Ninja hattori, chibi maruko, shinchan, etc were all shows that were extremely popular in japan. They are obscure in the english speaking world(which is mostly just americans) because they never aired there. And since 4chan /a/ is mostly americans you will think these are some super rare stuff. So maybe our tv channels just brought over shows that were cheaper to license(due to their age) and their popularity in japan.
