I actually really like certain isekai. SAO is compelling sci-fi once it gets its feet off the ground. Mushoku Tensei is just incredibly good writing in general. Re:zero is fun and is a decent examination of the stereotypical isekai protagonist and what it would mean to actually be one. Shield Hero was fun until it wasn't. There are also outliers like, "The Other World Doesn't Stand A Chance Against The Power Of Instant Death." which sounds fucking retarded, adheres to all the most stupid isekai tropes, and then goes "Yeah but no, really. REALLY." and follows through with that so well that it loops away from awful to excellent. There's nothing like an interdimensional cosmic being that devours universes looking from the outside of the universe, in - dying because of the MC's ability. It is an isekai that I cannot recommend enough alongside MT.
In general, I would prefer if they were just normal fantasy / sci-fi shows without the isekai elements however. Think .hack// or Freiren. There is a lot of slop. Take the one where the dude gets labeled a failure for having E rank skills of... impossible-to-resist paralysis, berserk, sleep, and poison. Yeah. Totally a failure. Or Aifureta or whatever its called. Hilariously enough, Redo of Healer isn't actually an isekai despite what people say, although its still soulless slop. I can't stand isekai that rely on game mechanics / RPG elements / etc that are built-in to the fantasy world. When there easily could be a diagetic way to approach it without just like... literal status screens. I think the current age of isekai deconstruction and wild reimaging is just what happens when isekai that couldn't match what SAO / MT did - failed stupendously, so authors and mangakas are attempting to differentiate themselves from slop, while still somehow making soulless slop. I honestly think I would blow my fucking brains out if I was the person writing "The Small Sage Will Try Her Best in the New World from Level 1!"
On your last note, I think isekai is fucking terrible for RP because the insinuation with the term is that you or your partner is being dragged into another world. The sheer amount of setup that would involve is immense, and almost entirely tangential. Its easier, more efficient, and fun to just be in the fantasy world. No one who RPs with Roxy is someone from outside the world. They're a denizen that lives in it, or otherwise we default to [generic fantasy land bullshittery].If I play with another canon, its generally easier to just put Roxy in that canon, stuff like that. Canon adherence isn't exactly all that strict when Roxy doesn't have a fucking cock tbqh.
