Encroached Realms: DEV/WIP thread. [NSFW] Adventurer 04/16/2025 (Wed) 18:51:35 No. 1978
4chan is down and I want to talk about it so. For the past half a year or so, this is the CYOA I'm working on. It is originally a knock-off of Tentacle Realm, but at this point it's basically just the TR format (pic related) and then lots of concepts from other CYOAs or more original ideas blended together. There's a dev log at https://cruxador.neocities.org/devlog which includes an outline of progress and ETA. Currently working on classes. I have 27 and with 8-12 skills each my estimate is this section will be 14 pages, making it about two thirds the size of everything else I've done so far. It's mostly written though, so it'll only be like a week for this bit.
>>1978 Hey there Crux, found your way here too, huh? I think I already gave you class suggestions ages ago so there's not much for me to add.
>>1979 Yeah, at this point what I need to do is a ton of converting my text notes into actual CYOA images, so not really something I can use help on. The biggest thing is finding images, which I've decided I'm going to do an initial WIP version where although every class will have an image, not every skill will, and then I can let people who are interested help with images there as I fill them in for later. I'm posting here more just to share it at this point, both because other people may be interested and because it helps me formulate my thoughts sometimes. I may request help/feedback later but I don't expect to need it for weeks. I'll answer questions about it for anyone curious though.
Shit, hey Crux. Sorry I didn't come here earlier. Couldn't figure out how.
I wrote some of this class stuff long enough ago that I can get excited about it as if it wasn't my own writing, now. I got through the bread and butter martial classes, which are a bit boring but I don't really know how to fix that besides ramping up the power level. Now I'm doing my favorite classes, which are the weird ones like Analyst, Voyeur, and Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver might be my favorite of all, it has a diverse array of useful abilities all of which are quite unconventional. >>1989 Why apologize? You owe me no debt, and we are all scattered to the winds in any case. There were never many of us, but for all I know there are more elsewhere that we haven't found yet. Though I suspect most are content to let the thread sleep until 4chan comes back. I'm just too psyched about what I'm working on.
>>2000 The best template for martial classes is something like Anima: Beyond Fantasy, The Book of Nine Swords (DnD), or Path of War (Pathfinder.) Basically, anime martials instead of mundane ones.
>>2000 Nice trips. >>2001 >Anima: Beyond Fantasy I'll check this out.
>>2001 > The Book of Nine Swords (DnD), or Path of War (Pathfinder.) I'm familiar with these two, I played a fair amount with Path of War. When thinking about the concepts of characters I made with it, the important parts are also in other classes I've done though. And ultimately, it's something that gets really into the nitty gritty of mechanics (and then is kind of bad at it; for damage dealing you pretty much always want primal fury for example) rather than having big ideas. Then again, the martial disciplines themselves do have big ideas, which I could use to come up with some classes. Cursed Razor in particular is a cool premise. >Anima: Beyond Fantasy I'm not familiar with it. Where does one acquire game books that fell off the back of a truck these days? I haven't been in the market for a while. It looks like it's largely ki-based though, and I do have plenty of stuff for qi-using classes, it's the pure stamina-using classes I have in mind when talking about martial classes.
>>2009 No idea, I got mine before all the cryptography autism.
>>1978 Glad you found a way to keep working, Cruxador! My first thoughts are that the first page is still a bit too close to Tentacle Realm's. Are you sure you want to hew that closely to the original? The teaser gallery (available through the devlog) looks far more promising. Good luck!
>>2056 I'm sticking close to the original with regards to the overall framework because it's robust and easy to develop very large amounts of content for. When it comes to the different sections, some parts are more loosely based on it and some parts are not based on it. I started out pretty heavily derivative and have deviated more over time. The only part more similar than the intro is the mutation section, which I plan to rework (and I'll definitely change the intro too, but I'm not sure if it will be a substantial rework or only little adjustments). In many ways this is actually a rework of Swords and Sorcery and Smut. It's also a fantasy CYOA with points and corruption, and stats that go up very high, and the classes and skills section (which I'm doing now, and which is equivalent to powers in TR) is structured very similarly. Each class gets more skills and there are no longer crown skills, and you buy classes for points (so they don't need to be symmetrical) rather than one free and a multiclass option, but otherwise it's pretty much identical. I'll try and remember to post an example from the pages I've completed when I get home today.

Picked this page because I like Dreamweaver. Current class list is: Knight (combat powers, mostly from TR) Barbarian (combat powers mostly from TR) Spirit Champion (Spirit powers mostly from TR) Ninja (Mobility powers mostly from TR) Thief (Stealth powers mostly from TR) Monk Imperator (leadership and logistics powers, especially war related, some from TR) Analyst (System/UI and information management) Voyeur (a little weak tbh) Dreamweaver (one of the best so far maybe) Mindshaper (more direct mind control than dreamweaver) Healslut Gooner (edge-based tank) Eromage (assorted sex and body alteration magic) Druid (nature powers) Evoker (combat magic) Arcanist (nerd magic, enchanting, probably would be reddit's favorite class) Cultivator (boost your qi max and qi powers) Architect (logistics and building stuff) Smith (Make OP items) Specter (Danny Phantom) Self-Priest (like a normal priest but God is your stand – a summoner, after a fashion) Illusionist (illusions) Void Scion (Spatial and emptiness magic, relates to corruption and encroachment) Fleshcrafter (costs divinity (cheat points), lets you craft living things including yourself) Lawyer (Argue with the wyrd of the world to spin fate) Maybe classes: Totemist (just houses some skills for beast people, probably getting merged with Druid) Duelist (generic martial) Crusader (Uses the will of the world to boost combat, like a mix of Lawyer and Gooner) Cardcaptor (summoner of large numbers as opposed to summoner of a single powerful entity like the Self-Priest; too small so probably just going to be a short chain of general skills)
[Expand Post]Bishop, Night Witch, Thunder Warrior, Necromancer, Blood Cultist, Sidereal (specialized on specific esoteric elements) Whizzard (use pee as a resource). I've also attached the inner world cheat, which I spoiled on 4chan not long before it went down, but hadn't gotten around to putting on the teaser archive
>>2064 >Cardcaptor Sakura? Speaking of, I'm surprised there's no magical girl inspired class, my only choices for magic are druid, arcanist (I assume wizard-like,) and sex magic. Where's my girly glitter hope beams?
