the 'science=faith to a god' train of logic since a particular youkai exhibits said scientific principles, thus making the cause even stronger with a living, breathing proof.

Gee Marisa, how could you have 2 waifu?

>>1170 By being the only, somewhat regular visitor either of them have? In comes the big joke when it turns out Marisa actually is perfectly straight and wants to be Rinnosuke's imouto In comes the second joke when Rinnosuke is differently orientated and doesn't care for girls on a romantic level
>>1172 I think Rinnosuke would be terrible husband for how absent-minded he could be when it's not about a random junk he's interested in. >>1170 >implying Patche would make the first move The fat NEET would rather sit in her library and fantasize about it.
>>1193 Every second Patche wastes on fantasizing about interpersonal relationships is a second not spent on inventing new ingenious ways of crystallizing her piss into philosopher stones.
>>1194 What would she need that for? I doubt Patchouli has any undue interest in turning things into gold, and being a born magician, (biological) immortality is already in her hand.

>>1197 But ammonia in the last batch turned out 0.00045% purer after switching to the new hot-drying technique!
>>1198 Why does patchy looked like shit
>>1207 Prolonged Royal Flare exposure.
>>806 >Also, touhou magic seems to require less of a natural affinity and more of an autistic dedication over a lifetime of study Anyone remembers that doujinsi where reimu went on to slaughter everyone at SDM during full moon, while marisa struggled to get past meiling? >>802 >Why is this girl hit on Alice and Patchy at same time? It's a passive ability of harem masters, she has no control over it.
>>1227 >Marisa is not even Lesbian, but her sheer presence causes all girls in her proximity to become thirsty There has to be at least one comedy doujin about this.
(697.50 KB 709x1578 ClipboardImage.png)

>>1231 Basically Bomber Grape's Marisa for the whole 4.5 pages she didn't serve as a straight man to Reimu's bullshit. Don't think I've seen a whole doujin like that, though.
