Thread for anything GRRM, GOT/ASOIAF. Doesn't have to be Elden Ring related. >Lore/Mythology >Characters/Creatures/Races >Themes/Storytelling >Systems of Magic, Politics, etc. I can't really add much to this thread since I've never read any of his books or seen GOT past s1, but I wanted to have one for those who have and wanted to discuss. All I have are some links and articles: Fevre Dream >Miyazaki's favorite Martin novel is Fevre Dream. Set during the antebellum period of the American South, the novel is about steamboat captains on the Mississippi River and vampires. In fact, Mizayaki loves Fevre Dream so much, he cites it as the main reason he wanted to work with Martin on Elden Ring. https://screenrant.com/elden-ring-miyazaki-favorite-george-rr-martin-book/ I've also read somewhere that Miyazaki gave a copy to all his employees to draw inspiration from. Book: https://archive.org/details/fevredream00mart Review: http://blogs.seacoastonline.com/seacoast-nh-books/2012/09/12/fevre-dream-by-george-r-r-martin/ Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fevre_Dream What reddit has to say about it in relation to Elden Ring: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/lkvqy1/so_i_read_george_r_r_martins_fevre_dream/ A Song of Ice and Fire Books: https://archive.org/details/ASongOfIceAndFire5bookspdf Game of Thrones and Norse Mythology: https://sonsofvikings.com/blogs/news/game-of-thrones-and-norse-mythology I'll probably add to this because I know these aren't the most comprehensive resources. Share anything interesting you have!
>>97 >GRRM >best known for a edgy take on the standard medieval fantasy setting >Miyazaki loves him for his obscure antebellum vampire novel >this convinces him to hire GRRM to write the lore for his upcoming epic dark fantasy game based on Celtic and Norse mythology It feels like I'm missing something here. And will we ever find out what Gwyn's tax policy was?

>>102 It does make me wonder. pic related is from the book review, it makes me think there'll be some sort of sympathy toward the vampire race in ER, if there is one. It's interesting that the book represents vampires, or "nosfuratu" as both vampires and werewolves. What do you think the nosfuratu would look like in elden ring?
>>104 That's actually a really interesting concept for vampires. It sort of reminds me of the Wolfen's take on werewolves.
>>102 Celtic and Norse mythology don't seem like they'd mix, I wonder how the game will do it?
>>206 >Celtic and Norse mythology don't seem like they'd mix Why do you say that? Especially considering that Celtic and Norse cultures themselves literally mixed, or more accurately were layered on top of each other, in ancient Britain.

>>207 >>206 The mythologies are very different, but there are definitely common themes. I'm almost done with the summary of Celtic mythology in thread >>3 I'll do Norse mythology right after. Forgive me for taking so long with that, I've been busy with schoolwork. One thing that always activates my almonds are the similar styles in symbolism between the two.