>>2065 Cardcaptor class is named for Sakura but as much so inspired by things like Yu-Gi-Oh, and in particular one of the M:tG novels from like 15-20 years ago where they mentioned the mechanics of getting summoning rights a little more explicitly. A magical girl is as much aesthetic and context as it is ability. Neither of those are in the classes section. The transformation power could be a general skill (not in a class) but then again, having to appear normal and mundane all the time except when transforming could be a curse. When it comes to shooting beams, that's an Evoker. A typical magical girl would probably have both the Evoker and Spirit Champion classes. Hope as an element isn't one I've written up but the system is open so you can canon sartre an element if you want. Hope would probably have a lot of similarities to Holy and Thunder.
>>2064 What is TR?
>>2069 Tentacle Realm cyoa I assume
>>2068 >Cardcaptor class is named for Sakura but as much so inspired by things like Yu-Gi-Oh, and in particular one of the M:tG novels from like 15-20 years ago where they mentioned the mechanics of getting summoning rights a little more explicitly. I'm gonna guess a mix of "Pokemon" and "Chaotix" for the mechanism. Where the cardcaptor has to go out and make some sort of magical copy of monsters/items/locations, which they can then use to cast spells. Good luck!
>>2064 >Fleshcrafter (costs divinity (cheat points), lets you craft living things including yourself) Does that (or any other) class have any particular interactions/synergies with the mutations section thing?
>>2073 Yep >>2083 I'm not familiar with Chaotix but that description is correct. I didn't make the page yet but I can post the text. >>2087 Yeah, it lets you transplant mutations from one person to another. There are limitations but still, that's why it has to cost divinity. If I nerfed that stuff away it would basically just be a glorified surgeon, which I don't think really captures what people would want for it.
>>2091 Chaotix (or just "Chaotic") was a three season collectible card game show that blended elements of Pokemon, Yugioh, and Digimon season three (the one with the Tamers).Players collected rare cards, and then dueled in giant VR domes. The twist was that the show was also an isekai series. To get new cards, the players had to enter the world of the game, and get photos of monsters/items/locations, which would be converted into cards when they went home. So if you wanted to add a three headed fire breathing dragon to your deck, you'd have to find one, track it down, and convince it to pose for a photo.
>>1978 Seems like the type of cyoa that would be better off sfw.
>>2101 Depends on how closely the cyoa sticks to Tentacle Realm. As designed by Apotheosis, the Tentacle Realm is a very, very NSFW fantasy setting with living clothing and a global ecosystem sustained by tentacle sex. Cruxador has said that he wants his own take on it, so that's not guaranteed. Still, the potential to turn it into a crazy hentai world is definitely there.
>>1978 How many points are we gonna have?
>>1978 >Female is optimal The things I do for power...
>>2099 That sounds like it would be a cool indie game. A combination of Pokémon Snap type photo segments and a deck builder. >>2101 It's meant to be kitchen sink, so removing a category of option wouldn't make it better. But a lot of it could be SFW I suppose >>2103 It's definitely less crazy hentai. It's much more of a general fantasy world that just happens to have a lot of crazily sexual things going on. >>2112 Most points come from drawbacks or corruption. It's too soon to say for sure, but TR saw most builds ranging from about 1000-1500 I think. So far this looks like points will work out similarly with a couple exceptions. You post less for races, but you may not be able to diversify quite as much on classes and powers. You still might dip like half a dozen though >>2113 Depends on your build. While powers that scale on Soul can be quite potent, that also means they tend to be expensive, and they're usually pretty indirect in application.

>>1978 Thunder is the sound.
>>2116 Calling it Thunder sounds more poetic, so it allows me to combine lightning with the more physical aspects of that element. The electricity is more incidental, the real theme is the bombastic force and sound of a lightning strike, which you can then channel into glorious melee.
I updated my devlog with current progress but won't be doing any CYOA work for a week due to job/travel reasons. I'll also keep checking this thread despite 4chan being back. I liked it when CYOAs all got their own threads on /tg/ before the idea of general threads took off, and this reminds me of that. Also, the wifi in the hotel I'm staying in this weekend is perma-banned for cp so I can't post right now anyway. >>2101 Update on this, it is now no longer even loli-free, as I gave up on finding exclusively hag images. Redditors will just have to pretend they don't notice it, I guess.
>>2160 >. I liked it when CYOAs all got their own threads on /tg/ before the idea of general threads took off I remember, lot more spontaneous discussion back then, but less sustained 'culture' really.
>>2161 I dunno, it was also pretty early in the development of the art. Hard to say whether the "culture" was the chicken or the egg.
Classes are done. Full list: https://cruxador.neocities.org/devlog Progress will likely be slow over the summer due to work
