Update 02: Please make all Christmas music requests/submissions to Jazzanon directly on /animu/ : https://prolikewoah.com/animu/res/85538.html#99530 ---
/animu/ jazzanon reporting in. I guess I will stream jazz from 22 to 25 of dic.
>>2986 Hi Jazzanon, thanks for stopping by! >I guess I will stream jazz from 22 to 25 of dic. I'm presuming that's 'dec' ? So looking at the calender, it looks to me that the weekends of 16th-17th (the main webring event), and then ofc the Christmas weekend itself 23rd-24th would be the primary times to stream? Even on Christmas day itself Monday, December 25th of course. Then New Year weekend one short week later. Also, not sure what timezones you want to follow (for now I'm presuming UTC). That's a lot! Is there something that I myself can do to help you during these periods? TIA.
Please dump Christmas moosic files you like here, Anons: https://prolikewoah.com/animu/res/85538.html#99530
>>2984 These are really comfy OP pics, thanks! :)
>>2987 >for now I'm presuming UTC yeah, starting at 3 pm PST / 22 UTC >Is there something that I myself can do to help you during these periods? Nah, it is pretty simple to just stream, will announce it in the jazz thread here when the time comes.

One of the regulars from /vhs/ here to report that a Christmas stream across the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th is planned featuring both Christmas shorts and movies. More info to follow as it becomes available.
>>2984 OK, let's make a list of boards that are at least a little active on the webring over the past few days. Also, if you know of any other boards to invite for the 22nd to 25th event, please add them ITT anons. Also, pls don't forget to submit Christmas'y music! >>2988
>>2993 Nice, this will be a comfy christmas.
/retro/-fag here. What Christmassy things from the past could be streamed? Muppet Christmas Carol?
>>2996 >Muppet Family Christmas is too old for /retro/ as it is 80s Man I feel a little bit older now.
>>2997 But does it even matter? Maybe nobody would mind.
>>2998 Probably not. And can probably sandwich between other television Christmas specials.
>>2996 I vote : * Rankin & Bass' 'Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer' * 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' * Chuck Jone's OG 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' These play on the networks every year, and probably aren't too hard to find, /retro/ ?
>>2996 In Australia they used to show the magic pudding. around Christmas time.
>>3004 >the magic pudding Is that this version, Anon? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfluaMlguvY
>>2996 I have a soft spot for Ernest Saves Christmas.
>>3005 Looks like it
>>3002 All of those would be worth tuning in to watch in my opinion.
>>3008 Agreed.

I plan to start at midnight UTC between the 21st and 22nd of December. That is: 7pm Thu 21st EST 4pm Thu 21st PST 1am Fri 22nd CET 11am Fri 22nd AEDT Hope to see some people there for some fun.

We will be hosting a Christmas TV night this Wednesday, December 20 at 7:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM GMT. I am still in need of three TV Christmas specials, so if you have any ideas please share them. https://cytu.be/r/zzztv
>>3025 >I am still in need of three TV Christmas specials, so if you have any ideas please share them. >>3002
>>3026 Already going to do the latter two, I'll probably throw in Rudolph and Frosty as well.
>>3023 Here's another event for the n/a/be. Euronabe, at the same link, will be having its Christm/a/s special starting 12 PM CT / 6 PM CET on the 23rd. The tentative lineup is: >Tokyo Marble Chocolate >The Big O Episode 11 >Itsudatte My Santa >War in the Pocket >Di Gi Charat Christmas Special >Bartender Episode 10 >Gundam Wing Endless Waltz >Santa Company >Azumanga Daioh Episode 17 >Amagami SS First Arc >Winter Garden >Lucky Star Episode 11 >K-ON Episode 7 >Ichigatsu ni wa Christmas >Tokyo Godfathers I apologize if the intermissions aren't European despite the name. I, the host, am a Burger and won't be able to attend most of it due to family responsibilities. You can expect someone else to add the 11th and 12th episodes of Emiya somewhere in there.
So, it's Tuesday and the primary event begins this Friday. I guess we should spread out now and invite other boards to participate. Any good advice/suggestions, Anons?
>>3040 >Any good advice/suggestions, Anons? Invite /sp/
>>3041 OK, will do.
>>3040 I have contacted /yuri/ because last time they streamed a bunch of war movies as seen on their embassy thead >>21
>>3048 Great, thanks Anon! Please reach out to any other boards you'd care to. Cheers. :)
What about streaming * Die Hard * Home Alone as Christmas movie ideas?

>>3499 Eh, Christmas still has the 12 days going til Fri, Jan 5, 2024, and Orthodox celebrate Christmas Sun, Jan 7, 2024. But the /christmas/ event seems more or less over for the year.

