Understanding full well the seminal achievement that the film that they were shooting was going to be, Mr. Gillen instructed Tom Hardy to actually punch him for the sake of making his own reaction as realistic as possible. Of course, the next morning when the shot of CIA falling was filmed, Mr. Gillen's nose had swollen from the blow that it had sustained the night prior.
