It kind of bugs me how disconnected The Defiler as a fight feels from
Isolde as a character. We already know
Isolde doesn't really buy into the whole Exaltist cult, mostly just using it as a tool to her own ends . But the instant the fight starts and she's all fire and brimstone
THE SACRED PATH MUST NOT BE PROFANED like she's gone full nutty cultist.
I also have some issues with the fact that The Defiler is so heavily nautically coded, like the rest of the Lemnian Hollow, but...Why?
Why is the Defiler so heavyhanded with its fish/ocean imagery like the Lemnian Hollow (most of the growths in the hollow look like coral/seaweed)? What was the point of the thematic thoroughline if it's never actually going to lead anywhere? Isolde doesn't have any particularly strong ties to the sea. She's not a sailor, she's a soldier.
It's just...There. I guess
maybe because she drew all of the ether for her transformation from the ocean-coded Lemnian hollow specifically, it influenced the form she took, but that may be me putting more thought into it than the writers did.
The Defiler is a neat boss, but it being
Super-Isolde does nothing but make it worse from a purely narrative standpoint.
Also, why did her cup size and hips grow so huge? Ether is stored in the tits and ass, I guess.