>>3507 >But the /christmas/ event seems more or less over for the year. Please pardon the impertinence anons, but /christmas/ is now a Christmas and New Years Festival! THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED :DD Regardless, we were already intending to keep /christmas/ 'open for business' until the Orthodox Christmas went by anyway. Can't forget our Orthobros!! >>3508 This. Any other boards are free to contribute additional New Years -celebrating streams, and they will be added into the OP ITT as well. >>3509 /christmas/ is always fun though! Wasn't too hard either since the previous BOs established such good relations with the Internets beforehand. I would like to see it grow in size though; I think the key here will be getting the word out a bit earlier, and with more volunteers. As the old adage goes: >"All of us is better than any of us!" :) Here's to even more fun & blessings next year!
>>3510 >Regardless, we were already intending to keep /christmas/ 'open for business' until the Orthodox Christmas went by anyway. Can't forget our Orthobros!! The Twelve Days of Christmas needs to come back like in the old days.
>>3031 Here's the schedule for the nabe/Euronabe New Year Special: >Kyousougiga 2011 and 2012 >Gundam Thunderbolt Movies >Tetsuwan Birdy >Akira >Shounan Junai Gumi >Castle of Caligostro >Pichu to Pikachu >K-ON Movie Sometime during this will be the last episode of cooking with Emiya, and sometime at the end will be an eight episode marathon of the end of Shichinin no Nana as the first and last of the episodes in this marathon are are about the New Year.
>>3518 >The Twelve Days of Christmas needs to come back like in the old days. That seems like a goodly tradition Anon. If you wouldn't mind, can you link us all to some info on that which you consider canonical to the Christmas holidays of yore, please? I'm a bit rusty on the topic tbh. :P >>3524 Thanks for the info /a/ ! OP listing updated.
(103.41 KB 456x685 1412884908517.jpg)

>>3528 I just meant in the sense of an extended Christmas. I don't like the way Christmas is considered over as soon as Christmas Day ends. It feels like everything just ends abruptly after people get their presents, as opposed to that aspect of the holiday marking the beginning of Christmas. I blame modern commercialism for cynically treating Christmas as nothing more than a marketing period. In the past, Christmas tended to either have religious significance or as an excuse to have good times with family and friends. I've heard that in Shakespeare's day, it was largely an occasion for revelry. Drinking in excess almost seems wholesome compared to turning the holiday into a ploy to sell Turbo Man action figures. I'm not that knowledgeable about any of this, but people in Western countries used to partake in festivities as late as January 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_Night_(holiday) According to this article, the lower classes used to extend the period even more: https://www.shakespeare-online.com/biography/shkchristmas.html I think the pagan Yule is also thought to have been celebrated in January, but I'm not so sure.
(397.16 KB 372x480 1702491915439014.png)

>>3530 Thanks for the insights, Anon. Can you think of any concrete suggestions for /christmas/ to follow through on this idea? I too don't think of Christmas as a single 'event', but rather a season (apparently just as in ye olde days of yore). It's a very deeply Christian religious holiday, obviously; one only surpassed by Easter. >The pagan Varg as Santa Lol. Some would claim that's apropos, but I think it's misguided to accuse modern Christmas' roots as being purely pagan. Clearly it's resoundingly Christian now, and has been so for many generations. Merry Christmas Cheers to you Anon. I hope we can figure this new idea out well, and implement it successfully here on /christmas/! :)
>>3531 >Thanks for the insights, Anon. Can you think of any concrete suggestions for /christmas/ to follow through with this? No. I wish I had some ideas. >Lol. Some would claim that's apropos, but I think it's misguided to accuse modern Christmas' roots as being pagan. (see above) I don't think it could be considered the same thing as Yule or Saturnalia or anything. There are definitely pagan elements to it, but a lot of the things people think are pagan actually aren't (like Christmas trees). It was founded on a Christian basis, but there was carryover from pre-Christian times. Either way, a lot of people also historically didn't necessarily seem to care about the religious aspect as much (which reminds me of how oftentimes medieval peasants are thought to have gone on pilgrimages more as an excuse to travel than for purely religious motives). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z0cLSpx5Mk
>>3535 OK, thanks for the inputs Anon. If I'm able to I'll plan to study this from rigorous sources, and reflect on what if anything we might do here on /christmas/ to celebrate the 12 days tradition in accord with traditional Christianity. Cheers.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, /CHRISTMAS/ ! DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE JUST MEMES THIS YEAR, ANONS!

Well, shit. Since anoncafe is shutting down where are we hosting the event the following year?
Well, at least we made it through 2023 Christmas carrying on the good cheer, and there'll be the better part of a year to see where the chips land. Just hoping the boards on other sites I still use are around, and get the invite again.
What's going to happen to /christmas/ now that anon.cafe is shutting down?
