She got creator-sama's stamp of approval without even asking for it, and her entire body was becoming corrupted by it, including her brain. As much as she fought against it, she was losing her grip on sanity and finally cracked. If Magus had killed Lorenz it may have brought her back to sanity long enough to be stopped before progressing things further, but that didn't happen and couldn't happen because Magus is still sane, despite everything that's happened to her.
I agree with
>>1038068 that the pacing in 2.2 was a rushed mess. They seemed to imply that the military operation against the Exaltists took weeks or months but never outright gave a timeline. It feels like big chunks of story were left on the cutting room floor. They said that they wanted the entire Season 2 story to be spread across the season vs episodic, but 2.2 did not feel like a result of that decision.
I'm not very happy that they killed her off either, mainly because I wanted to roll a hag who uses saber and pistol like a certain electropork, and we're headed into 2 or 3 patches of characters I couldn't give a single solitary fuck about besides Zhao, but the way they did it wasn't too awful. She was forced into a deal with the devil, used it to accomplish her goals, and then the situation spiraled out of control, as she herself said in that letter.

Yeah, like they had to awkwardly cram Flora into the story even though she didn't play any real role, and did it so poorly that it may have been counterproductive. And I think they actually forgot about Harin until the last second.
